That instrument is called a theremin. It was used in the early days of sci fi movies for ufo sounds and such. Brian Wilson, the leader, falsetto and writer of the music, was the first, or among the first to use this (musical) device in a mainstream song. Great video! I'd love to see more from this band. Also, you would know them from Full House, as the Beach Boys were on it a couple times, and John Stamos (Uncle Jesse) toured with the band and played on a record in the 90's.

My kid built a theremin when he was seven from a kit he got through the mail, the precocious little scamp. He took it to school for the kids to play with.

Beach Boys started out as a Barbershop singing style group. They were masters of beautiful vocal harmonies. ❤You’ve got excellent taste, young man! 😊

A a young 67 year old, I've loved them forever! Saw them in the 80's. So special! Peace from Northern Michigan.

I totally loved your reaction, and yes, the Beach Boys were hugely popular. The kings of harmony. One of their biggest fans were the Beatles. This is a cavernous rabbithole that you have entered, so much material. On a side note, I saw them at a 4th of July bash in Miami Beach in 1984, and they were spectacular. You mentioned "I Get Around," that's one you should check out next. Continued success with your channel.

Their music trajectory was pretty similar to the Beatles, and the quality was on par. They were really pushing the envelope on pop/rock music. Sadly, what probably most kept them from the accolades and respect they deserved was their friggin name. They never escaped the public’s perception of them as a kitschy, surfer-themed boy band.

If you like this, check out Pet Sounds or Smile 1967 (tragiclifeform upload), both great albums by The Beach Boys :)

Stupid video actually detracts from the music but what are you going to do? Close your eyes and wrap yourself in their sound
