Amphlett died in 2013 of breast cancer and complications from multiple sclerosis. Her contribution to the arts and legacy have been honoured by having a Melbourne central city laneway named "Amphlett Lane" in her honour, complete with a commemorative plaque and two artworks. Amphlett's family and friends and Cancer Council NSW launched the breast cancer awareness project "I Touch Myself" in 2014, as a tribute to Amphlett. A great, great loss.

@@catz4m8z And that was Chrissy Amphlett (R.I.P.) for you, she was just who she was, she talked openly about most things, not getting held back by anyone. She broke down barriers without being a crusader, but by just doing it cause she could see no reason why she shouldn’t. That’s what makes this song so natural and unforced, and so good. She wasn’t trying to be salacious, she was just writing what she felt in a clever way, for an awesome rock song.

This song was released while I was in my teens, and I remember vividly my best friend being so obsessed with the song, she would dance down the street listening to it on her walkman, singing along as loudly as possible! I’d be walking a couple of feet behind trying so hard to bury my face in embarrassment! 🤣🤣 She certainly got some strange looks from other people passing by… and I got glances of sympathy! 🤣🤣 She’s still my best friend, and she still sings along!

I Touch Myself Project Amphlett's family and friends and Cancer Council NSW launched the breast cancer awareness project "I Touch Myself" in 2014, as a tribute to Amphlett. Part of the project included a cover of "I Touch Myself" and features 10 female Australian artists (Olivia Newton John, Megan Washington, Sarah McLeod, Katie Noonan, Sarah Blasko, Suze DeMarchi, Deborah Conway, Kate Ceberano, Little Pattie and Connie Mitchell). The song was released in June 2014 and peaked at number 72 on the ARIA charts.[28] Cancer Council NSW summarised the message of the campaign as "However, detecting breast cancer early is the most important factor in beating this disease. Through this campaign we are encouraging women to get to know their breasts better, to know what is normal for them and to participate in breast screening if they’re in the right age range."[29]

I was next in line behind a lady in Trader Joe's while this song was playing she started singing it, the cashier started singing it then had that awkward moment when they realized what they were singing and looked at each other. Our very own genre of the pub rock was & still is the greatest time for Aussie music. The bands were uniquely Aussie, our own style, our own brand & never being ashamed of being Aussie's which showed in a fuck tonne on patriotic songs like Great Southern Land & Sounds Of Then. Many of our pub bands forgo landing a lucrative international contracts & to make it big in America. The only 2 bands from the pub rock genre to really sell out was Acca Dacca & INXS, they had to turn American to become successful. Others like Chisel, Aussie Crawl, Icehouse, Mondo Rock, Rose Tattoo, Hunters etc etc etc stayed true to being Aussie's & there will never be a better genre or era again

As always love your reactions! This song is so catchy that it gets stuck in my head. You should check out Cyndi Lauper "She Bop".... BOP means "get down with yourself". Also Sophie B Hawkins "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover"...not about getting down with yourself but was a cool song!

I'm laughing already since you said you'd wait & not judge. Back then I wasn't shocked (older adults were) but no more than about Prince (my fave), Madonna, Frankie Goes to Hollywood w/Relax. Prince song Darling Nikki from Purple Rain is the reason warning labels started on albums. I went to many of his concerts over his whole career & when I was underage saw him humping on a bed, wearing lace pants (before the yellow outfit at the awards show) & the neck of his guitar squirting water, but that was then & not later. Shock value then, different shock value now w/artists like Meagan the Stallion & Nikki Minaj. Great Reaction!🤣🤣🤣

This song has a special place in my heart because when I was a box man on a craps table in Vegas we had a new dealer who was a little naive. There was this lovely young singer in the cabaret who took requests from the audience. She would often walk by our table and flirt with the dealers if the game wasnt busy. I told him to ask her if she knew "When I Think About You I Touch Myself." He did exactly that when she came past. The look on her face is something I'll remember for the rest of my life.

I remember this came out around the same era as Natalie Imbruglia’s Torn. It made a stir, to say the least. Little kids were dancing to it a lot - I was one of them. LOL.

Anyone else remember Johnny Carson’s reaction to this title when he was introducing her on his show? 😁He may have been the older generation with traditional manners but he had a great sense of humour about it- when things were not as talked about as today. (Although we were pushing boundaries!).

Jay....You nearly killed me!!!! I was jamming along, having a sip of my soda, when you paused the video and I noticed what you had seen. I'm sure it was due to equal parts shock and laughter that caused me to choke on my soda. LOL. This is one of the things I love about your videos. I've been around as long as this video has, and I've seen it numerous times, but I have never noticed that before. You have natural mindfulness skills that help me see things in a different way (which allows me to re-experience these things all over again). I plan on doing a video about you soon, and how you can demonstrate these mindfulness skills.
