Not a collaboration. She was lead singer of Rufus and this put her on the map. Stevie Wonder wrote this song.

Chaka Kahn is not just a singer, she is a force of nature. She is also an activist. A gorgeous voice. I would suggest the Rufus era music. I Feel For You, a song written by Prince specifically for her is another great choice.
@Musicvegan01
@Musicvegan01 4 ай бұрын
Prince didn't write it for Chaka. It was on his 2nd album from 1979, and she remade it in 1984. Prince's version wasn't a single. Rebbie Jackson (sister of The Jackson 5) also had a version in the same year as Chaka, but Rebbie's was an album track, not a single. Prince did later write some songs for Chaka though.

One of the best singers in popular music history. I was 9 years old when I heard this? I was mesmerized. I turn 60 this October. I remain mesmerized. Many great vocal performances. Original, signature, incredible singer. You can place that voice from miles away, and you're probably going to shake your butt, depending on the song. Legend. Rufus was tight, fun, and funky.

My God - I was there for this. I grew up in NYC and my summer day care took us to Central Park for the day. Rufus and Chaka Khan were recording this song in the Park for a Bob Hope special. Rufus is the name of the whole band in which Chaka Khan happens to be the lead singer of, later as she became more popular, they changed the name to Chaka Khan & Rufus; just like Diana Ross & the Supremes etc. It is NOT a duet. It’s her & the whole band.

Yes! As others have already said, this isn't a duet. The group was called "Rufus featuring Chaka Khan". She became their lead singer in 1972. She recorded a solo album in 1978, reunited with Rufus, recorded more solo projects as well as music with the group before finally leaving Rufus in 1983. Chaka has won 10 well- deserved Grammys. So, yes...please check out more of her music! It will be well worth the time. ❤ Here are a few suggestions: "You Got the Love" "Sweet Thing" "Everlasting Love" "Once You Get Started" "I'm Every Woman" Whatcha Gonna Do for Me" "Roll Me Through the Rushes" "Hollywood" "I Feel for You" (by Prince) "Ain't Nobody"

The band faded, but their reputation maintained. She had an average solo career, until the later '80s when she covered Prince's "I Feel For You" (featuring some raps from Melle Mel (the legend from: Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five!) which reinvigorated interest in Miss Chaka. Chaka Khan is a goddess. In the Pantheon of favorite singers of my lifetime. This was my intro to her made me stand up and go whaaaat?!!! Awesome very funky song and performance by the whole band!!! ❤ Id say next by her should be Im Every Woman. Classic.

Chaka Khan dropped outta high school and was handing out free meals to kids when the band, "Rufus" discovered her. At just 19 years old she was the front-woman of the iconic funk-band. Nuff said.

My aunt was her counselor at Calumet High School in Chicago. Chaka wasn't a bad student she just wanted to be a singer. ❤

Introduction song to Chaka Khan was with this group Rufus. Received Grammy award for R & B Vocal Group for this song. My favorite is "You Got The Love". React to that one soon. Thanks. 😎

Wow, my favorite Rob Squad reaction was to Chaka's "I Feel for You" - have replayed it tons of times. Amber was so moving talking about how her father would sing it to her mother. That song was written by Prince, with Stevie Wonder, who loved Chaka's voice, playing harmonica. This one - the group Rufus's first hit (Chaka was its vocalist) - was written by Wonder.
