Yeah, pretty sure J-Hope was talking about kpop rappers who rap in English to cater to the US. BTS has always been adamant about writing their own raps, so I think he was just showing his pride in that their Korean lyrics pushed them to the top anyway. Love you guys’ BTS reactions! You’re a new fave!

Has anyone mentioned American Hustle Life yet? It is their reality show from 2014 where they went to L.A. to be tutored by American hip hop artists. I haven't watched it yet (still making my way through Run BTS) but I think it would be super interesting to eventually see your take on it given your knowledge of American rap/hip hop. I'm still pretty new to Army life so not sure if there are any controversies on this particular show but it is next on my list to watch.

From what I remember, Rm even at 13 was making underground rappers scared to go against him. I could be wrong on the age. I live all the different styles of these guys. Jhope was a dancer way before he rapped. I love watching him live.

okay i have to clarify that he (j-hope) was actually talking about the korean rappers who talks shit about them during their debut, RM and SUGA were underground rappers before they started being in bts, but then they got a lot of hate by korean rappers because they decided to be "idol rapper", since idol rapper has a reputation of being horrible at rapping plus these korean rappers always think they're above everyone else just because they can rap in english but sometimes the lyrics aren't that good so it's kind of like a "diss" for them too

The best description of their rap styles I've ever heard and it's very accurate: RM raps with his mind, Suga raps with his heart and Jhope raps with his body. RM is a genius when it comes to lyrics. His IQ is 148 (that literally puts him in the 0.01% of population), he reads constantly and I mean heavy literature like philosophy etc so his wordplay is off the chart. Suga looks reserved and sometimes even cold for those who don't know him well but actually he's anything but. And he puts all his emotions in his rap, all his bottled up anger and struggles from their earlier years (OMG you should listen to his solos "First Love" and "The Last" * shivers*). Now he's much calmer as he's getting older but still he will be the one who aproaches their problems honestly and will tell what's on his mind in his rap. And as others said many times Jhope was a street dancer, his rap is rhytmic, he has a strong emphasys on old-school hip-hop that you can dance to. His body is constantly in motion, his stage presence is unbeatable. Mind, heart and body, the three of them perfectly complement each other.

My take on live performances is a bit different. Artists can start and stop, do many takes and then produce in or out elements they want when they are in the studio. This is perfectly acceptable as the results can be fantastic. However, it is live performances which demonstrate the full measure of what artists skills. Everything is in front of you. There is no hiding. And if and artist can put an audience into the palm of his hand, that makes the intersection of art and performance the true measuring stick on multiple levels. If an audience muddies a reaction with its adulation, then yes visit the recording as well as the live. However, the gold standard is the ability to both be an artist and actually perform at a top tier.

I actually do agree with this take, crowd control and MCing are skills in there own right but the track is gonna have the best take of the visions the writer had in their brain when creating the track. You’re more likely to see the peak on a song. Love just being able to have this debate though❤️
@nidzzy
@nidzzy 2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. With Live performances there is no takes no changes no chance of missing a line or fumble where as in the studio, the sound may be clearer but there no one records at one go. For BTS they are true performers. Live performance is where the real artistry is proved. Also people are ready to discredit their ability to rap and throw hate and shade at their work and belittle them every chance they get (even in their own Country). BTS had to endure hate and discrimination but that is unrelated to your video and that is why we try to protect them and defend them every chance we get. But love you guys 💜 and please react to more BTS

@@12ManyReactions I like your take on listening to the track in studio in addition to the lives, especially if you haven't heard the song before. In BTS's case they do often alter the song for stage performances, usually with a live band or they'll have a stage mix of the track to make it sound better on a large stage, so I'm really appreciative when you're interested enough in the music to go listen to the studio track right away because sometimes they can be very different! Love your reactions so much so as far! Also, I really wanna see you guys react to a track off Suga's first mixtape, called Agust D. (His solo stuff is under the name Agust D, and the track is also called Agust D which is off the self titled mixtape!)

It's interesting you commented rhat RM would probably shine better in a more intimate setting, because I remember he said something along those lines. As you know, J-hope killed it at Lollapalooza in front of a giant crowd to promote his album, but when talking about possible performance to promote his own album, RM said he'd like to perform for a smaller crowd. Btw, I love seeing you swaying between rappers LOL. All three are so good that even if you have a favorite, you can't help but be impressed by the other two. They're all so different.

Most people seem to prefer Cypher 3, but Cypher 2 remains my favorite of the 4, although Cypher 4 is close behind because of the message (I do love Cypher 3). By 3, J-Hope had hit his stride. It was amazing how much he grew in such a short time, a testament to his hard work (one thing I love about BTS is their work ethic. They worked hard for what they've achieved and even if you don't like them, you should respect them for that alone). For me, RM is the most technically skilled and has insane word play, Suga is the most raw and straight-forward with his raps, and J-Hope dances his rap. I think J-Hope is special because he started as a dancer and then became a rapper and he isn't like any other rapper I've heard. I listen to all of their music a lot because it is all fantastic, it just depends on the headspace at the time which ones are on repeat that day. The 3 of them together are like magic though. Ugh is amazing. Outro: Tear is amazing. Ddaeng is amazing. I listen to all of those, plus Cyphers 2-4 (I generally skip 1), all the time.

Love that you watched the live! My favorite cypher! And sugas as well, it was one of his picks for their anthology album that recently came out. In my opinion cypher 2&3 show the best rap skill, cypher 4 is great but not quite as much of a focus on the rap verses but IT HITS at BTS club nights omg. Out of the three of them (even tho suga is my bias, love me a sad angsty boy lol) jhope for sure steals the show, no one can match his stage presence, energy, emotion and they way he can so effortlessly move his body to every part of the beat like water, it’s insane. Def recommend UGH or DDaeng (just not the vocal line video lol) next followed by the dkdktv explanation to rlly understand how deeply nuanced and amazing their lyricism is in the context of Korean culture. If you want to do a lil dive into BTS as a whole, a great overview is this medley they did last year, one song from each album. 2021 Festa room live: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIPLm5ePqLOqd80

The one thing you can say is that they just flow and rap their butts off. It took them a few years to get over all the hate they got from other rappers for supposedly selling out by becoming idols. It didn’t blunt their talent or abilities at all. The rest of BTS, the vocal line goes a bit crazy over this cypher (ie they can and have rushed the stage to jump around so hyped up about Cypher 3). You can see the evolution of all their skills especially JHopes as the Cyphers go on. 4 is my personal favorite for the live.

I love live performances so much, but for cypher 3 in particular I think it’s hard for RM to get that contrasting tone and volume change in his part. I prefer his verse on track. But at the same time I enjoy all the various ad libs they add in on stage. I see others recommending “UGH”, I add my vote in too lol (This isn’t related to the song, but I appreciate how you title your videos. They are really concise? idk, they look neat and put together. Plus you have playlists, I’m in love)

One thing I will say when is that when it comes to the rap line and this being imo RM is the lyricist j hope is the flowmaster and suga is a combination of both so when it comes to their raps definitely look at the lyrics especially for RM there the Korean word play you won't even realize and then when he switches from Korean to English being bilingual😤😤

Guys I think for the next cover you should do the track version first and THEN the live. Like when you listen to the track first you can properly see how it originally sounds normally without a live band and loud crowd. Then you'll be that much more excited to see it live now that you know for sure what the song is all about you know? The last cypher is awesome too, so I really suggest listening to the track first and then having your minds blown even further by the live version. I don't know, I just feel like the anticipation would be greater and more worth it that way🙄😁🙌🏾

People in the K-hiphop scene looks down on rappers in idol groups like how BTS is perceived in Korea. They don’t care how good a rapper you are. That comment about rappers trying hard to rap in English I think is directed at them. You only need to Google BTS and “B-Free” who is a Korean American rapper from Hawaii to understand this context. Don’t fall into the same trap as those guys. These cyphers by BTS’ rap line ARE NOT KPOP.

In my opinion, It is better to listen to the studio version first and live performance later, That way you can listen to the song clearly and can read the lyrics too. So when you watch live performance you can just enjoy it and absorb the energy and their passion also the presence of crowd and their fan-chants just take the live performance to another level. Some song suggestions to your liking:- MIC DROP (This should be your next plzzz😭) Ddaeng (Rap line) UGH! (Rap line) Fire (all 7) Dis-ease (all 7) Silver Spoon/Baepsae (all 7) Hip-hop phile (all 7) No more dream (all 7) (its their debut track) Danger (all 7) We are bulletproof pt2 (all 7) Jump (all 7) Ma city (all 7) Attack on bangtan (all 7) Boyz with fun (all 7) Persona & Do you (RM's solos) Agust D & Shadow & what do you think(SUGA's solos) More & What if & Base line (J-hope's solos) Also it would be cool if you can react to J-hope's full performance at this year's LOLAPALOOZA, he was the healiner and deliverd a 1 hour long mind blowing performance (full performance is available on their KZbin channel BANGTAN TV)

Nice! Cyphers 2 & 3 are definitely my favorites. My husband and I constantly argue which is the best. He’s 100% convinced Cypher 2 is the best but I think as a song overall I like 3 the best. But it’s also hard for me to decide which of the 2 has the best RM verse 😂 I love Yoongi’s verse in Cypher 4 so looking forward to you seeing that. Also just FYI the Cypher medley has all of Cypher 4 in it! Highly recommend the medley!

I love how all of them have different strengths and weaknesses but when all of them come together they make up each other's weaknesses. Idk hopefully this makes sense. Personally, Suga and Jhope kill it when they rap live. Jhope has amazing stage presence, but when Suga gets into it and is rapping his stage presence is just as good. Suga, in my opinion, is very underrated when it comes to his stage presence. Mostly because he is an introvert and has social anxiety, so he doesn't love the spotlight always on him. Also, Yoongi (Suga) when first joined had health problems with his hurt shoulder so he couldn't perform his best all the time and was in a lot of pain. Unlike now (since he has had his shoulder surgery) you can tell his is a lot happier and puts even more energy on the stage. As for RM I think he has pretty good stage presence. I think over the years he has gotten better. Also, I think when he is giving raps where he just stands their and rap, the style of rapping that is telling people to listen to what he has to say, is where he shines the best, in my opinion. However, all are amazing and could never really chose a favorite because they all have their strengths, and they all complement one another.

My favorite thing about rap line performances is the way they hype the fk out of each other. They're so invested in each other's performance and the performance as a whole. Plus Suga taking down his hood right before he starts his rap always gets me.

Sooo glad you reacted the cypher3 and can't wait for you to react the cypher4. I love 2&3 but 4 is my favorite because of the meaning. Also you've mentioned about the track that refers to their inspiration (rappers) It's " HIPHOP LOVER " I'm pretty sure you'll gonna love it. UGH and DEANG reaction must be followed by explanation. Coz there's a lot of wordplay that only korean understand... Also hopefully you will react to vocal line as well. "HOUSE OF CARDS" and "TRUTH UNTOLD " Is mind blowing especially the live performances. Can't wait for you to react this one. Thankssss and have a nice day ahead.

It is always better to watch the lyric video or the music video first before watching the live performance.

Cypher 2 is purest and far superior in both rap and lyricism. Cypher 3 is 2nd, Cypher 1 and 4 are last. However, Cypher 4 is one of my favorite rap songs

Thank you for your reaction. It was a great call to listen for the studio version. This one’s a cypher but for other songs you have to keep in mind that they’re performing as a group. So each of them brings a different flavour to the song. As a group, it’s about what’s best for the song instead of the individual showing off their skills. Therefore, you will see different levels and styles of performances from all three of them in different songs. I get that comparing is your thing. But comparing between these three kinda seems pointless in group songs because they work in ways that compliment each other. I get that this was a cypher so some level of individualistic performance was expected. You could dive into their individual works to find out more about their individual flavour and preferred style of music. You will not be disappointed. 😊 Also, I was wondering, would you consider diving into their non-hiphop music at all? Or are you only interested in the hip hop bit?

I agree! This one is a tie between who's verse I like the most! They all rap in a slightly different way though so you can't really compare that easily.
