Elvis recorded this before he divorced Priscilla- not because he was upset over his upcoming divorce (he divorced her, not the other way around), but because he liked it. Although, for the ‘silent majority’ or ‘boomer’ generation, divorce was still considered highly unacceptable and deserving of condemnation in the early 70s.

Elvis recorded this song in 1972 just weeks after he and Priscilla Seperated, Willie did not write it but he did record this song in 1982 so you have it backward. Elvis was the first to make the song Popular. ❤

the first person to record this was brenda lee she had very limited success with it elvis recorded this song in 1972 and made it a huge success he should've won the grammy for it! willie didn't record it till 10 yrs later in 1982 & went on to win a grammy for it still kinda bitter over that one i absolutely love willie but elvis' version is head & shoulders above & superior to his elvis deserved that grammy!
