Adam, thank you for your reaction. Wasn't this a beautifully sung composition? The comment from Tom Bredesen quotes Nico Cartosio. We can only imagine Nico had heard Angelina's voice and knew in his heart that only she could sing the closing number to his otherwise instrumental album (Melting). Yes, you will have to listen to this again (and again, and again :). Nico adopted a poem from Robert Burns (1783), somewhat modernized the lyrics, got Angelina to come aboard, and then closed this beautiful melody with a magnificent violin solo. Angelina was masterful. She gave meaning to every word. Except for the chorus each line in the verse was sung differently. And, Adam, it becomes more and more evident that no one on our planet sings like her.

I am so happy that you reacted to “A song for A”. Your reaction was fun to watch and I agree the violin at the end was angelic. Angelina is such a gifted artist. I am sure that you can now see how many dimensions she has in her voice and styles. Angelina is STILL developing her voice and adapting her voice to original styles of the songs that she chooses. That way teaches her to fully understand the style and train her voice in those styles. Doing that is also traning her voice to capture many different sounds. Not just “sticking with what she wants to do in her style and what she is comfortable doing”. This all is what will make Angelina a far superior artist in the long run. For this song she was able to sing it beautifully along with the orchestra. It was as though her voice was an instrument in the orchestra , it was meshed so perfectly. She captured the music with her voice and the two together were magic. There is another original that you haven’t yet reacted to, it is “I’m still holding out for you” it is quite the opposite of this song but very emotional. It kind of leaves you silent for a second or 2 or 3 when it ends...I think that she was 11 when she recorded this. It really is worth it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYLKcqOqe5ynY7c As far as Bohemian Rhapsody and Yellow Brick Road, both are phenomenol.. both for different reasons. She just shows more of her talent with her music. Bohemian Rhapsody is some that she arranged. There are so many other songs that are right up there with them though.

👩🏻🎤🎵🌎⭐️🇳🇴❤️ Nico Cartosio composed this song specifically for Angelina to sing (hence the name, "Song For A"). The lyrics are from the 1783 poem "The Rigs O' Barley" by 18th century Scottish poet Robert Burns (1759-1796). Cartosio says, "Song for A is the only song on the album. It is performed by Angelina Jordan, a very young and very talented singer. I needed a bright final for my instrumental album. After the series of cold hells and Melting itself I longed for a song of a liberated soul, a soul that was set free from suffering. So, I remembered a beautiful poem by Robert Burns and wrote this song especially for Angelina. And she gave a sensual performance."

Based upon a Robbie Burns poem, I consider this piece in the genre of avant garde symphonic. When Nico assembled his compositions for the album he wanted no one but Angelina to sing it. There is historical speculation that Annie was a love interest of Burns' but there is no confirmation of that. So yes I continue to believe that 'A' is Angelina rather than Annie. One of the most beautiful things that Angelina has done to date I just knew that you would love it.

Nico Cartosio wrote this song for Angelina, hence the name Song for A. It is on his album Melting and is the only song with vocals. It is the final song on the album. It reminds me of a movie score. The album was released on the 17th of April 2019 which, depending on when Angelina recorded the song for the album would mean that she was between 12-13 years old. What a beautiful voice for someone that young. She truly is living up to her last name of Astar 🌟 Great reaction ❤️

Nico Cartosio has been a bit enigmatic regarding the meaning of the title. The A could also mean Annie, the girl from the poem. Great songwriters leave it to the listeners to interpret the song the way they want. 😊 So A can definitely mean Angelina too.

This is a new song for you. The music was written by Nico Cartosio specifically for Angelina's voice. You are correct that this is one that could go right into a movie soundtrack. It seems like all of her original stuff could right into a movie. And she is so versatile with her style that she could go in lots of different types of movies. This one would fit in a more classic movie, shield goes into a Bond film. I think a great example of her versatility, is the song she released after this one (also made for her vocals) "Above the Water"... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKHHeX2AhqaXb7s "A song for A" and "Above the Water" could not be more different, and yet they both sound exactly like Angelina. I'm also looking forward to you checking out some of the stuff Angelina has written herself. Her first one "What is Life" is probably my favorite, but they are all great..... “Tibetans believe: there are eight cold hells where souls of sinners will freeze forever after death, - tells Nico Cartosio. - But there are also eight cold hells here, on Earth. And we’re sent there by ourselves. Depression, arrogance, wrath, lack of love - all these things freeze our souls. But even from the bottom of the deepest and the coldest of hells do we hear the music of our hearts still hot”. The composer Nico Cartosio album “Melting” has 8 arrangements that takes the listener through many stages of the human soul from depression to coldness to destruction then hope and freedom. The music is very dark however the last track represent the hope, love, and freedom at the end. Nico Cartosio wanted a vocalist to present his last track and he chose Angelina to deliver it. It’s the only piece of music on the album that is accompanied by a vocalist. The lyrics are those of Robert Burns 1783 poem RIGS O’BARLEY. Some of the words were revised to modern English. The result is a masterpiece. Thank you for your reaction and keep up the good work.

This was an old Scottish or Irish poem, and Nico wrote the music for it and for Angelina to sing. I think she was 12 here, and it has been pointed out that this song let her just sing simply and purely without any nuances or “tricks.” I usually start weeping when I hear the violin at the end, especially the very end. Rigs is the old word, and she changed it to ridges to sing. I knew you would like this one!

Hey Adam, another great reaction. :) These lyrics are a Robbie Burns poem, and “ridges” is the modern translation or the old English (or Gaelic) influenced word “rigs”. That is, when the lyrics are referring to “rigs” they are referring to ridges. Thank you for this excellent reaction to Angelina's [performance of this beautiful song. It is based on a 1783 poem by the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Others have commented upon the fact that Angelina was asked to sing this by the composer/songwriter Nico Cartosio and Mattias Muer has very helpfully given the English version of the original. Just to complete the picture, I copy below the original words. Song-The Rigs O' Barley Tune-“Corn Rigs are bonie.” It was upon a Lammas night, When corn rigs are bonie, Beneath the moon's unclouded light, I held awa to Annie; The time flew by, wi' tentless heed, Till, 'tween the late and early, Wi' sma' persuasion she agreed To see me thro' the barley. Corn rigs, an' barley rigs, An' corn rigs are bonie: I'll ne'er forget that happy night, Amang the rigs wi' Annie. The sky was blue, the wind was still, The moon was shining clearly; I set her down, wi' right good will, Amang the rigs o' barley: I ken't her heart was a' my ain; I lov'd her most sincerely; I kiss'd her owre and owre again, Amang the rigs o' barley. Corn rigs, an' barley rigs, &c. I lock'd her in my fond embrace; Her heart was beating rarely: My blessings on that happy place, Amang the rigs o' barley! But by the moon and stars so bright, That shone that hour so clearly! She aye shall bless that happy night Amang the rigs o' barley. Corn rigs, an' barley rigs, &c. I hae been blythe wi' comrades dear; I hae been merry drinking; I hae been joyfu' gath'rin gear; I hae been happy thinking: But a' the pleasures e'er I saw, Tho' three times doubl'd fairly, That happy night was worth them a', Amang the rigs o' barley.

According to something I found in WiKi, for what that is worth, "The rigs referred to in the song were the traditional drainage system which was based on dividing fields into ridges around three feet high, and then plowing them from end to end, the resulting furrows then drained excess water from the land above it, here planted with corn." I kind of wish Angelina had left it that way but what a beautiful song is sung by a young girl with such a beautiful voice. I think she was 11 or 12 when she recorded this. If so, that is further amazing.

Yes my friend it is an old lowlands Scott’s term rigs of barley, which translates to ridges of Barley. So she is not singing it wrong it is just a language update. There are several other old Lowland Scott’s terms in this song Which are somewhat updated to more of how we speak today. It is an old Robert Burns poem about his personal love affair with Annie, forgot her last name just now, so it was a true life experience on that August 1 night that was a beautiful memory that haunted Robert Burns the rest of his life. Lammas is August 1. Music was Composed for this poem specifically for Angelina by Nico Cartosio.

The tune, 'Corn Rigs' was a popular choice among early song writers, notably Allan Ramsay who used it as one of "Peggy's" songs 'My Patie is a Lover Gay' in his play, The Gentle Shepherd (1725), the chorus of which was- "O, corn rigs, and rye rigs. And corn rigs are bonnie. And gin ye meet a bonnie lass, Prin up her cockemony." The 'Annie' referred to in the song by Robert Burns is believed to be a reference to Anne Rankine, the youngest daughter of John Rankine of Adamhill who married John Merry, the inn-keeper at New Cumnock, where Burns once stayed.»

There is an english translation of the scottish original. We find the "ridges" here. I guess that Cartosio wanted to use english lyrics instead of ancient scottish lyrics for some reason. "Corn Ridges Are Lovely Chorus Corn ridges, and barley ridges, And corn ridges are lovely: I will never forget that happy night, Among the rigdes with Annie. It was upon a Lammas night, When corn ridges are lovely, Beneath the moon's unclouded light, I held away to Annie; The time flew by, with careless heed; Till, between the dark and dawn, With small persuasion she agreed To see me through the barley. The sky was blue, the wind was still, The moon was shining clearly; I set her down, with right good will, Among the ridges of barley: I knew her heart was all my own; I loved her most sincerely; I kissed her over and over again, Among the ridges of barley. I locked her in my fond embrace; Her heart was beating rarely: My blessings on that happy place, Among the ridges of barley. But by the moon and stars so bright, That shone that hour so clearly! She ay shall bless that happy night Among the ridges of barley. I have been blythe with comrades dear; I have been merry drinking; I have been joyful gathering money; I have been happy thinking: But all the pleasures ever I saw, Though three times doubled fairly - That happy night was worth them all, Among the ridges of barley."

Rigs is the 17th century Scottish spelling in the poem by Rabbie Burns, that the lyrics of the song comes from, the modern spelling is Riggs but the pronunciation of it is the Scottish ridges, so Angelina got it 100% correct. She is very intelligent and always researches what she does. It refers to the way land was made into rows of the ridge and furrow method of farming since medieval times and right up to100 years ago when industrialisation and combined harvesters wiped the ridges furrows out, have a look at fields as shown in Van Gough's paintings if field in particular Wheat Field with Crows. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wheat_Field_with_Crows_(JH_2117)_-_My_Dream.jpg Archaeologists use the way fields were farmed as a dating method. Lammas by the way is rooted in an ancient pagan festival marking one of the four quarters the year was divided into; the four quarter days were adopted into the Christian Calendar as: Candlemas, on the 2nd of February; Whitsunday, on the 15th of May; Lammas, on the 1st of August; and Martinmas, on the 11th of November. They are/were used as part of the judicial year and in contract and employment law. As well as ecclesiastical and academic calendars.

Just be careful to pause those AGT videos often, many reactors got copyright strikes from these AGT morons. Song for A in my opinion is her most overlooked song. The antiquated lyrics did throw me off a bit at first, but its did really grow on me. Her swinging through the melody ist just so beautiful and feels so soothing. Nico Cartosio used this song as a conclusion to a series of songs on his album full of desparation and coldness. I tried one of his music videos for this album, his music is extremly intense. I'm usually not so light hearted but that was too much violence for me. Still an interesting big picture and amazing what he created. Song for A is a real piece of work. It feels like a showcase tailored to her voice for me. But then again maybe it's just Angelina, jumping headlong into the essence of this love song and channeling it.

There is so much wonderfulness in this performance that it requires a thesaurus to describe the level of spiritual elation one’s soul feels. I adore Angelina’s God given talent.

Simply beautiful, to me its two lovers meeting in secret late at night when the stars and moon were at their brightest, on the system which was based on dividing fields into ridges, around three feet high, often seen around rice pappies, the area you walk on to get from one field to the next, but in this case, old-style Barley fields when they were golden in color ready for harvesting with the wind gently blowing through the barley stems making them sway back and forward

I've really been enjoying your reactions to Angelina Jordan. While I love listening to, and watching her, perform it adds an addtional texture to the experience to have someone give a thoughtful reaction to it. Thank you for that. I'm looking forward to your reaction to her performance of The Show Must Go On, particularly as you've already reacted to Dimash, who is an amazing vocalist in his own right. I just have to say, I believe Angelina gets to the soul of the song in such profound and moving way.

This sounds like it once was a raunchy folk song about the going-on in the hay. It still has that feel about it, but transformed into an ethereal, lost-in-the-past feeling. I'm sure it should have been "rigs" of barley, but maybe not. The rhythm of "riches of" sounds a bit uncomfortable to me. [Edit] I've just learned that the words are by Robbie Burns and that it is "rigs" - Scottish pronunciation of "ricks". A pity they didn't pick up on this but maybe they didn't want to spoil the amazing performance. [Another edit] I take it all back. I've just learned that "ridges" is also correct on Lowland Scots. Which is what she sang. I'll shut up next time!

I believe that as her world recognition grows, she would be an excellent choice to sing a Bond theme. Billie Eilish will do the theme on the next Bond movie. I think Angelina is 12 or 13 here. Took awhile for the olde English/Scottish to grow on me. The song is beautiful, and Angelina's voice is stunning. I believe it was written just for her with the lyrics taken from an 18th century Robert Burns poem. As always, thanks for a great reaction to an Angelina performance. 😊💕

The vocal chameleon strikes again :-) The story around this track is fascinating (see below). I am sure that once she gets out there (hopefully not too long now) they will all be beating a path to her door. That's when it will get much harder fending off for her, and those around her, than it has been so far.

It doesn’t matter when it was recorded obviously most recently but we always have to remember she is only 14 now she turned 14 in January so no matter when she puts out a song she’s only 14 and her voice is beyond compare it’s like reaching for the moon and you never getting there she got there

There is another version of this song in a folk style in the movie “The Wicker Man”. And it IS “rigs” of barley.
