Musically, THE best thing ever to come out of Scotland. Massive catalogue of music and I have it all. Been a huge fan since 1975 when I was 16. Steve Ferrone replaced the original drummer who died of a drugs overdose. Unfortunately, Sax player Malcolm 'Molly' Duncan died earlier this year. The other Sax player, Roger Ball is live and kicking still.

@@deeknits Most of my friends were into rock - and nothing else. I played instruments even as a child, and listened to most music. I always liked rock, but was into soul and funk as well - i still am. In the UK most people only listen to one type of music and ignore everything else. My two favourite bands are Jethro Tull and Tower of Power, and you can't get much different than those two! My late wife was a massive fan of Funkadelic, Chaka Khan and Earth Wind and Fire, so at least my wife had taste! Lol

The band were all white when they started out, top flight Scottish soul & funk musicians. But Robbie Mcintosh, the drummer past away. Right after the recording of their seminal album. AWB, he snorted a fatal combination of heroin and cocaine. So they had to find a replacement and English drummer, who was in LA to working with the band Bloodstone, sat in with them. He remained the drummer until the band broke up in 1982.

The Black dude, Steve Ferrone is the drummer. the original drummer was a white dude who died of an overdose at Cher and Greg Allman's house after the first of their thirty + albums. Steve Ferrone had replaced him in his previous band, Brian Auger's Oblivion Express. Steve had played with the other members before, so he was the natural choice. He joined while recording the second album. Steve Ferrone is from Scotland, his father was a diplomat and his mother was from Africa. He is considered one of the best known Scottish Highland drummers.

The original AWB were 6 white guys from Scotland in the early 1970’s. They lost their original drummer from drug overdose (after the white album). The black guy replaced their lost member. They continued to soar through the 1980’s. Since then they’ve lost one of their sax players and only two original members remain. Original members Alan Gorrie and Onnie McIntyer (bass & lead guitar respectively) continue to “shine” (one of their albums). They are one of the best bands ever.
