Tokusatsu is what it’s called. Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, Zone Fighter, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai (Power Rangers in the USA). It’s all cut from the same cloth of suit acting and heavy use of practical effects.

The style of film is godzilla and ultraman from the 70s.. godzilla movies have been made since the early 70s in Japan.. but only a few American productions within the last 25 years.. power rangers was "originally" a Japanese show.. when they created the English version, they used the Japan footage for action scenes with the American footage scripted scenes. Eventually in the second season they used action footage of some of the rangers from the usa show

Before the age of the internet, we kids, who grew up in that time period (including the Beasties and myself) turned to television. There was no direct programming for kids like there is now. The closest you could get was Saturday morning cartoons (a roughly 3 hour block of Bugs Bunny, Flintstones, Scooby Do, and such), and a handful PBS children's shows (Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Electric Company, Zoom). So, after Saturday cartoons, Networks knew that kids were still watching, and given the lack of kids content, they just filled in blocks with stuff they thought kids would like. One of those things was old Japanese Godzilla movies. There were a bunch of them, but they all featured actors in big floppy monster suits, cheesy special effects, and cheap miniature cities to be stomped on. Power Rangers, coming out over a decade later, was heavily inspired by these films, and copied the formula of goofy costumes, cheap effects, and cardboard miniatures, a style which, by then, kids had already latched onto and Power Rangers proved to be a comeback for the genre. The Beasties videos (Sabotage" is another, for example) often pay homage to TV of that era. It was our "Internet" and the source of our... "memes", so to speak.

Always love to the boys boys! They iterated hip hop ,mixing old school beats with new futuristic style. Put a mark map! The early stuff was raw, but Kutting ! they evolved into master MC's. Few fun facts... The Beastie Boys started out as a punk rock band when they were young. They used to do a few rap songs as a fun joke. Rick Ruben and Russel Simmons put them on Def Jam after having success with Run DMC and LL Cool J. Generally they are considered one of the founding groups of hip-hop, with break beats being their thing. (They actually put out a few break beat albums - no lyrics - way back as well). Their first studio album for Def Jam was probably the first albums with gangsta rap elements that got radio play and was considered mainstream. Their albums are a sample catalog and you will find their beats sampled in lots of songs that came after them. Ultimately, they became considered true hip-hoppers and laid many of the foundations for the modern rap scene we have today and took the expansion of rap to new audiences. That started with Run DMC, but they did it to a much bigger level mainly through colleges. You really should start with their first album. Intergalactic is the refined version of what they do, tight, crisp and less rock influenced. The song Paul Revere is what put them on and anyone in school when it dropped remembers how the school dances would get when it was played. Was very popular and got radio play despite the lyrics...

Trip hop sort of originated in the UK tho...no? Moby and Prodigy and Beastie Boys probably incorporated that style...yet it wasnt reeally triphop imo. Massive Attack is kinda the group that defined a large swath of triphop. I think I know this because I tried to learn what glitch-hop was, and specifically the LA style. A few nerds from and around LA + the ableton DAW basically created glitch-hop. They were Glitchmob. And they are awesome. Their new music is like dark dub rave lol. And that is also kinda epic af. Drink the Sea? Not yet. Check out all the people and vertigo first? Idk

The Lemon Twigs are really inspired by the beatles and bands like that they just have a really fun nice relaxing vibe to them. Vampire Weekend is made up of a bunch of college kids from New York that put sounds from rock, rap, jazz, etc into their music it’s a combined mix of free and a little unhinged to being just what you want to listen to. Both of these bands are just really good give ‘em a try. 😊
