This is was from a medley he was doing of his (earliest) songs late fifties/early sixties before he went into the army and became a tank commander

Fun reaction -- thanks! For a fun, early version of "Hound Dog," look up on KZbin his live performance of 1956 on the Milton Berle show -- from twelve years before this '68 TV special performance. Gives a sense of the energy he shocked the whole nation with in the mid-1950s. He shows his comic side in that performance, too. --Marie

The songs " I've Got AWoman" and "See See Rider" both give you that rock and roll feel He used them( either or) as his intro songs in Vegas and in concerts. High energy!!

His stand-up session for this '68 special was phenomenal but there is another version of this song which is a bit longer & better -- it begins w-him sitting in the chair & the way he finished that version is absolutely AMAZING, looking more than gorgeous, he's having a real good time, & it's a great, fun finish -- you should take a look at it -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5yYfHiYnp2Bl8U. This was his 1st return to live performing after being away for approx. 9 years between being in the Army from '58-'60 then contracted to do 31 films and he was VERY nervous. Here is a little story that the producer-director of the ''68 Comeback special related which took place in the dressing room right before Elvis was due to go on: Elvis was extremely nervous and he told Binder that he didn't know any of the songs, he forgot all the words, & wasn't going out there, & Binder said, "I don't care if you walk out, just say hello & then walk off, but you ARE going out." And out he came.

Hey, y’all…thanks for the reaction. Here is a video from young Elvis, 1956, singing live tv on The Dorsey Brothers Show, singing “Money Honey,” and “Heartbreak Hotel.” “Heartbreak Hotel” is the first record he cut after signing with RCA and went gold, which made him go national and international . (This isn’t the official studio version obviously, but I’ll give you a little info on how the recording session went. The studio had a hard time picking up Elvis’s vocals and guitar because there was the one mic in front of him, and he kept moving around when he sang. When asked if he could stay still, he said, if I can’t move, I can’t sing it right. So, they re-miced the entire studio. It was also Elvis’s idea to use a hallway to get that distinctive echo. While Elvis didn’t write songs, he did do production and arrangement. He knew the sound he wanted.) Elvis used both black and white songwriters, which is the case here. Money Honey was written by Jesse Stone, and Heartbreak Hotel was written by the team of Mae Boren Axton and Tommy Darden. Money Honey had been covered several times before Elvis did his version, but Heartbreak Hotel is original to Elvis. He's done many different versions of this song. His original is back in 1956. He's done a good version in 1970 with a cool ending. Yes Elvis changed to different styles. He will surprise you all the time. Most artists if not all , Once you've seen one of their performances you have a rough idea of what you're gonna get again. But not with Elvis.
