my favorite line is "Never understood that it ain't no good, you shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you". If you let other people tell you how to have fun, you let other people tell you how to live. Think about that in the context of entertainment today - are we all just out here imitating films and shows that tell us what it means to live? If so, is that the cost of losing the ability to entertain yourself?

Bob Dylan is a poet so his lyrics are important. Check out: The Times they are Changin' by Dylan. Do the lyric video. This applies to most 70's/80's music. They may not be rapping but they are saying something.

Definitely doesn't apply to most 60s and 70s music. You're memory-holing an awful lot of shallow, insipid trash music if you think that. It applies to a large percentage of songs that still get played today, because that's just how time works, but that extends to all music, not just the 60s and 70s. In 50 years people will be saying the same things about whatever music from today is still being played then.

One of the all-time great lyricists - if not the greatest... and this is one of the greatest diss songs ever! Dylan's songs redefine the term "deep". "Visions of Johanna", "Subterranean homesick blues" (possibly the first ever rap!), "Desolation row"... Dylan has literally hundreds of great songs. Good move to have the lyrics available - there's plenty of meat in the words, and they take a lot of thinking about.

My first time ever hearing this back in the 1960s, I had to have this in my fairly new record collection - a vinyl 45 rpm record (anyone remember those?) with the red Columbia record label and the song was on BOTH sides of the record! I played this record soooo much that I turned it white! (Anyone remember turning records white by playing them over and over?!) ! This was my introduction to Bob Dylan and I still listen to him, and still see him in concert in the New York City area, and no matter what people say about his voice, I love his voice, his artistry, writing, words, and listen to Patti Smith accepting Dylan's Nobel Prize for Literature in his honour and performing his music. And all the recommendations other people have written here - I love them all. And Twon, it is so refreshing to hear a young man like you listening and reacting and appreciating different kinds of music! Don't let people freak you out; stay Twon, Twon!

His harmonica is like a trademark with him. He plays it more country-style, not bluesy. Has many Grammys, been on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine like 17 times, among the first to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has written and published hundreds of songs, sang on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I have a dream" speech, changed rock music forever, influenced so many other musicians, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Nobel Prize for Literature 4 years ago. He is a one of a kind genius. And it's not just his lyrics. Albums have been made by other artists of his songs and they are strictly instrumental. Loved your reaction.

This song is about Edie Sedgewick. She was a popular socialite girl that hung out with Andy Warhol and bob Dylan. She acted in a few of Warhol's movies.
