Asia, BJ… The Divinyls were one of Australia’s finest ever bands & sadly, Chrissie Amphlett, the lead singer, is no longer with us as she passed away at the age of just 54. This song cracks me up. I went to karaoke night at a local restaurant and a non-English speaking girl sang this song. She missed the concept. As she sang, she touched her face, then her arms. (Throughout the whole song). It had all of us in stiches! I had to go home and touch myself!

Got arrested in Spain protesting butt nekkid one time in the 70s. Saw her do "Good Times" by The Easybeats with Cold Chisel and Michael Hutchence. It was ridiculously good. But Chrissy was so much more than just a rock persona, she also toured in the stage production of The Boy From OZ about Peter Allen. She played his Mother Inlaw, Hollywood legend Judy Garland. Very big shoes to fill, and she nailed it!!

Thanks again for another great reaction! IMHO, this song was meant more as an emotional/spiritual thing than a physical thing. One way of looking at this is that every time she thinks of the person she is so in love with, it puts her more in touch with herself. So just by thinking of that person, she touches herself, if that makes any sense at all. And, that's how they spun it to the regulatory committee to get the song radio airplay at all.

Chrissy Amphlett was one the best rock front person's, man or woman. She could sound like an angel and the devil all in one verse. Along with a great guitar player, Mark McAfee, they wrote many unique and heavy rock songs. I loved the Divinyls and miss them due to the untimely death of Chrissy. Due to the subject matter of this song many people didn't listen to more of this band. Those that knew of the Divinyls before this song knew they flat out rocked. From Song Facts...... This is clearly about masturbation, but there's more to it. In our interview with Billy Steinberg, he said: "What I like about the song is that in spite of the fact that the chorus kind of boldly says that, the verse was much more sort of poetic and kind of meaningful. It says, 'I love myself, I want you to love me, when I feel down I want you above me, I search myself, I want you to find me, I forget myself, I want you to remind me.' Those words I think are very strong and it's not an obvious start to finish jack off song. I like playing with words, and whether it's 'Like a Virgin' or 'I Touch Myself,' I like taking phrases or words that are sort of untapped and find a way to write something meaningful and that has a rebelliousness because really that's what rock's all about. Talking 'bout my generation, you know." I like that!!! :)

I always loved this song, but it and "Bad Touch" by Bloodhound Gang have a special place in my life. I was a slightly dodgy club in London when I saw a gorgeous girl walk in, we made eye contact and looked away. For the next hour or so we'd keep making eye contact and when this song came up, I took my shot. Walked over and asked her to dance and it was one heck of a dance. Then Bad Touch came on and our fates were sealed. 22 years later we're still together and married for the last 20.

Funny reactions! Everyone has the same facial expressions when they first hear this song...a smile along with a bit blushing...Hilarious. This song was in the first Austin Powers movie...the Fembots scene...hahah

RIP Chrissy. BTW after all the hullabaloo was done, some years later the song was used in Australia as a Breast Cancer theme. Sadly Chrissy died after contracting cancer and MS.
