They originally wrote the song as 'I need you friend', which makes sense when you see the video and when you get into the BU. But they changed it to girl as it sounded better. Can you believe they appeared on all those weekly music shows for 2 YEARS before getting a win with this song. Talk about hard graft and persistence. Have you reacted to Zero O'clock yet? A vocal line track with some of the most comforting lyrics, one of my favs and I think you might cry! 😥💜

@@GOTGames “heartbeat” is a song that was made specifically for the mobile game called “BTS world” that basically you choose a path for each member and they’re all loving separately doing totally different jobs and feeling unfulfilled… and you make choices for them all and are trying to get them to find each other so they can reach where their supposed to be.. and that’s together! It’s like they fully act out their different storylines and stuff so you see their stories play out by whatever you choose for them. It’s fictional storyline and has nothing to do with the BTS universe.. but the song for that game like I said is “heartbeat” and gives you the gist of the game in the mv and shows them separately and then also together and showing them becoming BTS in the game and ugh this song is so beautiful and I tear up every time with this gorgeous pull at your heart strings song with seeing them find each other and the domino effect of good bc their together is just amazing! It’s so good and I know that you’re going to like it.. and the story’s are not as heavy as they are for this mv. So if you’re looking for that kinda reaction than I would definitely check this out! Their song “so what” is one of the most hype get your happy positive energy up feel good type of song that’s SO incredible live with the energy… it doesn’t have choreo and is just them fully interacting together and with the crowd and bouncing all over the stage together having the most fun to such a good song… makes you feel happy for sure! There is no music video for it… but you def could react to the live performance of it and get the gist of the lyrics .. ..you could even do Anpanman and So What together bc they perform them back to back and for Anpanman they actually performed this song on tour and had a literal like bouncy house blow up playground on stage with a huge slide and different things they can bounce on together or slide down together…. And they do this song and so what back to back so high energy , fun and cute!!! I can’t remember if you reacted to anpanman already.. I feel like you may have.. but it’s actually based on this Japanese kinda superhero who doesn’t have any super hero powers but he gives himself up to others to save them even though he’s just a regular guy… like you don’t need super powers to be a super hero to ppl kinda idea so it’s really cute and quirky choreo for this one but they don’t do the choreo with the blow up playground on stage… so the dance is fun and cute bc it’s kinda showing the story of anpanman as they dance .. but the live performance of the two songs together with is such a fun, high energy and uplifting couple of songs that leave you feeling good for sure!!!! This song is beautiful. The composition of all of the singing parts is perfect. Jungkook and Jimin’s high notes in the chorus are wondrous give the chorus just that little something to make it unforgettable. I also really like how V’s and Jin’s singing parts lead up to the chorus. Everything about this song just pulls you in and refuses to let you go until the final second. The transitions are perfect. The story at the root of the song is a story of youth. BTS explores the dichotomy of angst and optimism, love and hate, and anxiety and fearlessness that defines the teenage experience. "I need you, girl. Why do I need you when I know it hurts me?" they sing. "I Need U" further plays up the horrors of young love by pulling inspiration from R&B tunes to build an atmosphere of heartbreak and longing. The whole MV is an allegory of the hardships of growing up. This whole video focuses on each of the BTS members at their worst, as they struggle with pain, depression, abuse and anger. While they may be fine when with their friends, each of the members are completely miserable and vulnerable when alone. All of their stories were so real, that I can’t help but be so touched by each one. This video is so moving, and it portrays the raw emotions of each member so well. The juxtaposition between the members’ happy moments with each other and sad moments alone is really what makes this such an impactful video. In one moment, we see Suga and Jungkook cuddling in front of a fire, and in the next we get the image of Jimin submerging himself underwater. It is dramatic changes like this that make the meaning of the video so vivid: when they are together, they can be as happy and carefree as they want, but once they are alone and behind closed doors, their worlds come crashing down. BTS have said that “‘I NEED U’ shows you the good amongst the bad and “RUN” shows you the bad amongst the good”. "My life's ruined all because of you. I'm so done with it, I don't want you anymore,". They then break into a chorus of "I need you, girl. Why do you love me and leave me all by yourself? I need you, girl." Sounds like they're having a hard time making their mind up about this girl, huh? Well, when RM wrote the lyrics he initially intended the lyrics to be "I need you friend", but if you sing it like that it doesn't sound good, so he changed it to "I need u girl", but the real meaning is that “I need u friend”, so it's a breakup song and at the same time it fits into the Bangtan Universe storyline. You need to watch all the MV's in order to understand the storyline. It's almost like a puzzle but lemme tell you it will blow your mind. The storyline itself is very deep. RM - Works in a gas station (which he hates), the clients treat him like shit (throwing money on the ground instead of giving it to him) and imagery of him smoking. Jin - in a room alone, Jin burns away his flower petals, the last images of beauty that he owns. He is a very important character in the storyline of this MV and other MVs. (All the MVs under the same storyline can be found by looking at the description of the videos, they are marked with "BU content certified by Big Hit Entertainment”). Suga - in a motel, missing someone (scene in the bed), buys gasoline and burns the room with himself inside (suicide). J-Hope - is sick and needs meds (apparently suffers from narcolepsy, he actually has munchausen’s syndrome), but abuses the drugs and passes out in the sidewalk of a road from an overdose. Jimin - in the bathtub burning a photo (his memories), he seems in distress , desolate and scared. Tries to drown himself. V - catches his dad (an alcoholic) abusing his sister, in anger and adrenaline he starts stabbing his dad and kills him. Jungkook - walks around alone at night, basically asking for trouble as he passes by a bunch of thugs without a care in the world. Seems to not care about anything (depression) and ends up being hit by a car at the end after being beaten by said thugs.

I Need U is such a sad song as you read the English translations. Plus this song was the turning point of their careers as they really started to notice more and more people around the world were tuning into them. It was also their first win at a music award show. Their award proved to other groups in the industry that their fandom is so fierce of protecting their love to us and also are fiercely loyal, compassionate and caring for them. When I read the lyrics, I cried my eyes out for them as that only increased my love and dedication to them.

Id also add, the "I need you" can refer to the BU in that, alone, they suffer without friends to lean on and help them through the tough times while together, they thrive and can defeat the issues that come their way (better explanation in xceleste video🙃🙃). I'm loathe to say it but I was voting for this one hard in the streams. I knew it would hit you 😁😁 (sorry not sorry). The BU is dense and spans several videos, games, and books. I HIGHLY recommend Celeste's explanation video for a Friday video (it's long and involved). But it has a great story. Each member is a character and you just get hit with the feels.

💜💜💜I feel ya. It's was such a shock of a MV when I first saw it when it came out.they hit us out of left field with no warning. It was a change in music style, fashion as well as this being the first video without choreo in the MV(the Japanese song, also part of the Bangtan Universe. Well, it kinda gives some hints and fills some gaps). No one knew what to make of it. The song is so beautiful and although sad in nature, got one oh the biggest stepping stones, their first show daesong (grand prize), and to watch them get that and the priceless look of shock, awe, and happiness they had that day still gives me goosebumps from the memory alone. Anyways, WELCOME to the start of the sub BTS rabbit hole, know as the BU🌌(Bangtan Universe) ❗❗❗🎢 make sure you fasten your seat belt Next is On prologue, then Run, then Young Forever(also in suggest watching the Wembly Army time of this where fans supprised the boys ), add in the Japanese versions of I Need You and Run, and there is what I call the first chunk of the BU(hint...watch for the pairing of the boys relationships :) ). It all gets a bit deeper during wings so I'll leave that here. I have links and resources material as well as my notes in have taken over the years ( I kinda full on obsessively dove into the BU after YF. I'm even used their lyrics as basis for 2 collage papers😶) if you would like. First mv of the Bangtan Universe storyline....You've been warned. Totally worth the effort, but it IS very emotional and sometimes extremely hard to get thru. I swear, the BU is some of the absolute best visual storytelling I have ever seen. And the members' acting is just amazing! I always tell people that if you're gonna do the storyline, remember that MOST of the story and clues is in the visual mv, not necessarily in the lyrics. (Not true for EVERY aspect, but mostly, and it explains why as you said, this mv isn't what the lyrics make you think if you just heard the song.) I would absolutely adore it if you did the storyline - it is VERY detailed and has quite the story arc. But you CAN enjoy all the music vids and songs without knowing the storyline. Sounds like your Twitch community is leading you down the storyline mv's in order, lol.

this is the song that made them break through in korea, earned their first awards, it was concidered that if they didn't have success with this comeback(didn't reach the goals the label/industry made) they would have to disband bc they are not profitable, but thanks god, this song touched more people and bc of it we see today bangtan. the hyyh 1 era is the change, the bridge between their hip hop/dark era and pop era.

We totally get you. In my opinion they're surprisingly great actors. A lot of new ARMYs think the storyline is their real life stories lol. I must admit that I thought Tae actually killed his dad for a short while, until I learned about the BU. We're just not used to such heavy acting in music videos, much less from a "boy band" The storyline is dark but healing. I need you girl may look like it's a break up song but this is BTS their songs are deeper than that. Original lyrics were I need you friend but it didn't sound right so they change it to I need you girl. It actually means Sadness behind happiness and then we have run in the contrast which means happiness behind sadness. They can be happy as long as they are together but they still have inner demons. I never used to watch mv's first and so for this song I saw the live performances and the beautiful choreo first (speaking of, you need to watch that!) So I was shook when I saw the MV. I was just like whaaaaa?! Yeah definitely their darkest mv. But so powerful. The MV is also hugely about the bts storyline which of course is a whole other thing.

I Need U was such an important song for BTS. It was the song that they got their first weekly award show win for (which is a huge milestone for an idol group) and it also represents the start of the BTS Universe (which is a whole other entity). It was also the first video that they did where their dancing was not featured (I recommend checking out the practice video as it is pretty epic) so this song was a huge departure from they way that they did things but it really did show off their growth as artists. This music video is the start of the BU. The acting they do in their videos is absolutely amazing. It makes me wonder how many takes it took them to get some of these scenes just right. It is kind of incredible how real it can feel sometimes because they embody their characters and the story so well. If you want the continuation of the story, "on stage: Prologue" is the next video, then "RUN". Edit: Their Japanese music video for "Blood, Sweat & Tears" is a trip if you were interested in melting your mind.

Run goes with it and also V stigma goes with I need you where he is apologizing to his brother and sister for killing their father I think for abusing their mother I think it was or sister. I cant remember exactly. I cried the 1st time I saw this and I knew you would react this way too everyone does. After a video like that you need a cheerful one. Some people say that the lyrics have nothing to do with the MVs in the BU and do not match due to them saying I need u girl instead of friend, but they very much do. I need u, really talks about having something or somebody that you love or can't let go of despite it being bad for you, i love u, i hate u, why do i love you when you don't even care. This represents those painful attachments some have in youth but have little emotional control over, like an abusive parent, a parent that abandonned you, a dead parent, an addiction, a bad friendship that has traumatised you but you can't move on from because you are meant to love them. But it has an encouraging note that friendship can get you through those times and emotional turmoil. Can't wait for Onstage Prologue, the short film that comes after this in the BU which has the song Butterfly. React to Onstage Prologue with subtitles as it has really beautiful the lyrics in Butterfly, it is about human fragility and being on the precipice, but friends trying to reach out to someone who is on the edge of disappearing.

Oh Luke, you should watch spinebreaker song then, either their self made MV or their iconic stage performance being no.1 clowns on stage.. That should put your mood right back in. I need you song follows their BU storyline and each character's role intertwine with the each other. It goes deep and there are some more songs that follow this. Don't feel down, instead you can see how good their acting skills are too! This song won their first daesang so it holds a very special place in armys hearts. PLUS it's a beautiful song too.

Oh, Luke. When I saw this pop up in my notifications I was like, he’s not ready lol. And then you were like, “Shit…this is that song.” 😂😂😂 You did well though! That MV caught me SO off guard. I was like, WTH?!! Then I researched. It is the beginning of a fictional universe staring them. It’s really about the loss of friendship. The characters in this MV were only ok when together because they were there for each other and helped each other. Their home lives sucked. What we were watching were their lives without each other. If you rewatch the part where they are around the campfire you will see J-Hope pour a bottle of pills into the fire. His friendships helped him stay clean. Or they were for depression and he didn’t need them with his friends around. The petals Jin was holding represent the 6 other members. When they are apart they caught fire, when they were together in his heart they were glowing. This music video is so deep. And is it just me, or is a depressed suicidal Hobi the saddest thing you’ve ever seen?!!

There are SO many videos that are a part of this universe, and lots of videos made by ARMY online explaining it. This was their break out song -the song that really put them on the Korean charts & then first song to win a music show award. And it's the first of the BU songs. Originally, the lyrics were supposed to be I need you, friend but they changed it because friend felt awkward. The lyrics are still heart wrenching in their despair & in how they convey emotional conflict. Perhaps this mv should come with a warning label

This is the beginning of the BU, and if you want to dive into that then the next video would be Prologue: Butterfly. The BU is a lot a content with so much depth to it that it might be overwhelming. If you’re just watching this to react to the song and decide to do the BU later, then I recommend coming back to this song. When this song was released, it was the push BTS needed. They really gained a lot of popularity and attention when it came out. It’s such an emotional song, especially when you know the story behind the video 💜😭

'I need u' and 'run' are my fav bts old songs... You need to check 'Run' because 'run' and 'i need u' are connected! And also, if you want to understand what is going on in this mv you need to read the BTS webtoon Save Me!! Its about time travel, friendship, love, and many other things and it explains all about what is hapening in 'i need u' mv! (because we know its so confuse haha) Basically Jin is going back in time trying to save the bts members and when he fails, he goes back in time and have to start all over again. He tried so many times, and, everytime he goes back, the day starts again exactly the same, so Jin tries to find ways to save all the members without failing. Namjoon works in a gas station and has been arrested because he fought with a rude and rich client who has insulted him, jhope has an illness called narcolepsy so he fall asleep anywhere (we can see in the mv), Jungkook and Suga tried to commit su1c1de many times, V kill his father because he was abusive to him and his sister, Jimin is imprisoned in the hospital by his parents for about 2 years because he has hallucinations and his mother dont let him get out So jin has to save everyone so they can be together and happy And there are more bts mv's related to the Bts universe!!!
