Duran Duran were the biggest band in the world in the first half of the 80s. They set the style in dressing, they led the Second British Invasion of America in the early 80s and their videos dominated MTV. They also had the best hairstyles and he best chicks. Genre-wise, they were originally part of the New Wave / New Romantic movement that took-off in the UK in the early 80s. Come Undone is a great song, but it's from their comeback album from 93, usually called The Wedding Album. If you liked this one you should listen to Ordinary World from 93. To see Duran Duran at their peak in the 80s, when they ruled the world, you should check-out Hungry Like the Wolf, Wild Boys, Save a Prayer or Rio. It's also pronounced Doo-ran Doo-ran =)

John Taylor sat deeper in the mix on the "Wedding Album" but he inspired many people to pickup the Bass in an era full of shredding Guitarists. A Bass giant.
@edwardf1032 жыл бұрын
What do you mean John Taylor sat deeper in the mix on the Wedding album?
@PjRjHj2 жыл бұрын
@@edwardf103 That the youthful exuberance of John's front and center earlier work had subsided into less busy, pocket playing. That John was no longer playing his Aria or Kubicki with strong midranges that cut through the mix, a sound that was out of vouge in early 90s production. He was happy to sit back, that he didn't need to keep proving himself. U can still hear his tasteful lines, they aren't "buried" in the mix, just (as I said) deeper, not front and center.
@edwardf1032 жыл бұрын
@@PjRjHj There are several factors for John's bass playing not being as pronounced after Duran's Duran's first few albums. John Taylor himself states that he did not have the confidence in his playing in the 1980 and in the 1990 so it was not about him needing to "prove himself." He, just like the other members, wanted to be noticed and heard on their records. John, for a time, questioned his bass playing abilities as mentioned above. He did not practice and also, in interviews with John, he says his playing was "too busy" back in the early days. He did too much on the songs. His style changed as well. What you hear in the early days is a lot of syncopation in his playing. You don't hear that from him anymore after the early 80s. Syncopated bass playing was prominent during the Disco era and John took that into the New Wave sound of Duran Duran's music. When Duran Duran stopped playing New Wave genre of songs, his style changed along with the next iteration of the band's sound. In a 2015 interview with John titled "Duran Duran's John Taylor: Four Decades of Dance Dominance." Jon D'Auria asked: Those early Duran Duran bass parts were pretty busy. A friend recently told me that he thought I overplayed on the first two albums, and I told him he wasn’t kidding! Those first couple records were like five solo albums put together. I wanted to be the most noticed bass player in the world, and Nick wanted to be the most noticed keyboard player. We were young and arrogant, and we all overplayed a good deal. Have you ever tried to change your style? I went through a period when I felt like I needed to calm down and be less obtrusive, and I followed that idea until the bass became almost invisible. But I learned that you really have to claim your own personal style. I need to be able to do what I was doing in 1981, but I also need to be open to other things. The tendency is that when you get older, you get a little lazy and look for shortcuts, so I make sure I keep exploring. As a side note, John did not play bass on Come Undone.

One of the few early 80s bands that showed amazing staying power - still around today. after being the biggest thing to come out of the UK in the early 80s MTV era. I'm posting this before the premiere. I've been a Duranie for just about 40 years now, since I was 8. "Come Undone" is a great song, especially live back in the day. But I'm always confused about how reactor channels come to this song first. It's in the middle of their careers and for me, it's a weird first impression since this was their "comeback" album. Anyways, my favorite song of all-time and the one I hope I hear right before I die is "Save a Prayer". There are too many that are in my bloodstream to name them all. Suffice it to say the ones that Andy is on are my favorites.

Doo-ran Doo-ran. 😉You guys love 80s? This is your 80s jam band!! These guys pretty much ruled the 80s, but the song you chose for today is a totally different vibe. This is their 93 "comeback" vibe. 40 years creating music, this band has many iterations. I recommend Rio next. Duran Duran is their own genre for the most part. 😁 Early 80s stuff can be stuffed into the new romantic/new wave category, but really these guys just do their own thing. It's probably safe to say pop, but it's DD pop. Also, the female is not a member of the band. DD is known for having a lot of guest vocalists on their tracks or teaming up with other artists. They are also known for their videos, especially in the 80s. The pretty much pioneered what we know today as multimedia and their videos back in the day were more like mini movies. Beautifully shot, exotic locations, and no expense spared. Definitely do official videos when possible with these guys. The only song I recommend audio for is View to a Kill. It's a Bond theme..only one to hit #1 in fact, and the video is distracting to the song even tho it's fun and cute because it revolves around the movie.

Duran Duran was formed in 1978 by Nick Rhodes (keyboard player) and John Taylor (Bass guitar). They were best friends in school and formed their band when the were 16 and 17. What were any of us doing when we were 16 and 17??? By 1980 they had their final line up before making it huge... Roger Taylor on Drums, Andy Taylor on lead guitar, and Simon Le Bon as lead singer. They have made 16 studio albums plus several live albums and are STILL making new music and touring today! In fact, I will be attending their concert THIS AUGUST in Dallas Texas! I can't wait! John Taylor is one of the greatest bass players of all time, in my humble opinion. Duran Duran is a deep, deep rabbit hole of great music... they blended funk, punk, new wave, dance music, and even a little disco, into their unique, one of a kind sound. They were the leading band of what became known as the "Second British Invasion". The "British invasion" happened in the 60's with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Kinks, and other British pop bands that took the U.S. by storm from 1964-1970. The Beatles were called "The Fab Four", Duran Duran were called "The Fab Five". They helped make the 80's music sound the way that we know it now. And later this year, they will FINALLY be inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!!!! It's about time!

Duran Duran is a Pop Band that started with the New Romantic movement in England in the late 1970's and then was categorized as a New Wave band in the early 1980s. Their music evolves and their sound changes. They don't ever sound the same with each album. Come Undone could be considered alternative when it was released because it did not sound mainstream with other top hits of this era in the early 1990s.

There is a series of books that describe the making of classic albums. The series is 33 and 1/3. They’ve done all sorts of artists from Dylan, Nirvana, Ween, Sabbath, Slayer, Pharcyde, Love and many more. They did one book on Duran Duran’s Rio album, and it was very informative. I’m not a huge fan but I grew up with 80s pop and I had a greatest hits album so I picked it up even though I don’t even own the Rio album. But I learned how they came up, how crucial MTV and Duran Duran were to each other, and all sorts of trivia. This song is from the mid 90s after they didn't sing for like 8 years. Go back to the early 80s for the true Duran Duran sound. Like HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF, REFLEX, GIRLS ON FILM.

I grew up in the 80s. Duran Duran was huge back then. This album came out several years after most assumed they were a dead and done 80s band. This and Ordinary World on that comeback album, but I don't think they did anything after this album worth listening to.

It's pronounced Duuraan Duuraan. And they've been together for 42 years. They have had a new album in October 2021 called Future Past. Their music has no genre. There is no genre they haven't done. In fact they even did rap in the 1990's with a cover of White Lines. Please consider doing a video on that song!

They actually had rap in their song New Religion from their Rio album released in 1982.

symbolising the theme of people's lives unravelling. The female vocals are by a lady called Lamya who also had sung with David Bowie, James Brown and had a solo career. Unfortunately, she passed in 2009 in her 30s

80s new wave genre is the most accurate. Although when talking genres, there's always some gray area.

Duran Duran, regardless of release date, sort of has to be New Wave, as we called it, then.
