Right! And she was always hanging around odd/high places, with no one noticing or interacting with her. Also, I think she might have passed by cutting her wrists, because of the cloths around each hand and how she looked at them. That might also tie-in with the lyric “I held your hand for all of these years…”

I believe this is a song about Amy Lee's little sister who passed away at a young age. But it is very universal and hits the soul so very hard. A certified masterpiece for sure...
@RonaldCanfield-m2r2 күн бұрын
The song "Hello" from this same album was specifically about her little sister. Not sure if this one was intended to be as well.
@timometsanoja9666Күн бұрын
@RonaldCanfield-m2r well, if you really read and listen to the lyrics on this track, it is more of a sibling, bigger sister, protecting her younger sibling than really about an adult relationship... It is really personal and emotional in any case. A real true ride or die bond between people and that's what it's all about. It could be much like it is with Metallica and James Hetfield. He has poured out his feelings on multiple tracks about his parents and the way he was brought up...

Awesome reaction. This is one of my all-time favorites. It's haunting. Another take I've seen on the meaning of the song is the pain people experience when a loved one struggles with addiction. The people addicts become are often complete strangers from the person they were before addiction, which makes the line, "I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone But though you're still with me, I've been alone all along" very potent.

This was their second hit after "Bring Me To Life". The original version was written by guitarist Ben Moody and Amy Lee when they were 15, in 1996, and rewritten for the 2003 album Fallen. Moody, who wrote the lyrics, has said it's not based on any real experience, just a story about being haunted by the spirit of a departed loved one. For me, this arrangement takes you through the stages of grief, especially with that explosion of anger towards the end, fading into a final acceptance.

Ben Moody wrote the piano and lyrics for the song for Evanescence’s first album, but they didn’t include it. When he told the others he was leaving the band, the sentiment and emotion pushed it back to the forefront of their own radars again, and they gave the rights to use it on the Daredevil soundtrack. Its reception led to a re-record for their then new album, and during the filming of the video, Amy’s voice broke with tears several times and required multiple reshoots. Hearing how the song resonated with people and their own stories of loss both then and now make it the hardest song she’s ever sung, not technically but emotionally (her own words). Having met her some ten years earlier when she was the girlfriend of a guy I knew in Little Rock, I was amazed at the power this then quiet Goth chick had when this song was released, and I still am :)

I don't listen to this kind of music much. I have a classical / folk background, though I listen a bit to most music genres. I first heard of Evanescence when I saw a dancer perform to "My Immortal", got obsessed with the song, bought the "Fallen" album and listened to the whole album obsessively for weeks. I'm old enough to remember when music was released in album form, and the songs on some albums were carefully arranged to create an experience. That seems to me to be how "Fallen" was arranged; the songs are all about different aspects of loss and range from mostly acoustic, as here, to really heavy rock.

Wikipedia-The song's words were originally written by Moody from fiction and the music written by Lee on piano when they were 15, after which Lee added the bridge. The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one, according to MTV. Lee considered it Moody's song as he wrote the lyrics. She contributed "a little bit" to the lyrics, but does not connect with the song as it does not have personal meaning to her.
