Elvis was born in desperate poverty and he grew up in a predominantly black neighbourhood.
@stevepomeroy-rockin-pa-realtor29 күн бұрын
Elvis didn’t only see this hunger and poverty firsthand. He was the definition of hunger and poverty. He grew up in a one room shack with no running water and no electricity. His family was so poor that his twin brother who died at birth, was buried in a shoebox because that’s all they had to bury him in. That’s what abject poverty looked like in the Great Depression. He lived in a predominantly black ghetto. His friends were black, and they called the Presleys the poorest in their neighborhood.

Where is Depper? Oh that's right he died more than 2 years ago. You have stolen his identity. Does your good Christian son know and when are you going to tell him? Your office will find out soon.

Elvis is always the best. Born in Tupelo Mississippi and moved to Memphis about at 12 years old. Lived in poorer sections and the projects for a while in Memphis. After he started making money he payed for a playground in the projects where he had lived

Elvis wouldn’t be Elvis if he was born in Seattle. Coming from The South and growing up in a Black church, makes him impossible to recreate. The looks didn’t hurt either.

Where he is from made him. Elvis born in Seattle wouldn’t be the same.

Elvis was born in 1935 in Tupelo Mississippi....this was in the heart of the Great Depression. Elvis' family lived near the black side of Tupelo near a section called Shake Rag. His family was dirt poor, he was born in a small shot gun shack with no indoor plumging or electricity.(a shot gun shack is a house where you can shoot a shot gun from the back door and it will go straight out the front door) In the mid 40s the family moved to Memphis Tn. and they lived in govt housing. He understood what poor was, what prejudice was and he never forgot it.

I believe Elvis was born in Mississippi and lived in a basic shack with a dirt floor.

Elvis was born during the Depression. His Daddy went to jail for writing bad checks when Elvis was about 2... Vernon Presley wrote those bad checks just trying to put food on the table.. Gladys.. Elvis's mother only survived with Elvis with the help of the church.. Elvis grew up in the Ghetto going to Black churches behind his Mom's back I think.. She was going to white church and he was sneaking out and going to black church.. he grew up in poverty and learned his way of singing from his roots. Both white and black.

Elvis was the king of rock and roll but he never did a concert without including a gospel song.❤❤❤❤❤

Did you notice the song never mentions the race of the child? It doesn't matter. The tragedy is still happening. You should watch the interview with Mr. Sam Bell. He was Elvis' childhood friend. Sam's family helped Elvis and his mother with food. But they gave Elvis so much more. At a time when blacks and whites were suppose to stay separated. Elvis was only separated from Sam and his other black friends when it came to school.

Elvis was great in helping the Black community. Right from day 1. He would give practically everything to absolutely anyone,You didn't have to be a part of his group. His cook is on here. A black lady. Elvis bought her a house and a car. just to mention one.

This Song Was First Offered To Sammy Davis jr. But Turned It Down Said He Didn’t Live It But Said Elvis Did. He Grew Up Poor In The South. His Manager Didn’t Want Him To Record The Song But He Did. Elvis Lived In A 2 Room Shack His Father Built. Sang In Black Churches He Did Not See Color Treated Everyone With Kindness and Respect. Born Jan 8 1935 He Never Forgot His Roots. Died August 16 1977 At The Age Of 42.
@vickylong322929 күн бұрын
They trued to give this song to Sammy Davis Jr but he declined it and told them Elvis lived in the getto and he should sing it. Sammy and Elvis were very good friends. Thank you for your great reaction. ❤
@mikematusek423329 күн бұрын
The writer was Mac Davis from Lubbock, Texas. He had friends from the "Wrong" side of the tracks. No one would touch this song Sammy Davis Junior said Give it to Elvis, as he knows the story. Not all Ghettos are or were Black. My Dad was from the Southside of Chicago (37-61).

He took a lot of heat for this stand, but he didn't care he sang what he felt. He was also one of the first bring in black performers and his back up singers. he was told not bring his black singers to his performance in Texas, he said if I they can't come I won't come. He was raised so poor in a Black neighborhood and sang in a black church. He was a Christian and said, I am not the King Jesus Christ is. Thanks for your wonderful reaction.

First reactor I have watched react to this song that didn’t automatically ask “what does Elvis know about the ghetto”? First one to understand without comments that he actually lived this. I subbed for this reason alone. You understood that even though he became a huge star, that he could have actually come from the ghetto, which as fans for decades know, he did!
@Supernova75229 күн бұрын
I agree! First reaction video where the hosts states Elvis must have experienced it first hand. Thank you!!

First song I heard was "Hound Dog" on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1957 ( I think). I was just a child. Elvis was a very poor child in Tupalo, Mississippi. Watch this video: "Elvis and the Black Community" and you will get an understanding of who he was. Elvis was called "The King of Rock and Roll" but he didn't like to be called that as he said the only King is the Lord. Michael Jackson was called "The King of Pop" More Elvis songs: "American Trilogy" ( video 1973 Aloha Concert). "Jailhouse Rock" ( video 1956) "You Gave Me s Mountsin". (1973 Aloha Concert). " Suspicious Minds". (1970 Las Vegas Concert)

This song was actually written by Mac Davis about his own life and he also sings it.

Love me Tender was the first Elvis song. Mac Davis wrote this song and wanted to give it to Sammy Davis Jr, but Sammy said that he never lived it and that he should give it to Elvis. As others have said, Elvis lived in poverty, and he never forgot. This was in 1970 and it is still happening. Also this was performed live, no auto tune, no earpieces just talent.

Thanks for the great reaction to Elvis, singing In the Ghetto be never forgot where he came from, and he would always say After the birth of his Beautiful Lisa Marie who he showered with everything he had, But he always said , What about the little kids in the ghetto , so he gave so much of himself to everyone , And Lisa Marie followed him in the generosity that her Beautiful Daddy always had , Love your trailer and Elvis didn't want to be called the King , That is a name given to him by his billions of fans , He always said, There is only one King , The Lord Jesus Christ , I really appreciate the reaction and I would love you to react to Elvis singing Just Pretend and Bridge Over Trouble

This never fails to bring tears to my eyes. The child is born into an already over large family, that there is barely enough money to feed everyone. Who in their heart can blame him for needing to steal for food. Truth is very, very hurtful, and we should be ashamed we don't help more

Elvis grew up during the Great Depression in very poor circumstances. I highly recommend a video “Elvis & the Black Community” parts 1 & 2. Also: “Baz Luhrman Interview’s Elvis’ childhood friend Sam Bell”. I saw Elvis LIVE in Concert, and he was the best I’ve ever seen- and I saw everybody! First Elvis song I heard was possibly: “All Shook Up” from 1957

I'm pretty sure Mac Davis wrote this song.. don't know why. I don't know how Mac Davis knew the best words to write.. but I do know Elvis was the best singing it.. The first song I remember, btw, of Elvis is probably the day he passed away.. my mom had me and my sister listening to everything and I remember going to bed listening to Are You Lonesome Tonight. This song right here though.. unfortunately, is still happening in 2024.. SAD

@kathleenmayhorne318329 күн бұрын
He didn't only stand up, he fought against his manager to do this. He said it was too important. The costumes were the clothes for his judo, very comfortble, just blinged up. Elvis didn't write this, Mac Davis did. He had comical approach to his music, so he wanted someone else to sing it, to be taken seriously. Problem is this still happens as far as I've been told. When his backup singers were excluded/segregated, he said he wouldn't play without them, he had them come in a limo, and through the front door, just like everybody else. Include them or miss out.

If you are relatively new to Elvis you need to go and watch Elvis and the black community that echo Will never die part 1 and 2 in order to get a better idea of where he came from where he was born who he was as a kid how people looked at him and how they treated him... I think that's where you should really start then you'll understand so much more about his music when you're listening to it. Also look up Memphis Mafia... Those are the men that were around him the most and know him the best...❤

You will see who he was and just how big of a bullseye he had on his forehead, and he took it and stayed strong in his beliefs and aligned with his childhood living in the getto when his father was in prison. All his friends were Black and he spent a lot of time in the revival tent singing and praising while he moved his body the Elvis way!

Martin Luther King, BB King, Fats Domino, Sammy Davis Jr., Little Richard, there are more, but that should be a good start for your research. Also, there is a great documentary about the time he lived in the Tupelo getto. It is by a close friend from those years before the family moved to Memphis. He has great stories of their years together, as well as stories about his mother, Gladys and showing the kind of house and neighborhood that he lived in. There was not a single racist bone in his body, and just so you know, because I think you are much younger than me, without Elvis you would not have hip-hop or rap. Elvis was the artist that paved the way for Motown as well. At a VERY racist time he was able to mix his influences of black R&B and jazz with the top 40 type of sound that appealed to the white kids. Elvis was the most influential musical bridge ever, and I have always been very grateful for that. Any more questions, just hit me up.

What pisses me off is that blacks think that only" blacks lived in poverty,,4 kids in my family and we were dirt poor too!..Only time I got a new pair of shoes or a dress was when my sister outgrew hers,,didn't have any toys,my dad sometimes would find things in a dumpster for us to play with,the street was our playground,,,kidney beans on white bread was often our dinner,,and Santa Clause would 'get lost' and so we missed Christmas!....but our parents loved us,and despite his drinking my dad worked hard and eventually we were able to rise up out of our poverty!....

It starts with the parents and adults as role models, unless they lead by example and teach good work ethics, morals and values the children will often follow the same bad examples and repeat the cycle over and over - and its not just the black race its white and any other ethnicity you choose - its the parents job to do their best to instill a good mindset and ethics to help their kids to better than they did but they often dont so the kids suffer - and today it seems worse than ever and the political system doesnt help either.
