Hank Williams Sr. is buried in Montgomery Alabama. One of the founders of Country music. One of the greatest song writers in history. He died at 29.

The song makes several references to Hank Senior songs. Do you remember when he said the sound of a whippoorwill? He goes to the cemetery when he comes through town to visit Hank Senior‘s grave. The guy that he saw in the suit was supposed to be Hank Senior. Hank Senior was my daddy’s favorite singer. My daddy was old-school. He used to play one of his songs called “Hey. Hey Good Looking” While driving in his car. My younger sister would sit in the floorboard of his old Cadillac and listen to that song while my daddy drove. When my daddy died in August 2018, we had a list of songs that we played at his funeral and that was one of them.

Hank Jr. wasn’t even 4 years old when his dad died at 29. Alan Jackson also recorded a song that Jr. wrote called “Blues Man” that you really need to check out. It’s a beautiful love song but he writes about his and his dad’s tribulations in life before finding a true love that saved him. Gives me chills every time I hear it!! 😱🤗♥️

This song scared the crap out of me when I was little and still gives me chills today. The combination of Alan's storytelling and haunting voice make this song absolutely hair raising. I've also heard it's based on a semi true story that Alan had heard about seeing the ghost of Hank Sr.

listen to " I'm so Lonesome I could cry" by Hank Williams and this tribute song by alan Jackson will make a lot more sense. Hank was born near Georgiana Alabama but grew up and is buried in Montgomery. Every time that Alan Jackson does a show in Montgomery he visits Hanks grave after the concert. This song is WAY deeper than most folks realize.

I remember being little hearing this and getting hooked on him and Hank. There's a movie called "I saw the light" about Hank Williams Sr. He lived a rough life. And his death was mysterious because he was going to do a show and died in the back of a car as a man drove his body around. He was a drug and alcohol addict and in constant pain because of Spina bifida. He also did records under another name, Luke the drifter. I love all the songs I've heard but Move it on Over, hey good looking, I saw the light, and mind your own business (which is to the tune of move it on Over), and I'm so lonesome I could cry.

Hey man I've just discovered this, yeah hank Williams is the "drunk man in a cowboy hat" that took him by surprise. Hank was a very talented singer as well as a raging alcoholic. He put together a very impressive catalog of traditional country songs before dying at a young age due to his habits. I have every intention of looking to see if you ever took a look into him, but for now I just wanted to give you a thumbs up from a hardcore Alan Jackson fan. In my opinion, he has of the top five male country voices ever.

This song is a homage to Hank Williams Sr, considered the father of country music (you should definitely check out his songs). Think what Elvis was to Rock n Roll. The parts of this song that are directly in reference to Hank Sr : *He was from Montgomery, Alabama. *Nudie suits were extremely popular in the 40's & 50's in country and western music (named for Nudie Cohn, the tailor who created them) and Hank almost always performed in one. *"I was on my way to Mobile, for a big new years eve show" - Hank died in the back of a car in West Virginia on New Years eve 1952 (well, early morning hours of January 1st, 1953) on his way to Ohio to play a concert. He was only 29 years old - his driver thought he just fell asleep but he died of what has always believed to have been a combination of drug OD or alcohol poisoning, or both. *Many people, all unverified of course, report sightings of seeing the ghost of Hank Williams, everywhere from the Opry, to his hometown to his grave site. *"I'm so lonesome I could cry" was one of his biggest hits ever and can be argued one of the first mega hits of country music in its form that we know it. You guys should definitely check out that song, along with songs like "Your cheatin' heart", "Lost Highway" and "Cold, cold heart". There will never ever be another Hank Williams Sr. His story is incredibly interesting, his deamons and his legend status all while never seeing 30.

If you want to know country, you have to listen to Hank Williams, Sr. He had more influence on country music than any other singer in history. He was great singer and a phenomenal songwriter.. He had a. unique way with the English language. He was called the Hillbilly Shakespeare. Think about it. 70 years after his death, some of country music’s biggest stars are still doing tributes to him. That alone should tell you something about his stature.

The problem with people requesting these kind of songs that make a lot of references to other songs/artist is that they don't request the songs/artists that the song is referencing first. Then they expect the reactor to get the full impact of the song when they're not even aware of the references being made.

You might even want to pull up the lyrics. They are all there. Then go back and listen to this one over again. You will be amazed at how much more meaning you will find in the song. I guarantee it will be worth it.
