I recently read her autobiography and she stated that this song wasn’t really based on a true story. Made me sad and glad at the same time.
@jewls9697 Жыл бұрын
It's based on a true story that she changes everytime she tells it. She was a little flirty with him & he did pay no attention to her. That was what she has told for years & now, even in this one, she was was laying it on pretty thick! lol

@@jewls9697 but the basic story has stayed the same. She has always said it was a red headed woman working at the bank.

She grew up dirt-poor in the mountains of east Tennessee. You don't mess with those people without paying a price.

Fantastic song. Probably my favourite Dolly Parton song. To think she wrote this AND "I will Always Love You" on the same day! And even though not a fan of Miley Cyrus' usual stuff, her version is really great and that music style would really fit her, more of that please. Also not a coincidence that Dolly is her godmother.

No, this being a true story is just a country & western tall tale she spun. Jolene was actually a waitress at a restaurant they were eating at. Dolly saw her name tag and it said “Jolene”. Dolly had never heard that name before and told her, “I want to use your name in a song.” What people don’t seem to mention about Dolly’s performances is that she is not just singing. She switches back and forth from singing to talking to you, telling you her story. This version of Jolene is a perfect example of that. Go back and watch it. Notice when she is singing and when she is communicating with you. That’s, to me, her most mesmerizing feature. We’re having a conversation and I am caught up in her story.

Dolly is my 2nd favorite artist, after Patsy Cline. Dolly has composed over 5000 songs to date & she's still at it. She is currently working on her first rock album, more on that in a minute.... Even though Dolly is considered a country artist, she has had several cross over songs to rank high on Pop music charts. She has made appearances in several movies, TV shows, etc. over the years. As I said, she's had many cross over songs that made it onto music charts and featured in movies, some of which Dolly starred in herself. One of her first films is called 9 to 5 (it's actually very funny, you should check it out). The movie didn't have a main theme song, so Dolly went in her trailer between filming scenes and wrote "9 to 5", which is still a banger today. I've seen several KZbinrs react to it & they absolutely love it as it is still very relevant today. 😊 Some of Dolly's big hits besides Jolene are: Joshua (her first hit), Coat of many colors, I will always love you (yes, the same one that Whitney Houston covered in 1992), Here you come again, Two doors down, The Bargain store, Islands in the stream (duet with Kenny Rogers & written by The Bee Gees), and my #1 favorite since I was a kid, "Me and little Andy." Break out a box of Kleenex for that one. Recently, Dolly was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Dolly was very humbled by that but tried to decline because she always thought of herself as a country artist. They went ahead with the induction ceremony. So she decided to record her first rock album by teaming up with other music legends such as Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney, Debbie Harry, & Steve Perry to name a few...

This is not the true story!! She has told so many versions of this story! She said the bank teller was just a little flirty but her husband didn't pay the lady any attention! She has a whole different reason for the name Jolene! And it came from a little girl named Jolene who had the Auburn hair & eyes of green & Dolly asked her name she said Jolene & Dolly said that's beautiful! Dolly said watch for it bcuz If I ever do a song called Jolene it'll be about you!! I watch all the interviews & Documentaries!! But it's one that almost everyone loves!! Dolly changes her stories a lot of times just to make it funny! Still Got to Love her!! ❤

A group called White Chapel updated this song and Dolly said she absolutely loves it. You should hear some of Dolly's stories. Like the bear who drank coke or the elderly man who sat down at her and her husband's table 😂

I think that the next song of hers you should listen to is "Shine.". It's a bit different, a cross between bluegrass and country with a touch of gospel, emphasis on the bluegrass. She has a bunch of guest artists playing with her, including a band I've not seen you cover, Nicklecreek. Begin that journey with the song "The Lighthouse's Tale" and "Reasons Why." I always enjoy another dance with Jolene, thank you for revisiting Dolly!

I would love to see your reaction to Sabaton - En livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) live Scandinavium Gothenburg. It is the Swedish version of the song (the Carolus Rex album that the song is from is about a part of Swedish history that I called the era of great power, stormaktstiden in Swedish) it is the Swedish version of the song so be sure that the subtitles are on, I was at the show and all I can say is that you won't regret it.

Tammy Wynette: "Stand by your man" 😁 Dolly Parton: "Jolene", please don't take my man 😢 Loretta Lynn: Back off or else you'll get what's coming next... 😡 "You aint woman enough" and "Fist City" 🤣 This isn't a true story but rather it's an amalgamation of several incidents - the times when other women tried to tempt & seduce Carl, which he always joked about with Dolly. I believe she got the name Jolene from a young fan she had met after one of her shows. Dolly said that the name was so pretty that she might use it in a song, or something like that. Dolly & Carl have a strong faithful marriage without any infidelity or scandals for 56 years & counting...

While you’re on the Dolly Express, I strongly suggest that you listen to her rendition of “Hard Candy Christmas” from the movie soundtrack of “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”. When your life is forced to be changed, what will you do next? That’s the question this song asks and again… she’s having a heart to heart with you.
