It's a different approach to a bad situation. She worded the song like she was talking to another woman, not a tramp and letting her know that she truly loves her husband so that the other woman will step away. There is an old saying " you can attract more bees with honey, not with vinegar"

Dolly has never shied away from speaking and singing the truth, all the while making you feel good about it. However, there is another female country music icon who would hit you over the head with the truth. Loretta Lynn is a country superstar and legend. Nine (NINE!) of her songs were banned from country music radio in the 1960s. When the birth control pill first came out, she quickly wrote, recorded, and released "The Pill". She kept on shattering the conservative fences of country music with songs that addressed issues like repeated childbirth (One's On the Way", double standards for men and women "Rated X", and the Vietnam War "Dear Uncle Sam". Even with NINE banned songs, she still ranks in the top three of female country artists of all time. #3 is Patsy Cline, #2 is Dolly, #1 is Loretta Lynn.

You said it!I totally agree. You worded that perfectly!I just absolutely adore Dolly. Loretta Lynn is a Kentucky🐎 girl.I'm from the Ky.💙 #1 Loretta Lynn Dolly a close #2.I don't think Loretta ever played guitar until she was already married had 2 children living in Washington State.Correct me if I'm mistaken.

She also said in an interview that there was a little girl in the front row of one her concerts. She had red hair and green eyes. She asked the little girl her name and it was Jolene. I think she combined the two stories, with a little literary creativity and mad this classic song.

#NoLimitNation! 🔥 Dolly is an OG legend! Her first hit was in 1967...54 years ago, and she's still performing! She grew up dirt poor, one of 12 children, with no indoor plumbing. She plays like 14 musical instruments, and wrote "I Will Always Love You," made famous by Whitney Houston. I have seen her in concert and she is also hilarious. Great storyteller. Your next Dolly song should be "Coat of Many Colors." SO inspirational! Be well and be great! 💪🏾👊🏽😎

Beautiful woman inside and out. She came from being dirt poor to being the biggest female country singer in the world and she has never forgotten where she came form or the people in her hometown. Dolly also has a ton of stories. Most of them have a small kernel of truth in them somewhere. She's definitely a character and quite am amazing woman. She's been married to the same man forever and she's explained that she doesn't think her husband has ever cheated on her but, there was this red head at the bank that always flirted with him.... She's also very funny with some great one-liners such as "it takes a lot of time and money to look this trashy." I just love her commitment to her roots and to the poor folks in her hometown that she's helped out for so many years. DollyWorld is a pretty sweet amusement park too. Had a lot of fun there with the kids years ago.

She doesn't need to diss anyone, Dolly is class all around. She is a literal superhero, she saved millions of lives by donating from her pocket to advance the research of the moderna vaccine, she saved a kid from being ran over by a car, she put from her own pocket to avoid workers of Dollywood to be out of jobs and don't even get me started on what she has being doing for decades with her imagination library. The woman is either a modern saint or a goddess incarnate. She's not a national treasure, she is a universal treasure.

She and her husband have been married for years! I don’t know exactly, but I don’t think he ever cheated on her. I think the story goes this bank tell her used to flirt with him and stuff. But Dolly in her way put that woman in her place! Awesome song!

I recently watched a video of Dolly saying she got the idea for this song at a autograph signing. She said the prettiest little red headed girl was in line and her name was Jolene. Dolly said she got inspiration to write the song. Dolly is a storyteller & entertainer, who knows what really inspired Jolene but whatever it was; my ears are glad for it!

Kevin Costner asked Dolly if he could use her song “ I will always love you “ for Whitney Houston in the movie the Bodyguard .. Dolly said hell yeah .. Whitney will make me rich and she was right .. The Bodyguard is still the biggest and highest selling soundtrack to a movie till this day !! Dolly said she heard Whitney singing it on the radio and she had to pull over and weep .. she said it was the most beautiful thing she ever heard .. oh and she would not give it to Elvis because of something to do w her giving up the rights to the song .. she said it was a hard business decision but she couldn’t do that ..

No cheating or fighting went on. Just flurting. The name Jolene is the name of a pretty little girl getting an autograph from Dolly. Dolly loved her name. She put the two together & wrote a great story song. Check out more Dolly & also Loretta Lynn, Donna Fargo, Gail Davies, K.T. Oslin, Holly Dunn. Country Music has many great female singers who know how to write.

Dolly always speaks her mind her heart and soul when she sings and a lot of her songs are about her life. She is still married to the same man since 1966 Carl Dean 57 years and still together. She really is an amazing and beautiful woman, a awesome singer and she came from being dirt poor but never forget who she was or where she came from and that’s what I love about her. Do you want to know why this woman is so successful? She wears truth like a badge of honor. She is NEVER fake. She doesn't play the game. She is genuine all the time, 100% of the time. Now couple that with her kindness. She does for others instead of doing for herself first. If we would ALL do this, the planet would be so much better off. This woman should inspire us all!

I love her song " coat of many colors" also u should check out what she has done for children literacy and help in gatlinburg when fire raged the area... She isn't about all the bs... She's real check out the amusement park "Dollywood" one of the biggest employers and dolly visits often to be with the regular people. She is definitely so much more than just a singer... She's a humanitarian... Entertainer... A hell of a country girl... And quiet the beauty... Little nip and tuck occasionally she's said... But my opinion is she's an angel sent to us!!!! FOR SURE A TRUE LEGEND AND YEP A HECK OF AN AMERICAN TREASURE!!!! PLEASE REACT TO MORE OF HER SONGS!

Boy lol the roots of country music are gospel and gossip, LMAO!!! They have tons of songs like this, from darker ones like "the night the lights went out in Georgia" covered by Reba McIntyre, "what hurts the most" by Rascal Flatts, "church bells"/"blown away" both by Carrie Underwood, "stay" by Sugarland, to the absolutely hilarious such as "as good as I once was" by Toby Keith, "all jacked up" by Gretchen Wilson, "celebrity"/"online"/"alcohol" all funny songs by Brad Paisley (also check out his duet with Dolly called "when I get where I'm going", it's crushingly beautiful), and "she thinks my tractor's sexy" by Kenny Chesney! These are just the tip of the iceberg of country music, so dive right on in!!
