Karen Carpenter (RIP)...no finer voice in popular music. No studio tricks, no auto-tune... just pure, raw talent. Her singing STILL makes me tear up, and it has ever since I first heard them back in high school in the late 70's. May I suggest "Superstar" next.

She's says not a word about the arrangement, nothing about the vocal harmonies, and zero about what is probably the finest voice of its kind ever, Karen's. She's learnt nothing.

there is no finer, purer voice than Karen Carpenter. You don't just hear her, you feel her, you don't get those emotions with today's music. There's just something about it, and the songs she sings. There ain't no raw pure god given talent like this today. RIP. Yep, Superstar should be next.

They originally recorded this in 1970, and appeared on Ed Sullivan on October 18 of that year. She played drums that particular time. The song was originally a commercial for a bank in Connecticut. They got permission to use it. She considered herself a drummer who sang. John Lennon told her once that he loved her voice, while legendary drummer Buddy Rich said she was his favorite drummer. Buddy was Neil Peart's (Rush) favorite drummer. She's widely regarded as one of the best voices to ever be recorded. Her natural talent was extraordinary. Her brother, Richard, is likewise, very talented, and regarded as a world class arranger. He still plays around the world. If you're going to go through the Carpenter's catalogue, know that they never half did anything. Have a amazing day.

I was in 6th grade when the Carpenters first came out, I liked their music because it was so simple and easy to follow. And of course, the sound of Karen's voice was such a pleasure to listen to. No matter what was wrong, just the sound of her voice, always put things at ease. She had a truly Angelic voice yet, at the time in 6th grade, I wondered back then if her voice would make it in the recording business, and now the Karen Carpenter sound has been recognized as an unmatched, golden standard that is in a category all of its own.

Another drummer who started out playing jazz and then moved to rock music was Ginger Baker. He became famous for forming a group called Cream. The musicians intent was to do it simply as a way to make money. Ginger played the same way in Cream as he did playing jazz. Cream played songs with simple lyrics but only the most skilled musicians can possibly play just like they did. The guitarist Eric Clayton said we were three musicians who could play the lead in a rock back and onstage we were competing with other for the lead, no matter what song we did. He said we were having fun but it sounded horrible to the audience. Here's what Ginger Baker was capable of on drums: Ginger Baker throwback Thursday from the MI vaults kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp_aeKmnf9mWkJI
@dennishindman6402
@dennishindman6402 4 жыл бұрын
Here's how Cream was formed. Jazz at one time was the type of music young people went out to see and hear. That era ended in the 1950's when early stages of rock and roll came along in the 1950's. That's when musical acts such as Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis first appeared in the late 1950's. By that time Jazz was already on its way out for young people. By the late 1960's when the rock band Cream was formed clubs were taking advantage of people who they booked who played Jazz by paying them very little money and when they appeared large crowds would come to see them play. Drummer Ginger Baker stated that several Jazz musicians tried to make their sound more current and the Jazz band that Ginger Baker was somewhat successful. So he then went a little further and formed his own rock band in order to make more money. Rock was one of the hottest types of music at the time and Ginger wanted to make some money so he went looking for musicians very good musicians that could play at his level and yet were also willing to make money playing with him in this new, hip rock band. He said his plan worked. Two of the three musicians were Jazz musicians. The other one was the bass player Jack Bruce. The guitarist was a much younger Eric Clapton who had never played Jazz and was a self taught guitarist from England where the other two were from. He was one of the few rock guitarists who had the ability to keep up. Eric Clapton states now that Jack Bruce taught him everything about playing. Eric said he knew next to nothing compared to what Jack knew. In the last 15 years Eric Clapton remembers the times Cream played before a live audience as three soloists who were competing for the lead on any song. He said from the standpoint of the audience we must have sounded awful at best. To this day Cream is so different from almost any rock band anyone has ever heard that most people don't get it and rate Cream as OK for the time and the doesn't come close to being their top pop act for any decade. Yet those guys could outplay any pop act that I'm aware of that became as big a hit as they were. That was due to two of the members being able to play the much more complex and difficult Jazz music. Eric Clapton was the baby of the group and he had to relearn everything he was known as. Which was a very, very good rock guitarist. Now he describes himself as a Journeyman guitarist. At the time before Cream his nickname for rock was God. To the other bandmates in Creams they thought he was one of the few popular only musicians that had the potential to learn the techniques to play in Cream and to get up to speed to play with the other two.
