My Dad, who is no longer here, met Ronnie James Dio in the '90s and to this day I have the photo they took together saved. My Dad would always tell me how down to earth Dio was and how kind he was. When my Dad saw him again in the early 2000s in concert after the show had ended, the first thing he asked my Dad was how's the wife and son doing? What was shocking to my Dad is how he remembered the names, but that's how he was with his fans. It was a person who basically treated you like family. Also, you can truly hear his vowels and you know they're clean with this song.

The same here!!! Met Ronnie three times and during the first concert in the Netherlands we had eye contact while I was belting out on his songs. After the last song he walked ofstage towards me and TALKED to me! The mighty Ronnie! And after a second concert years later he saw me and invite me backstage at the festival: he still knew who I was and the content of our first talk! I’n blessed meeting such a humble and warm personality. Ronnie forever❤

The only thing I did not like was that at the later part of his career, he became 'observantly political'. He said some things at Annie's in Ohio, that simply he needed to stay away from. He didn't and it was working against him. That he had problems with his original guitarist (Vivian Campbell), that was 'well-known' and hurt his battle with Ritchie Blackmore as well. Wendy had a profound and negative influence on him.

There was a pub I used to frequent that played this song once every night. Everyone who used to frequent that pub knew this and knew the lyrics by heart. Anyway, at some point during the evening the intro would start playing and, much to the bemusement of people who were there for the first time, a hush would fall on everyone in the place. People would stop talking mid conversation (which is a feat in and of itself when it comes to a pub) and the people working the bar would stop what they were doing and if someone was ordering a beer they would just hold up their index finger to their lips. Once Dio started singing, the place would erupt and everyone would sing along. Can't think of a better legacy for any artist.

Ronnie James Dio is a rock LEGEND! Before the term 'heavy metal' was coined, there was 'hard rock'. And legions of rock fans were first introduced to RJD when he was in 'Rainbow'. The 2 'rock gods' in Rainbow were Ronnie James Dio and the super neoclassical shredder, Ritchie Blackmore. Blackmore is considered one of the best, top tier rock guitarists ever. To have both Dio and Blackmore in a band was a 'godsend'!

And "Catch the rainbow", he is so smooth on that song. I mean, if someone were to check his range and expression, that song is the song for it. It has airiness and smoothness, on top of all his other qualities. I guess that because it's a ballad, it's not that popular in the US? I have no clue... Blackmore's slide solo on that song is the cherry on top.

My friends and I had the pleasure of meeting, and chatting with Dio a couple of times after shows back in the 80's. One would be taxed to find a more genuine, caring, humble, and respectful person than Ronnie. He made himself accessible and really cared about his fans, whether their individual opinions were good or bad. Hell, he'd question us more than we'd question him. After sharing some of the 'ol "combustible botanicals" with him, he would ask things like did we enjoy the show, and/or if we thought any changes needed to be made. Dude was a gift for all of us to enjoy. RIP Ronnie, you're sorely missed.

Dio wrote this song himself both music and lyrics, i think he did the harmony vocals as well which you asked about. I really think you should react to some live performances from his prime in the 70s and 80s, it really was his element. The live video with Rainbow from Munich in 1977 is great overall, the live video of the song "Heaven and hell" from 1980 with Black Sabbath is a couple of great examples. Dio was also great at singing soft and beautiful which can be heard in the 17 minute version of the song "Catch the rainbow" in the Munich live video i mentioned, its very long with a long guitar solo but its really great.

Dio was born Ronald James Padavona on July 10, 1942, in Cortland, N.Y. He performed in such late-'50s pop groups as Ronnie & The Redcaps and Ronnie Dio & The Prophets before forming Elf in 1967. In 1975 Ritchie Blackmore of the band Deep Purple started a new band called Rainbow and hired Dio to do vocals, then in 1979 he left Rainbow and sang for Black Sabbath after Ozzy got fired by his own band. Heaven and Hell, there is a great song and the entire Mob Rules Album, another of my favorites. You should check out the Mob Rules Album, it's impressive. It's all Dio. Man on the Silver Mountain, that's a Rainbow song, probably the best he ever sang with that particular band. I saw Dio in concert when I was 16 years old in Phoenix, AZ. 12-29-1984 Dio and Dokken Last in Line tour at Phoenix Veteran's Memorial Coliseum. 🤘 It was awesome. The dude could sing, sounded just like the album. Only so damn loud it made your ears ring for days after the show.

Always a great day when some Dio is involved, such a great voice. Rainbow In The Dark should be another one from him to check out, very good. Another really good singer I'd really like to see you analyze is David Coverdale from Whitesnake, Still Of The Night is such an awesome display of his vocal abilities, please do this one

I was bummed when Ronnie left Black Sabbath, completely revitalizing them after Ozzy’s departure, but what a gift with the birth of this eponymous band. To me, this album is still one of the best debut albums, ever. 🤘🏼 And to think this all came after fronting Rainbow, with the incomparable, peerless Ronnie James Dio being the literal face & VOICE of all three iconic bands……and Metal, itself! 🤘🏼 I adore your channel/reactions, Bethany, but you’re just scratching the surface, with him, and I’m sure you’re getting loads of suggestions where to go from here. 🤘🏼 Long Live Ronnie James Dio, Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll. 🤘🏼

The harmonies are probably all him because he had a lot of different musician in studio and on tour at this time but live other musicians sang backup! He had the best live shows of all time, huge stage production and his voice was studio quality live!

Great attention to so many qualities and dynamics he expresses. Below are four amazing live performances that display his variety, texture, stamina, agility and longevity. In 1993 he was 51, yet his voice was still very close to what it used to be in his youth. DIO - Last In Line (Live 1993) - Age 51 (approx) Dio - Don't Talk To Strangers (Live At The Spectrum 1986) - Age 44 (approx) HEAVEN & HELL With DIO - I - Bible Black (Live at Wacken 2009) - Age 67 (approx) the year before he passed away. In this last one, he still displays beautiful clean high registers, gritty textures... the whole package! Once you've been mentally, emotionally and spiritually prepared by the previous songs... you can watch "Rainbow - Mistreated (Live in Munich 1977) HD" 😁 - A ballad. There are many long sustained lines, all sorts of vocal mannerisms, cry-like singing... (I don't know what it's called)... It's out worldly!

I have been fortunate enough to have seen RDJ live many times, from when he was with Rainbow to Black Sabbath and solo. His live performances were always spectacular. He is one of the most, if not the most, iconic singers in any genre. What is amazing is that he never took vocal lessons. He trained at a young age of the trumpet and that is where he learned breath control.

From Stargazer to Holy Diver.. you're in for a hot ride! You're hearing Dio at his best on this album! Edit: Also, you have to listen to heavy metal with your ears only: no video at all since you are missing the imagination it inspires one to have. For us, just looking at you getting in trance is awesome.

Brazilian metal fans, after their reaction to Brazilian metal singer Dom Vasc, playing Amazin grace, are waiting for another reaction from you to a Brazilian metal band. Metal singer Edu Falaschi is a great option. mainly the song "Spread your fire", with the participation of the Orquestra Bachiana Filarmonica, conducted by maestro João Carlos Martins, a pianist with a beautiful story of overcoming.

When I was in junior high and high school, I mostly listened to heavy metal, and Ronnie James Dio was definitely one of my favorites. He had a really great voice. He is the only person credited with vocals on his album "Holy Diver", so most likely that was him doubling his vocal where you heard another voice. Now that you have covered one of his songs from the band Rainbow, the second band he was in, and a song from his fourth band, which he formed and called Dio, a good next selection would be from his stint as lead vocalist for Black Sabbath after Ozzy Osbourne left. I see a lot of people recommending "Sign of the Southern Cross", so I'll throw my support behind that as well. My musical tastes have expanded considerably over the years, and I'm finding I can't get enough of the great range of styles you cover on this channel. It is by far my favorite thing on KZbin. Your enthusiasm and great insights are truly infectious. Whatever you post, I'll be watching. I hope you keep this project going for a very long time!
