Man listening to this song again and hearing him say “20 million other white rappers emerge, but no matter how many fish in the sea, it’d be so empty without me” sounds like prophecy. Many did follow but ain’t one of them filled the void that he left after his 10+ dominant run on the charts. Truly a legend!

@n30ng752 жыл бұрын
@Johnathan Smith No one claimed you said he was a legend. So, that statement is out of place. And, making the same positive claim without backing it up, twice? One questions your intellectual aptitude, and your intentions over this conversation. Seems to be building to the fact your posts are nothing, but moot points, and judging from your ending statement, it's because you may have an inferiority complex. Otherwise, why would you bring that up, like we're in a competition?

This won the 2002 MTV video of the year, it's his "protest against haters" song and is full of topical references: This was before KZbin and SoundCloud and things so the only real way for an artist to get popularity to sell albums was through the radio (regulated by the FCC) or MTV, both of which required Eminem to make "clean versions" of his songs (including this one) and Eminem was bitter about the required censorship. There was a senate hearing in 2000 where "concerned citizens" tried to get him cancelled and Lynne Cheney (wife of Dick Cheney, the VP under George W. Bush) testified that Eminem "promotes violence of the most degrading kind against women" Eminem was heavily criticized for being a white rapper and compared by some to Elvis for making money off "black music" Eminem was going to do a collaboration with Limp Bizkit but they chickened out to avoid controversy Moby (techno musician) criticized Eminem's music for being full of insults to a lot of people and groups. Eminem previously mentioned how he didn't like boy-bands and Chris Kirkpatrick (of NSYNC) gave him shit about it. Prince changed his name in 1993 to a symbol that he said meant "love", he changed it back in 2000 I guess when he realized it was stupid, lol The line "f___ you Debbie!" is a reference to his mother who sued him for $10 million dollars. She said it was because he had sung about her without her permission, but many people speculated that she just wanted some of his money now that he was successful. It is crazy to me though how within 20 years (damn this song came out 20 years ago, f--k I'm old, lol) we've gone from "it's nerdy old uptight moms who try and cancel people and saying whatever the f--k you want was the cool thing" to "saying whatever is bad and cancelling is the right way to be", that's baffling and depressing Although there is an ironic wonderful karmic justice that Eminem took all the hate, wrote a song about it, and it became one of his most successful songs - that makes me happy, lol

Well, that’s what happens sometimes. I tried listening to so much music my parents listened to and some of it genuinely slaps, I just keep finding out about more and more artists that my parents look at me with bafflement for because for them it’s so obvious. Eminem took a long break in the last decade and wasn’t on the scene for a long time. It’s only natural that a lot of kids don’t know him... but it only makes it more awesome when you see a new generation thinking the shit you were digging at their age is good. :D

It's a shame that we now have the woke generation undoing the effort of Eminem and others. If Eminem tried to become famous today with the music he put out back then, he never would've made it.
