Back in the day when MTV actually played music, this video & these others by Billy were on a constant play loop... White Wedding, Flesh For Fantasy, Eyes without a Face, Mony mony, Dancing with Myself, Hot in the City, & Catch My Fall. Please check them out!

Billy Idol has a ton of awesome songs that were huge in their day. He can sing like a mother*&$%# !! His guitarist, Steve Stevens, can go full on sonic mayhem, and backing it up with hard grinding dirty rocktones. Check out the song HOT IN THE CITY, either listed as a Billy Idol song or a Generation X song (his previous band). It's got the same WOW energy and musical catchiness that this one has.

I definitely recommend White Wedding, Rita Hayworth, Bitter Taste, and U Don’t Have To Kiss Me Like That. He has so many good songs, I could go on. He also turned up in the Wedding Singer on the airplane at the end.

I've seen interviews with Steve Stevens, and even though they were pop-punk (before that was a thing) they always designed their songs for the dance floor!

In the late 70's he was a punkrocker he was a member of the punk band generation x. In the 80's he launches his career into the mainstream with lots of chart hits. And he don' have lost his credebilaty. Check out his version of the song mony mony a total 80's party banger. Or the video to his song to be a lover where he is showing off his entertainment quality alone in a ring. And he is one of these guys with this unique god given voice. You can recognize him every time. Now i play mony mony on ten and do a little escalation in my home

The Rebel Yell is something the Confederate army were famous for doing during battle in the Civil War. The actual Rebel Yell sounded like a huge pack of coyotes yipping at the top of their lungs, but today it means more like a yell you let out when you’re REALLY enjoying yourself and don’t care who knows, like screaming YEAH or YEEHAW, although mostly more just kind of a wordless noise. This song isn’t about a breakup, it’s Billy Idol celebrating that his girl is really enthusiastic in bed and that’s why he’s with her!
@jenniferfoster16923 ай бұрын
From Billy's mouth, he said he was at a big party with the Rolling Stones and such, and there was a bottle of alcohol called 'Rebel Yell'. It sounded cool and inspired him so he wrote this song.
@MichaelLopez-dn6gg2 ай бұрын
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention the Confederate connection to the term.
@jenniferfoster16922 ай бұрын
@@MichaelLopez-dn6gg Yes, in America we have that connection but Billy Idol is British and saw the name on a bottle of whiskey/alcohol at a party & thought it sounded cool. It has no Confederate meaning originating from the writer of the song.

Is this your first Billy Idol video? I've always been a fan. You crack me up when you say there were no phones😉 It was the 80s, man, the phones were plugged into the walls. It was a better time, leaving those things at home. Also, we just accepted that this was typical rock and roll, altho Billy always did his own thing, which was fantastic. I just love his music. During the pandemic, he became introspective about his motorcycle accident in the late 80s? early 90s? don't quote me- and he wrote a killer song called Bitter Taste. The guy is in his late 60s and still kicking ass! 🖤

A Lil' History... A Rebel Yell was what the confederates in the Civil War used when they charged the Union lines. It is said the sound was so terrifying that many union soldiers dropped their guns and ran. Hence the intensity of her screams, "More, More, More!" It was supposedly used at Gettysburg during Pickett's charge, but the union soldiers held their ground and fought back the advance. Gettysburg was the farthest north the South would ever get... the tide of the war was changed there.

It was hard on us, Billy being so good lookin’. It was a lot to ask of us teens. 4:02 yes! “Oooooh!” Steve Stephens’ guitar playing in this song STILL makes me feel that way. But nothing could compare to the 4:23 “showing out” - talk about setting a scene. It raised our expectations on relationships … and not in the healthiest way. 😅😂Thanks, Stax! Oh! It's not about anger - it's about a woman who is so good in bed and insatiable that he would give everything to keep her. He named the song after having 'Rebel Yell' Whiskey with Mick Jagger and David Bowie. The term 'Rebel Yell' comes from the strange and terrifying sounds confederate soldiers would make just prior to attacking or defending an attack - it freaked the Union army out bad fir the first couple of years of the civil war.
