If you want lyrics, just to read (not in video format) check out doolset BTS, they translate and then give subtext and Korean references, or they'll point out when BTS are referencing previous songs or things they've said that's relevant. A lot of people read those b4 or after the mv or live. For some songs watch dkdktv for breakdowns of songs like ugh and ddaeng which you must check out soon! 💜

I find that j-hope excels in rap when you watch him. He raps through his understanding of dance, so I think you’ll appreciate his style more when you watch him perform. Hobi/J-hope came on as the lead/dancer who learns the choreo and teaches the members - he is strict- perfection is expected! He was a street dancer but BigHit saw more in him and he learned to rap with the help of RM &Suga. The original team was all rappers but they dropped out leaving Namjoon alone - Suga and Hobi came together with him and Namjoon has led them ever since. Hey, Hobi/J-hope headlined solo at Lallopalooza last month over 100,000 people showed up, he outsold every artist... performing his album Jack in the Box and from previous albums. If you want to dive into the genius wordplay and lyricism of BTS and esp joon (rm), I highly recommend you listen to UGH and then react to the DKDTV explanation that goes into all of the cultural context. It’s insane how good they are w their writing. RM being an actual genius helps a lot haha (his iq is 148). Additionally - for reading lyrics outside of videos, use doolset bangtan! They have translations of all BTS songs and they will add in cultural context a lot of us miss, as well as how they reference their past work.

J-hope's style reminds me of Drake's because of his kind of melodic flow, after all my man is a sub-vocalist in BTS so yeah. It's like his dancing on the beat, maybe because he came from an underground street-dancing background? And out of the rappers, Jhope often changes his tone of voice and cadence, and I would say he is the best at it no one can change my mind. My favourite part is when Suga finishes the section where most of the instrumentation drops out-although he's speaking in Korean, it sounds like "I can still go" in English, which I don't believe is a coincidence. He finishes that legendary run and then keeps going in Korean with a secondary burn in English. And we army always say this, "RM analyses the lyrics, Suga criticises the lyrics, and J-hope visualises the lyrics."

If you like RM i really hope you'll listen to his solo mixtapes, RM (2015) and mono(2018). While the first one is heavy hiphop with sampled tracks that show the power and burning heart of younger RM, mono shows a different more introspective and matured side of him, with a new style and completely original tracks. And it's crazy to see how since 2018 he has improved and evolved further... i'm really looking forward to his next solo album, i think it's gonna be very indie-influenced and experimental, just like his newest collab with Balming Tiger, Sexy Nukim

It's always better to hear the studio versions first and see the lyrics, then live performance afterwards. That way they go into live performances knowing the song and lyrics already, they can pay more attention to the performance itself. It's hard to pay attention to many things at one time if they go straight into live performances. The crowd noise can distort the sound of the song sometimes too.
