He was a really good actor, too, as well as an amazing singer… Plus, when he was a boy, a snowman came to life & took him to see Santa, from whom he got a blue scarf (with little snowmen on it) as a gift! ⛄️🎅🏻

I was a little girl, 5 or 6, first time I heard this song, sitting on the floor in front of my brother's bedroom, listening to his radio. I cried for poor Major Tom. Yes, Bowie definitely one of the most influential and brilliant pop artists of the 20th and early 21st centuries.

Just a straight up masterpiece. Bowie is the man. He will trip you up every time. If you listen to five songs, you'll get five different Bowies.

Another great artist I grew up with. David Bowie was an English singer-songwriter & actor. He constantly reinvented himself to stay current over nearly 5 decades. His first big hit was "Space Oddity" in 1969. He has had a lot of great songs including "Starman", "Ziggy Stardust", "Rebel Rebel", "Young Americans", "Changes", "Fame", "Golden Years", "Ashes To Ashes", "Under Pressure", Let's Dance", "Modern Love", "China Girl", "Heroes" etc.

Bowie was the first Rock Star of the Space Age and this song predicted the spaced-out, alienated 70s. When you investigate his mind-blowing catalogue, you'll discover he was a genre unto himself.

My favorite Bowie song right here. Unfortunately in the story, Major Tom didn't make it back home, and doesn't sound like he made it back into the space capsule: "Ground control to Major Tom, your circuits dead, there's something wrong! Can you hear me Major Tom? Can you hear me Major Tom? Can you hear me Major Tom? Can you.... Here, am I floating 'round my tin can, far above the moon. Planet earth is blue and there's nothing I can do"

Check out Bowie's "Word on a Wing", a great vocal performance: [Chorus] Lord, I kneel and offer you my word on a wing And I'm trying hard to fit among your scheme of things It's safer than a strange land, but I still care for myself And I don't stand in my own light Oh Lord, Lord, my prayer flies like a word on a wing And I'm trying hard to fit among your scheme of things But it's safer than a strange land, but I still care for myself And I don't stand in my own light Lord, Lord, my prayer flies like a word on a wing My prayer flies like a word on a wing Does my prayer fit in with your scheme of things?

David is a huge influence on music in many genres. Even inspiring a few through his works. Major Tom is actually a returning character in his work, as is his next point of view character Ziggy Stardust. Where Tom is a Astronaut that got stuck in space, Ziggy is an ex rocker turned reporter in our "near future" who makes contact with aliens and tries to save the world. Tom's last appearance/mention is in David's video for Black Star, one of his hits from his last album, that came out about a month before he died. The first video to directly bring Tom back up was David's Ashes to Ashes.

Welcome to David Bowie! It’s a wonderful rabbit hole. He tackled many different genres in his career. If you want to get funky, check out Fame and Station To Station, Golden Years. For pop genius, there’s Life On Mars, Changes…. He was very shy, so he created personas. Ziggy Stardust was his first, and you can check out Starman, Rock & Roll Suicide… then others like Panic In Detroit, Aladdin Sane, Rebel Rebel, and Heroes. He had great collaborations like Let’s Dance with a then-unknown Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar, Young Americans with a then-unknown Luther Vandross on backing vocals. He did Under Pressure with Queen. And don’t sleep on his later stuff. I’m Afraid of Americans, Hallo Spaceboy (check out the live version of that one from his 50th birthday with Foo Fighters backing him). His final album Blackstar is a jazz masterpiece. Have fun!!!!!

Bowie is a great road to travel down, he was to the 1970s what the Beatles were to the 1960s. There are a couple of more songs in the Major Tom saga. Bowie revisits the character in Ashes to Ashes, and you see Major Tom’s final fate in the video for Black Star. Bowie also did a stripped back version that he recorded in 1980 in the style of John Lennon’s plastic ono band. I’d recommend other songs like Station to Station, The Man Who Sold the World, Moonage Daydream, Aladdin Sane, Beauty and the beast, The Heart’s filthy lesson, New Killer Star, and many more…his sound changed from album to album, you’re in for a treat!

I gott into David quite late but some years later he picked up Major Toms story in a song called Ashes to Ashes. I love a lot of his earlier work and some later stuff but not so the material he was producing after 2000. One of my all time favorites is the title track to the album Scary Monters and Super Creeps which very few react to as it was only an album track and I think the b'side to Ashes to Ashes.

"OK DB I hear you" - a bit lame. And then you more or less go along with "no moonlanding theorists". Take a fing stand. No this is not hate, it's simply a disparaging comment about a sad person who's trying so hard to be popular, that he loses all relevance.

Is this how you carry on in normal life. I think people would be forgiven if they thought you were high or drunk. You are showing absolutely no respect to the artistry of David Bowie or the fact that he has passed. You have to listen to great music to truly appreciate it not comment on every line and jabber inanely. Sorry I thought your reaction was ridiculous.
