No one tells stories like Bruce. This is a very familiar one, based on the life of his one year younger sister Virginia, who got pregnant and married at a pretty young age, living their parents life in New Jersey. The difference is, they are married till this day.

I heard he originally got the name because he would go the club owners etc and collect the money, (before becoming famous) then made sure everyone in the band got their cut...he was the "boss". From there...well just delve into his catalog of incredible songwriting, vocal delivery and live shows that he has done 3-5 hours long....for over 52 years now....and the energy is unmatched....he is a maestro of it all. He is THE Boss!

The pianist is “The Professor” Roy Bittan, who also played keyboards on, among other things, most of Jim Steinman’s projects including MeatLoaf’s Bat Out Of Hell and Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse Of The Heart. I would also recommend checking out anything from the Live at the Hammersmith Apollo 1975 gig which launched Bruce into the musical hierarchy, there’s plenty of him on harmonica, and just a band in perfect synchronicity, IMHO the standout tracks are Thunder Road and Rosalita which closes the show.

Such a hauntingly beautiful song. The album version takes a different tone - it has no piano, just acoustic guitar and harmonica. It’s a more somber version with a feeling of resignation - acceptance of how things turned out. This one has more anger and more vibrance, which is sometimes needed for a live version.

"Thunder Road" by Bruce is my favorite by far.

This song is a true story about Bruce’s sister and brother-in-law. She got pregnant and he had to work a job he was forced into to support their young family. While languishing with the rest of marginalized society. They stayed together and remain married. This song always felt like a ghost story to me.

You should listen to the Live in New York City version, it is a different arrangement and has a beautiful intro and outro with Clarence on sax and Bruce on harmonica. Also, check out Reason to Believe from any of the current tour (2024) it is a bluesy version with a phenomenal harmonica. Bruce can play guitar, bass guitar, piano, pump organ, harmonica to name a few. Writes all his own songs. He became the boss way back in the 70's when he used to be responsible for paying off the band.
