Yes I do like this song and only heard it a few times before. Thank you for playing it and for that reaction. AWB is so classy, I'd heard their music for a couple decades before I ever saw them play live on video. There are a couple of cool videos on You tube of them playing a few songs on Soul Train. That was my first impression. 😎

This song was recorded live here in my hometown of Philadelphia Pa. at the long gone Spectrum arena back in 1976! AWB is one of the most talented, yet underrated bands of the era. They have many more great songs that didn't get the exposure they deserved.

Anything by the Average White Band gets a "like" from me. I just had a budget problem in the '70's. I could only afford just so many albums back then. After Rufus and Chaka Khan, Earth Wind and Fire, The Isley Bros., Steely Dan and Rose Royce... well, didn't have enough money to buy them all. Try "Queen of My Soul" and "Work To Do", those are two of my favorites.

@@CC2Cents_, I will. And you're welcome. Those were the days, though. Besides R&B/Soul and funk, the rock and roll had some Titans of music too. We had Phoebe Snow, Joni Mitchell, Janis Ian, Carole King. There was Burt Bacharach and Sergio Mendes, just too many to keep up with.

Hello again CeCe, This song "Cloudy" was written by one of the original members of the Average White Band (AWB). His name is Hamish Stuart (from Scotland), he sang the lead part in this song with such a "smooth soulfulness" and he was the one who hit those long "high notes" too!!! (He gave me some Marvin Gaye vibes, IMHO). The song was written in a special style which lends itself to some interesting interpretations. #1. He wrote this song for his daughter that was beginning to struggle with substance abuse which was affecting her life & his to the point where she "seemed to have a million problems on her mind," "you seem so far away," "I feel like I'm losing you, slowly but surely." You can feel the passionate pain of this father as he pleads with his daughter: "tell me, what we had, is it really dead? Cloudy don't you drift away, No, No!!! You mean too much to me baby!!! #2. It can also be interpreted as a relationship that is experiencing some very difficult times, where the woman is apparently going through so many issues to the point where she's drifting further away from her man, but the man is making the strong pleads to not shut him out as he wants to be there for her & offers to help her solve every little thing that's wrong..."Just try baby, all you got to do is open up that door, what are you waiting for?" #3. The analogy of a "cloud" how they can easily drift away when the winds & storms of life blow hard on us...Don't shut out the people who really love & care about us, but rather reach out & accept their help & assistance!!!

Here's another shout out to you CeCe!!! You made such a true statement, when you spoke of the quality of this "live' performance, saying that it sounded like it was recorded in studio; this is when you know you have great performers!!! I believe this was recorded back in the 70's during one of their live concerts at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA...AWB always delivers the goods!!! Smooth as silk & soulful to the bone!!! Saw them at at Leeds University in the late 70's. Special band throughout. Hamish Stewart has an amazing, unique voice. Suggest you listen to Catch Me, Shine, Soul Searching, Atlantic Avenue. Too many utterly brilliant pieces of music to mention. Been a big fan since 1975 & have everything they ever recorded as the original band.

Hey CeCe, Here is a notable truth about "Old School Music" (compared to the "stuff/junk" that's out there today): Although the content of the lyrics are not happy but kind of sad due to what was happening in their relationship, it was written with compassion, arranged, sang & musically performed in a way that reaches your heart, mind, body & soul...The reason for this is "Old School Music" focused on love, passion & true romance, no matter the circumstance!!!

Hi CeCe, I can see that this live version of "Cloudy" by the Average White Band (AWB) really made a positive impact on you, your reaction all throughout the song was priceless!!! And then it really showed when you had a little difficulty reading the lyrics because the song was still on your mind!!! That tickled me, that was cute (and I say that with the utmost respect!!!). I just love the way they introduced this beautiful ballad to the crowd (you could here people in the crowd cheering & whistling), how they delicately began the song & slowly moved it along & built it up into a powerful crescendo toward the end!!! In my next comments, I will give you my thoughts on the interpretation(s) of the song...Peace, Peace!!!
