A lot of what is released today, from the mainstream artists, at least, should not even pass as music. It rarely receives any real input from the artists, because the record labels are too afraid to stray from the established norms for fear that the music will not sell. Consequently, we are stuck in this rut of repetitive and forgettable music.

It's good that you listened to this without the video, to appreciate the sound and the lyrics. It is sooo catchy. I was a teen when this came out, and was wary because they were such a teenage girls' band, but you couldn't help going do-dood de-do-do de-do, to this. But now go watch the video, because that is soooo much fun, and such a quintessentially 80s video and a classic.

You should try The Chauffeur. That song is just hypnotising and the coolest song ever. By the way, it's not just the bassist that was great. Nick Rhoades on the keys and synths was star attraction at the beginning with those really cool sounds. Signature DD sound due to his talents.

I love Duran Duran! This song was absolutely fresh and phenomenal when it came out on MTV. I love the official music video. I'm an old hippy flower child who loved the music from the 70's and early 80's and an official metal head and Ozzy, Randy Rhodes fan and when MTV debuted I was introduced to all kinds of really amazing and talented bands I would not have paid much attention to otherwise. I love this song and I would have loved to see Duran Duran live in concert! Thanks SalvoG!

So that album art was by Patrick Nagel. He was really big in the 80s, his art was everywhere. And then he died unexpectedly and everything by him shot through the roof. I had several of his art prints and I was shocked by what people were willing to pay for them.

I'm sure many here have seen the Rio bass tutorial by John Taylor here on youtube (if not, go after watching Sal! kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6XGfX53fLNgf6s) but there's this deep dive into Nick's synth here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmS1m5WVlpmCoJI It's just humbling, realizing what skill and knowledge goes into a part of this song that I barely even notice (but definitely feel).

And then this came along and a lot of us heavy rock kids were like..... errrrrrr.... hang on... maybe these guys have got something. This is a great track, the whole album is really strong. And this is one of John Taylors great basslines. Very very very under appreciated bass player.
