After all these years i finally really listened to the lyrics! And fell in love!!! Isn't that something??? Thank you to Disturbed!

He's able to hold a deeper note because he's holding the N, not the preceding E, as he sings the word silence. This is prevalent in a lot of metal singers/songs. I only know that because I heard a vocal coach say it. I'm not that musically smart. Plus, he's a badass.
@jessicamartin1728
@jessicamartin1728 3 жыл бұрын
That's actually not true. He gets more forward resonance by sitting on the N sound but it doesn't extend his breath or range. It's just an artistic choice. And it's an appropriate one because it's like a quiet hum rather than an open "EH" vowel.

I would say that it's more about air pressure and the column of air(power) behind the notes. The quieter, lower tones don't require a ton of air. Those high, floating notes need a full column of air behind them. Power!

This is my number one most favorite song. In the 60s when Simon and Garfunkel began singing this song technology was new. Instead of neighbors and familys getting together and communicating like normal people began becoming glued to their tvs. It was like this song was giving a warning to the people but because technology was so new the song by the original artists tho it was great and a classic for that time period, it lacked power and emphesis and so the warning went unnoticed. Now hear we are years later technology has grown and people don't communicate like they one did. Its hard to carry a conversation with someone plastered to the tv, playstation, computer, and God forbid any of us loose our cell phones. And we can even see this song playing out in our society today. Look at all the protests and rioting and dividing thats going on. People talking truth on both sides of the fence but no one is listening to the others point of view or opinion. Its my way or nothing. And so the insanity of it all continues. We as people stay divided in so many ways. At the end of this song you see the people with the instruments crossing the divide to get the people with song sheets and voices. So they could come together and be one people, be whole. As i said when Simon and Garfunkel sang this it was a warning. When David sang this it was all out rage that no one listened now look where we are today. Makes you wonder where we will be as people a decade from now. Love this song thanks for your review.

David Draiman the lead singer has amazing vocal range. The argument of who did this better Disturbed or Simon and Garfunkles original version does not matter,both are equally beautiful. The live version that Disturbed did on Conan O'Brian was bone chilling. I've seen them live 8 times and they never disappoint. David can hit every note on stage like he's in a recording booth. His pronunciation and diaphragm control is damn near perfect...ya gotta check out more Disturbed...i recommend Down with the sickness, "10,000 fists", phil cooling remake of "Land of confusion","a reason to fight"," Stupify",."hold onto the memories",the "vengeful"one and especially " The Light" great song and video

Whether one sings in a low, middle, or high range it's breath control that allows a singer to hold a note. As air flows up from the lungs and over the vocal chords - pitch is created by the frequency of the chords vibrating at a high or low speed. David Draiman has had extensive vocal training because of his desire to become a Cantor in the Jewish faith - who leads the congregation in song and prayer. He obviously had a change of heart with his career goals...but his gift didn't go to waste. 🥰

David Draiman is a classically trained singer that intentionally held many of notes on N's to add emotion for this song which is a cover for Simon and Garfunkel's original. Yes, you are right that he has a large range as far as registers and/or octaves at his disposal with his voice. The message of the song is absolutely on point and it rings more true today than it did in 1963.

The song is about the inability of people to express themselves to others because of fear or insecurities. They use the images of music in theory, but the song is so much deeper when you understand the sadness of the reality behind it. But you really need to listen to Disturbed's Crunch to really grasp exactly how skilled this cover is. You can go with the classic "Down With The Sickness" & IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND. Yes!!! Which meant, in turn, that when David Draiman one fine day in 2016 invited Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge to sing the song with Disturbed that night in Houston, the harmony part Myles sang had to be reinvented, too. It’s well worth looking up the video to enjoy the result. Myles’s harmony line is quite technically challenging, but it blends amazingly with David’s merged melody to create new harmonies that keep to the spirit of the Simon and Garfunkel original. Myles talked in a different context about analyzing a seemingly complete sonic landscape to identify where sounds can be added for the greatest benefit, and his leaps in this harmony line make me think he must have done that here. Someday I’d love to know how those two managed such a tight performance, seemingly down to their use of vibrato, when they hadn’t sung the song together until the sound check that afternoon (according to Disturbed’s track by track commentary for its album Evolution). Two phenomenal musicians who care more about music than egos made some magic that night.

My Good Friend, This is a cover of the Simon & Garfunkle song released first in 1964 and again in 1966. The inspiration of the song comes from the assassination of President Kennedy in November of 1963. I've read comments stating that Simon & Garfunkle's version was a warning. Disturbed's version is the anger for not heeding the warning. David Draiman is the vocalist. He studied to be a cantor and a rabbi. He is also classically trained. There is another song, besides the many others his band has released, called "Hold Onto Memories." Let's just say that it is amazing. Have a wonderful evening and God bless.

He can hold those low notes for a long time because he holds the consonant instead of the vowel. Instead of "sileeeeeeeence" he says "Silennnnnnnnce" It allows for that low tone and vibrato to be held together like that. It's actually something that's often considered to be "incorrect" by vocal coaches, but it works for him in this song.

The original of Paul Simon I heard when I was under 10, than heard the Gregorian Chant vertian which I also loved but damn Disturb killed it. The grit in his voice is what I love most, that's why I love rock music. Damn going off track with sharing the real meaning of this song. Though it was song from 1957, the lyrics are on point for current times. Basically he is related to social technology, people consumed with there cellphones, 'the neon lights' - billboards and light effects enhanced music recordings and television. No human relationships and socializing. These days it's 100% on point.

One of the key things to watch, is the message of how music brings the world together. The people on the other shore had all the sheet music, the people on his shore had all the instruments.That's what brings them together. Just an awesome message that many may not even see. Also, the line in the song; "People hearing without listening" is awesome as well. How many times do we catch ourselves saying; "Didn't you hear what I just said?", "Weren't you listening to what I said?" People hear without really listening.

There are very few songs that are not only better than the original, but also bring emotion that can bring a person to tears. For me there's 2. There's this 1 (the original being Simon and Garfunkel), and Johnny Cash Hurt, the original being nine inch nails.

So every one that listens to Disturbed, know that We Were Waiting and was not disappointed. If you like his voice, listen to Down with the Sickness and Stupify.

This song is more than just an amazing track. It was originally written and performed by Simon and Garfunkel in 1964 after one of them had a dream that stuck with him. (I believe it was Simon but not sure). It was like a prophecy and a warning the times that are at hand. For example the people talking without speaking could represent texting as well as the part "The people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they'd made" like how everybody is always looking down at their phones. It's also been noted that the differences in the styles of the original and this one are as if the original was told out of concern as warning for us to not let this happen and this one is told in anger because we did not listen.

David (the singer) DOES have an _AMAZING_ Voice... incidentally he can actually activate both sets of vocal cords when he screams... making that trademark, creepy ass tone that Disturbed has most of the time. He basically harmonizes with himself, all in one scream. He was also the soloist for both his Highschool and College Choirs. He's actually a classically trained singer, basically, who went with hard rock and metal.

Great reaction. Could see how it touched you. Here's something that I think you would really enjoy. Here Come the Mummies "Ra Ra Ra" live at 12th and Porter. A bunch of guys from different labels getting together and creating one hell of a band.

Oh I've loved Disturbed since 2002! They also do a version of the 80's song "Land Of Confusion" that was originally done by the Band Geniuses. The original version of the song is awesome. And Disturbed does a kick ass job of covering it. I like that you're reacting to an eclectic variety of musical genres and styles. I have extremely eclectic taste in music and I love seeing others appreciate that too!❤
