This song is about the heroin addiction and death of Andrew Wood, the frontman for Mother Love Bone. Andrew Wood was close with many grunge bands during that time (including Candlebox) and his tragic death was a harsh blow to them all. Mother Love Bone were a very popular band and were about to hit it big when Andrew died. They would have been huge and their 1 album that was released is excellent. It truly is a tragic story.

There’s a girl I will always consider my sister, not by birth but where you feel close enough to someone to feel like family. And this was always one of her favorite songs. I bought a CD single of it for her as a gift. And the thing is… she was adopted. So once she told me that, I understood why she related to a lyric like “You left me far behind.”

Candlebox emerged from the Seattle scene in the 90's, same as Nirvana... Pearl Jam... Alice In Chains... Soundgarden... Their debut album sold 4x platinum in the US (4 million copies) in 1993 thanks to MTV singles 'You' and 'Far behind'... However, there was a backlash in 1995 when they released their 2nd album 'Lucy'... People accused them of copying the grunge rock sound, so the album sold a half million copies... 3rd album 'Happy pills' sold less, and Candlebox broke up by 2000... They reunited in 2008 and recorded new music, but they were not as popular as before, unfortunately... Currently, only Kevin Martin (vocals) from the original band is still in Candlebox today.

Asia & BJ as others have said this song was written about the singer of the band Mother Love Bone. His name was Andrew Wood and he died of a heroin over dose. This happened right before the grunge scene really exploded. Members of Pearl Jam & Soundgarden formed a tribute called Temple Of The Dog. 2 big songs came from that collabaration - Hunger Strike and Say Hello To Heaven. Sadly just about all the singers from the Seattle grunge scene have passed away. Andrew Wood , Layne Staley , Chris Cornell. R. I. P. to those who are gone.

this song has gotten me though so many rough times when i thought i had no other choice. Although you love endlessly for your loved one weather it be a girlfriend mother etc. addition will take over the love, the life you have for any even yourself. i loove this song so much. i wish everyone could hear this song so many would relate. I hope you listened to this over and over till you get the point, addiction will take the best and most loved people and "put them in the ground". People that don't know addiction will say " its what will put you in the ground" "what you know" for so many know the loss. please listen to more grunge will take you to another level. wish more people understood the struggle the hold drugs have one people. hope you all are well. love and respect. happy new year. oh check out pearl jame they are a 90's band. xoxxo

This song is not about a girl. It's about a friend and local Seattle music legend (Andrew Wood) who succumbed to a heroin overdose before he really hit it big. Basically he would've come up with Pearl Jam if he'd lived and then we probably never would've even heard of Eddie Vedder. There's an entire album dedicated to Andrew Wood called TEMPLE OF THE DOG and it's worth listening to when you get around to it.

I think this song is having people in your life that "love" you but sit by while you struggle. Then you keep them in your life and you go your ways then they struggle and you just dont care that much because they weren't there for you and you didn't know how bad they needed you and feel pain from losing them but it's saying why.

There was a band in the late 80’s/very early 90’s called Mother Love Bone. Their lead singer was a guy named Andrew Wood, who was really good friends with Kevin Martin the lead singer of Candlebox, Andrew wood was suffering from a terrible heroin addiction and sadly would pass away, while he was suffering through his addiction Kevin Martin said somethings to Wood he would later regret saying and this song is basically his apology to Wood, from what I understand.

the song was far behind it's about a drug overdose by a guy named Andrew Wood he was supposed to be the singer with all the members of the band Pearl Jam he died of a drug overdose in 1990 and Kevin Martin the singer for the band Candlebox wrote that song they were friends and maybe there was something else going on between them and everything and everyone in the Seattle seeking to each other and it's basically talking about like we treated each other bad but now you left me far behind and there's nothing I can do about it so if you've lost someone maybe you didn't get along but now they're gone they've left you behind and now you're alone and you have to deal with it
