Asia and BJ- Thanks once again for doing David Gates. You can never go wrong with him. The group was Bread but David Gates did it all. He was the lead singer, wrote all the songs, and played guitar. Your next song by them should be Diary. I really believe you will like this one.

David wrote most of the songs, James Griffin(lead guitar) wrote & sings lead on a few. James co-wrote with Robb Royer(org bass player) even after Robb was replaced they continued to write songs.

I'm 70 years old now, and continue to thank God, for all the wonderful and incredible music I've experienced in my lifetime. From my first 45 rpm my mother bought me when I was 4 years old, which was Elvis Presley's "You Aint' Nothin but a Hound Dog" to AM-Radio, to FM-Radio starting in 1967, from Motown to Hard Rock. I've been truly blessed. Most of all, I was 12 years old when the 1st Beatles song "I Want to Hold Your Hand played on AM-Radio in 1964, which I listened to on my little AM Radio.

Y'all are so right about the effect the guitar can have on you. I've been blessed to see so many great guitarists live...Hendrix, Jimmy Page (Zeppelin), Joe Walsh, Brian May (Queen), James Burton (with Elvis throughout the 70's) etc. I even got to meet Scotty Moore several years ago, the legendary pioneer who was with Elvis in their early days (& with him on the '68 Comeback Special). He was elderly but could still move you with his playing. I wish you could've experienced some of the moments I did, when the music they played soared through an arena & pierced you right in the heart. Speaking of guitarists who can pierce your heart, please react to Stevie Ray Vaughan, "Riviera Paradise" live in Austin 1989. It's an instrumental that's been known to bring grown men to tears. Stevie wrote it right after he got clean & sober & always dedicated it to "anyone out there still suffering". Please, that Austin City Limits version. 💙☮💙☮💙☮

David Gates was a good friend with Larry and when he recorded his solo music Larry was on his albums for that too! James Griffin also who was in Bread wrote some great songs too! The guitar part was played by Larry Knechtel who toured with Bread for a while but was better known as a member of Phil Spector's studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew. Larry played on so many famous artists and albums too numerous to put down. Known more for his piano, keyboards, harmonica and bass playing. Guitar playing was not his strongest instrument. David Gates asked him to try a solo when his own and Bread's regular guitarist couldn't come up with anything they liked. Larry sat down with a guitar and wah wah pedal and knocked it out of the park. Larry played the piano on Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water for which he earned a Grammy. He's heard on studio cuts by The Byrds (Mr. Tambourine Man), Elvis Presley (If I Can Dream), The Doors (debut album), Barbara Streisand (Stoney End), Neal Diamond. He toured with Bread, The Dixie Chicks and Elvis Costello. He was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame. He died in 2009. R.I.P.

I grew up listening to the soft rock music of Bread in the 70's & had their albums. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "If", "Make It With You", "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Everything I Own", "Diary", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me", "Sweet Surrender" & "Aubrey".
