For the most part, this song is still unmatched. There were many electropop bands after Depeche Mode and Alphaville. Almost all of them couldn't hold a candle to them. This is mainly due to Marian Gold's incredible voice and range. But the production here is also absolutely at a high-end level in terms of sound.

Camaflouge was a German 80s synth pop band. Voices and Images is a great band. They sound kind of like Depeche Mode.

@markusantonio4866 Yes, of course I know and I also like very much. But vocally, they can't quite keep up with the big ones.

Always loved this album opener as well as its follower 'Summer in Berlin".Both Dramatic and atmospheric.Unfortunately the album missed 'Seeds".A burried diamond that only managed the b' side to the 'Big in Japan" single.

I am a huge Alphaville fan. And yes the group went through many changes member-wise throughout the years, you were listening to the group at their earliest when it was Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd, and Frank Merten. Some other interesting tidbits - none of them were formally musically trained when they composed this first album. I remember them saying that everything is basically crafted from trial and error on synths and drum machines! For a group of people who weren't even musically trained to be able to create such a perfect synth tune, that's just astounding to me... Their second album is even better, 'Afternoon in Utopia' is still imho their best effort. By then Frank Merten has left, and Ricky Echolette joined, later on Ricky would leave the group too and Alphaville remained a duo in the studio, and then Marian Gold would tour with a live band that he formed. And that brings us up to today when Alphaville is basically a live band with the original singer still intact (and the live band having also gone through a bunch of changes due to unfortunate circumstances).

Alphaville is a trio of German origin. The end of the song reminds me of the chorus of the group Secret Service, flash in the night, in fact it could be a suggestion for you.

@@danguid2753 It was nothing. I don't know if you're French, but the group produced a song in the 80's that was quite "new-wave/synthpop" for a popular French female singer Jakie Quartz at the time : "Vivre Ailleurs/Live Elsewhere" in 1986 which was successful ( no.11 in the TOP 50, sold more than 300,000 copies), which Dereck made in May 2021 and he really appreciated it. There is even an English version "BB Remember Me" in 7" single and 12" Extended. I believe the music is slightly different from the French version.

Not my favorite Alphaville song but the very first time I heard Marian Gold's lower register. I couldn't believe this was the same guy who sang Forever Young and Big in Japan. Other songs that show off his impressive range are Romeos and Red Rose. A different side of Alphaville is the song For a Million Years, which is wonderfully atmospheric with a beautiful keyboard melody. I also recommend Locusts by A Ha if you want to hear that band in a different element.

For me Alphaville made the best melody of new wave. What a lyrical capacity and structure. It's a little baroc, but always very sensual. And do you hear the number of octaver of the voice? It's the same between beginning and the end. It's very impressiv because at these time he was young and goes up more! Now, no. He has a big voice and gone down all the tonalities. Time....

It's quite flat and boring for me. It looks a bit like Depeche Mode but "low-coast". Never heard or even seen the videoclip and neither released nor classified in France in our Top 50. The clip apparently exists, I didn't understand why it wasn't chosen. I prefer "Big In Japan" from 1984 (covered the same year by the German female singer Sandra but in German), I still can't understand why it wasn't made on your channel. A huge hit at the time and much better than this one!
