Shock value + Dr. Dre beat + Memorably/simplistic Chorus. This was the formula that brought a TON of eyes on Em when he first came out. Once those eyes got to looking at Em, he came out with his 2nd album and showed the world what he could REALLY do on the mic. And it has only gone upward from there. You can tell listening to this NOW, that this is not the same type of Em that you get today. This is the "young sound" that was more straight-forward with bars and not the double/triple meaning, word bending, vocabulary throwing, scheme crazy, cadence master that we have today. The "skills, talent and knowledge" was always there, even when this was 1st released. But they were NOT "honed and perfected" the way they are now. This was a good "introduction" because it DID cause you to pause and look at Em with a "what the hell" type of response. But once you turned to look at him, he showed you what you had either missed, ignored, or simply didn't know about with his later tracks. It is a good thing to go back and revisit these early tracks from Em every now and then. If for no other reason than to track his career path over the years. But it is also good to revisit because you can see the level of upward mobility to his pen, skills and production as well. Thanks for putting this one out as it really shows that you can come out of the gates with a "what the heck" type of release, but once you get the attention how to really showcase what you can do.
