I want to share a funny story with y'all. When I was growing up our parents told us that everybody's equal and it's a sin to be prejudiced and I know they're right on that. Always had black friends. For some reason I just flow with them better. But one of my friends that was white had come to visit me and I said oh man I'm going to hang out with my bro's and girlfriends and she said oh I want to go. So we get there and there are no white people in sight but I don't know this and I don't realize this. I never see color. Color don't matter we bleed the same we hurt the same we go through turmoil the same. I was taught there ain't no difference. So anyways, I told her to come home and I saw this weird look on her face and I didn't know what it was so I said are you okay and she said yeah. So I was saying hey to everybody and they was coming up to me saying hey and giving me hugs and she, the white friend, had the weirdest look on her face. I said what is wrong with you girl? She said hey Charlene all these people are black we're the only two white people here and she whispered this in my ear. So I look around and I look it everybody and she was right we was the only two white people there but I didn't realize that. She said you told me you was going to see your Bros and girlfriends so I thought you meant we was going to see your real brothers and their girlfriends. I said no these are my Bros and these are my sistas. She wasn't prejudiced she had just lived somewhere that only white people live and I guess she never come into contact with black people, I don't know. One of my Bros looked at her and said we don't even notice that she's the only white one around us when we're all hanging out. She's just one of us. Talking about me. I'll never forget that story as long as I live. And they accept my Southern twine accent cuz I'm a backwoods country girl all the way. Except for music.
