He was originally a song writer, however he had so many songs just sitting there. He started singing them to put his songwriting talent out there. His voice and songs were so well received that he became a famous singer! He never wanted to be in the spot light. But the world loved him and his songs. So glad you reacted to him. Love you sceez!

If you listen to this song uninterrupted (and also Barry's "Could It Be Magic") you will see that they're just like making love -- they start out soft and slow and then begin to build in intensity ... until they reach climax. Then they slowly release ....... I think that subconsciously THIS is the reason both of these songs have stood the test of time and are still so successful and well-loved.

There are only two types of people in the world: Those who openly love Barry Manilow's music and those do but who are not brave enough to admit it. Back in the 1970s, when I was a teen and an OG fan, it was "uncool" to like him because he sang, composed and wrote orchestral arrangements for mostly big romantic ballads (he did some GREAT up-tempo stuff, too). Few would admit publicly to being fans -- but he sold over 75 MILLION records between 1973-1985, so SOMEBODY must have liked him! Barry had three #1 hits singles on the Billboard Top 40 Chart ("Mandy", "I Write the Songs", "Looks Like We Made It") and another 15 #1 hits on the Billboard Adult-Contemporary Chart. Nearly all of his albums from the 70s have gone triple or quadruple platinum in sales. These days, now 80 years old, Barry just last month broke Elvis Presley's long held concert record of 636 shows on the stage at the Westmore (formerly the International when Elvis played there from 1969 until his death in 1977), and he signed a contract to continue his residency there next year. He also has a musical called "Harmony" for which he composed the score scheduled to open on Broadway on November 13. Barry has won at least one each - Tony, Emmy, Grammy - and was nominated for an Oscar.

A little schmaltzy but it’s really good. I didn’t realize he has a very good voice. I used to really like Barry when I was a kid, then felt embarrassed as I gravitated to Led zeppelin etc but as I get older, Barry’s alright.
