For some reason, Martina doesn't get played on their channel, I think its because Concrete Angel was hard on Mama. They haven't played Independence Day, yet, or the duet with Bob Seger, Chances Are, an upbeat one they would love, My Baby Loves Me. I wish they would, they are missing out on one of the Queens of Country. Hope it's not because she's from Kansas🙃

@@allenwhitmer8192 makes sense, which is disappointing too, martina has so many more happy and upbeat songs, i just dont want them to miss out. Starting off with Concrete Angel may not have been the best decision...it just wrecks you as a tune....

I just got into country in the 80s. Clint Black, George Strait, Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Skaggs, Alan Jackson…. It was a fun time in country for me, two-steppin’ in the honky-tonks with my future ex-husband. Our second date was to see Dwight play on a stage set up outside of a bar - he was too big to play inside, but barely known yet….

Dwight Yoakam came out in the mid to late 80s. His remake of "Streets of Bakersfield" is so good, he plays it with the original singer Buck Owens. Then "Guitars, Cadillacs" is another good one. No one wore a pair of jeans like Dwight. 😊He's also a really good actor. Johnny Cash called Dwight his favorite modern country artist. He must have said that in the 80s.

Must listen is his duet with his wife Lisa Hartman Black. She is an actress who did several films in the 80s such as Where the boys are 84, Dazzle, and exchange student. She was also on several tv shows such as Knots Landing, Matlock, and Tabitha. They married in 1991. She sings also but was never as popular for it as she was for her acting. There voices blend so well together in this song.

I worked at a newspaper and was sent to cover Clint Black when he did a show for Soldiers at a military base. A couple of things took me by surprise about him. He was very down to earth, and treated everyone with a ton of respect, Keep in mind, I was not just there for the meet and greet, I was with him nearly the whole day. He, and the whole band were great. Oh, and he is one of the funniest people I've ever met!

Surprising story about this song. I was 30 when this song came out and not much into country, more into pop/rock. My mom was into country, and would listen to country stations on the radio. The only country songs I had heard and liked were crossover hits in the 70's & 80's (Behind closed doors, Islands in the stream, etc.). But when I heard this song, it hit deep inside and I bought the single and listened to it many times. Not sure what it was, maybe brought up past-life feelings. But there was something about the song that felt so right.

Perhaps the quintessential 80s country singer is Randy Travis, who led an entire movement that defined the decade until Garth Brooks and a few others came along circa 1989 to bring back some pop influences. You've done at least one of his, but there's a ton waiting for you. Also, how about more Keith Whitley? Maybe the best male country voice of the decade? Those are the two I think of when someone mentions 80s country.

Congratulations on FINALLY completing all the artists of the "Class of '89"... You have now done all 5 of them... Garth Brooks, Allen Jackson, Travis Tritt, and Mary Chapin Carpenter were the other 4 that kicked in the '90s decade... Most artists that entered country music in the '90s were based on the mold of at LEAST one, if not more, of the artists that made up the "Class of '89"... That is how influential they were in the '90s... BTW, Jay... Clint Black plays the HARMONICA too.... Check out his skills in his song, "Put Yourself In My Shoes"... If you want some Glen Campbell, How about a Duet he did in the 80"s with fellow Hall of Famer Mel Tillis (Mel actually sang lead with Glen backing him up) called "Slow Nights"... You have not done Mel your channel yet, BUT.... You have reacted to his daughter, Pam Tillis, and her hit song "Maybe It Was Memphis"... Mel, DESPITE having a stuttering problem when he spoke, still had an incredible singing voice, with no stutter... In fact, sometimes when he would get tongue tied, he would often resort to singing to get his point across... Incredible, and prolific song writer too... Countless artists have had success with Mel's songs... Take, for example, his hit song "Ruby"... It was a hit for both Waylon Jennings AND Kenny Rogers before Mel even recorded the song himself... The song can be easily found on KZbin for all three artists... Also, did I mention Mel had a great CROONER voice as well... He also won CMA Entertainer of the year (1976), beating out the likes of Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Ronnie Milsap, and Willie Nelson for the honor...

Two things to know about Clint Black are that many of his songs and lyrics are very cerebral. Sure, he has songs about drinking, relationships, etc. but he also has very thought-provoking lyrics and topics (such as with We Tell Ourselves) that aren't always easy to figure out the first time you hear them. The other thing is simply that he's a very clever song-writer and uses a lot of puns and wordplay, which I personally love.

I feel like Clint Black is so underrated- I grew up listening to 90s country and I think he was one of the best male vocalists in that genre. I highly recommend "Like the Rain", "We Tell Ourselves", "When My Ship Comes In," "A Good Run of Bad Luck", and especially a duet he did with Wynonna "A Bad Goodbye", and his cover of Desperado is my favorite version of that song.

There's a country song that I had forgotten about until I heard it again the other day. It 's a really good story song. It was written by John Greener but was sang by his wife Kathy Matter who is a good country singer. The name of the song is Where Have You Been. It's about John's grandmother who was in the hospital very sick. You'll have to listen to the song to see how it ends. I don't want to give it away.

I don't mean to be a perfectionist here... but for searching purposes, her name is Kathy Mattea...

I know I mentioned Kathy Mattea's "Where've You Been" to them in an email once, in a list of the country songs that always make me cry. The others were "Love, Me" by Collin Raye and both "Don't Take the Girl" and "One of These Days" by Tim McGraw.

Speaking of Glenn Campbell. He died from “Alzheimer’s disease”. His last song was about that “I’m not going to miss you” It is a very powerful and moving song. It is as powerful as Johnny Cash’s “HURT”

A few years later Clint Black released a song that was sort of a rebuttal to this song. "No Time to Kill" is a phenomenal song with a great message. Amber, I think you will really enjoy it for its country sound and its great message. Oh, and just FYI, Kenny Loggins sings backup vocals on it.

Check out Clint Black's A Better Man. This was his first huge hit that really made his career take off. Also the movie Maverick with Mel Gibson would be a great reaction. Clint Black had a small part acting in the movie. Love you guys! Watch all your videos.
