The GOD M.C. FOREVER. amazing show I saw with him and Eric-B, back in 1993, lyrical genius and pioneered the round the corner rhyme scheme and flow....TOP 3 in my opinion.

When he mentioned the "Boogie Down" with those NYC boroughs I think he was just referring to the Bronx and not Boogie Down Productions/BDP the rap group. The Boogie Down is just a nickname for the Bronx. You will sometimes hear people refer to the Bronx as "the boogie down Bronx".

'Know the Ledge' is also a play-on-words of the word 'Knowledge'. Btw, the song was for the soundtrack of the 1992 movie 'Juice' with one of the young actors being Tupac. The irony of Tupac acting in that 1992 movie, was that he hadn't yet really blown up as a rapper as of yet. It wasn't until about a year later in 1993 that Tupac's solo Hip Hop career began to take off.

Monster of a song and another complete masterclass in emceeing by the GOAT. Great reaction. The line “Go Uptown in The Bronx to Boogie Down” is a reference to the Bronx NY in general. It’s called the Boogie Down Bronx as a nod to its status as the birthplace of hip hop. Boogie Down Productions took its name from that.

Yo on this same album (Juice Soundtrack) Big Daddy Kane had a song "Nuff Respect". He and Ra both tried to drop the hardest song on the album. It wasn't a battle but a little friendly competition. Plus I haven't seen ANYONE react to it. Definitely worth a listen to!

Eric B and Rakim is a duo I don't remember listening to when I was younger. I was watching "The Boys" and MM was wearing an Eric B and Rakim shirt. I checked them out and I don't know why I didn't listen to them in the 90s, I'm hooked.

Close… “Boogie Down” was short for “Boogie Down Bronx” which is where “Boogie Down Productions” was from… the Bronx. One of the 5 boroughs of NYC. This is a track made for a movie and is told from the main character’s perspective.

He never said anything about KRS in this song. He said "Boogie Down" meaning Boogie Down Bronx. That's where BDP got their name from.

Know the ledge in this song means KNOWLEDGE. Its a term used by the Nation of Islams 'Five Percent' sect, The Nation of Gods, (righteous Black man, father of all civilization) and Earths,( righteous Black woman, Mother of all civilization) Their teachings are broken down into what they call LESSONS or DEGREES. Rakim is considered as the #1 GOD in rap. FULL STOP. The first set of lessons you get are the SUPREME ALPHABET and the 1 to 10 numerology breakdown. The first number , being 1, is KNOWLEDGE. and actually teaches about knowing the ledge.
