I grew up on the great music of the 60's-70's. CCR has always been one of my favorites. John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. They don't have a bad song! Back in mid 1980s CCR's version of Heard it Through the Grapevine came on the radio while in the car with my father. Eventhough the tune had been around for 15 years I knew he'd never heard it. I gave him credit for getting 2/3 through it before yelling "aaaaaaahhhhhh" and changing the station.

I like their covers of "Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Good Golly Miss Molly". "Proud Mary" is an original that Ike and Tina Turner had a hit with. Be sure to watch the version of Centerfield where John and 3 of his kids set up at center field in (empty) Dodger Stadium on his 75th birthday and played... you can guess what. Clearly he was having a tremendous amount of fun! I've heard that he has said he loves baseball and wanted very badly to be a baseball player, and he got his wish... he played baseball very badly. So he became a rock star instead. It's my understanding that Centerfield is played at pretty much every major league baseball game.

CCR lead singer, guitarist and songwriter John Fogerty toured recently and I saw him for the first time, despite my having been a CCR fan and buying a number of their records back in the late 1960s. He has a tremendous amount of energy for a 78-year-old man, bouncing all over the stage, so I want to know what kind of vitamins he takes. He was backed up by a band that includes two of his sons. And he's definitely still got the juice. CCR was one of the headliner bands at Woodstock in 1969. Like many young bands of the era, CCR signed a very bad recording and publishing contract, and only recently did John finally get back the rights to his songs after a very long battle. He also got back the guitar he played at Woodstock, and he was practically giddy as he announced those two events from the stage. "I got my baby back! And I got my songs back, and I'm gonna play 'em for you!" Well worth seeing if he comes your way.

This was one of the last songs they recorded together before they broke up, it was written because they were so popular but they were fighting so much amongst themselves. There's a great documentary out about them. John Fogerty, who wrote all the songs, FINALLY won back the rights to his own songs from the recording company after a ridiculously long court battle, at least a decade iirc.

Other hits: Suzie Q, Proud Mary, Up Around the Bend, Heard It Through the Grapevine (cover), Born on the Bayou, Green River, Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Keep On Chooglin', Midnight Special (cover), Good Golly Miss Molly (cover), many others.
