By the way the saxophone player was Clarence Clemons he played with Bruce Springsteen’s E street band! Sadly passed away at the age of 69 in 2011. Rip🙏🕊Clarence.

Yup…She was 43 when this tune dropped in 1985. It premiered on MTV and was an instant hit!!!! The CD “Who’s Zoomin’ Who,” dropped after the MTV video had been on heavy rotation. The CD went platinum, silver and Aretha walked away with several awards that following year. "Freeway of Love", proved both a commercial success, as well as a career achievement for Franklin, earning her a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance while holding the number-one position on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for five consecutive weeks. Franklin is the fifth most successful female artist on the Billboard 200 with a total of 995 cumulative weeks on the chart behind Adele, Madonna, Barbra Streisand and Taylor Swift. She is ranked first among female vocalists with the most Billboard chart hits during the rock era (1955-2012) with a total of 88 according to Joel Whitburn's Record Research. She recorded albums from 1956-2014, before passing away in August 2018. Of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time, in 2023, Rolling Stone magazine named Franklin the greatest singer.

Sylvester, Martha Wash, and Jeanie Tracy provided backup vocals on this song. Martha Wash and Izora Armstead formed the duo called Two Tons O' Fun which sang backing vocals for Sylvester, and which later became The Weather Girls who had the 1982 hit "It's Raining Men." Martha Wash was also the lead vocalist on C+C Music Factory's platinum-selling 1990 song "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)."

Best performance she ever did was Natural Women live on the 2012 Kennedy Center honors, must see.
Aretha was from Detroit, but wasn't on Motown Records. She was first on Columbia Records, then Atlantic Records and lastly Arista Records. The name if the song is "Freeway Of Love "

ARETHA WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE QUEEN OF SOUL. This was released in the Summer of 1985 and gir massive airplay. Too bad y'all played the 45 record short version: u really would've gotten more bang for your buck listening to the album version which was 5:55 and uou could hear her ad lib to the end of the song. The album is called "Who's Zoomin' Who". Glad to see y'all yungins "discovering" us old schoolers music. No autotune, but real instruments, especially the sax player, Clarence Clemons (rip) who blew the hell outta that horn, and giving the Motown flava on the drums, Narada Michael Walden. You know uou wanna play this song with your car drop-top and cruise down the highway with this playin!!! Peace n Love

Indeed, Aretha's music was transcendent. Fun facts: 1. This is one of the songs she wrote during her career. 2. "Freeway of Love" earned her another Grammy win in 1985. Whenever I hear this song, I visualize myself cruising down a freeway in a champagne pink 1958 Cadillac convertible! Thanks for doing this reaction. The Queen lives on!

By the way, have you listened to any of the blues greats, e.g. BB King, ZZ Hill, Denise LaSalle, Koko Taylor, John Lee Hooker, LIttle Milton, or Muddy Waters?

2nd comment. I totally forgot to mention that one of my main favorites by then is Gypsy Man! I can listen to that over and over again. I saw them for free at the Rodeo Fair Grounds at Camp Pendleton, CA. In the early 80s. Awesome performance! They always reminded me of old western outlaws that jam 🎶! 😂
