Atarashii Gakko No Leaders (New School Leaders) was formed in 2015 by Asobisystem. Mizyu (the one with two ponytails) had already worked at Asobisystem as she was a back up dancer to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Rin, Kanon and Suzuka joined her. I think of them as an almost anti-idol group as they emphasize individuality and their agency seems to give them a lot of artistic freedom. They are a double threat as they are all very good dancers and can all sing too. They do all their own choreography and also create dances for other groups; here they actually cut out some of the more explicit "phallic" bits of the dance and introduced a mime of a flower opening with a surprised look. Otona Blue (Adult Blues, blue is associated with youth and immaturity in Japan and otonaburu means "acting like an adult") is about "teenage awakening" ie the awareness of desire in others and their own desire to grow up and experience adult emotions. AG wrote the lyrics themselves when they were younger and I think it's an honest expression of their feelings as they approached adulthood, which can make people uncomfortable, and they express this in the lyrics and the coquettish dancing. AG never shy away from difficult subjects. They've been a very niche band in Japan and in 2020 hooked up with 88rising to break into the US. They've had some success with that and have played at some festivals and small venues in California. They recently went viral in Japan on TikTok with Otona Blue, which is a couple of years old and capitalized on that with this First Take performance which now has 16M views.
