I have a photo of myself and Dave Grohl on my wall. Ran into him at a music store in Springfield, VA in 1996. I was playing an electric drum kit. I stopped momentarily and heard a guy say "Those things are pretty cool." I look up and it's fucking Dave Grohl standing there talking to me!!! He was so damn cool. He chatted with me and my brothers for a few. And he took MY drumsticks, sat down and played the fucking drums, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME WITH MY FUCKING STICKS!!!!!!!!!! One of the coolest moments of my life.

Dave Grohl once broke his leg while playing a show, like the first or second song, had his band play some covers while he went to the hospital to get some treatment, went back to the venue about an hour after he broke his leg and then finished the set that was like 2 hours long while a medic helped to keep the leg stabilized. He is an absolute legend and the very definition of a rock star, but he's also super humble and down to earth from what I've seen in interviews and such. The rest of the band are also legends but Dave definitely is the front man. RIP to Taylor Hawkins.

@CrippledMerc
@CrippledMerc Жыл бұрын
As far as I’m aware he didn’t go to the hospital mid-set. I believe he went backstage and the medic put on like an aircast or brace to stabilize it, then he came back out to finish the show while the medic held his ankle in a stable position for the entire rest of the set. They reunited a few years after the event on a talk show I think. Either way, they’re both badasses in their own respects. Dave for finishing the show with a broken ankle, and the medic for holding his foot stable for the entire thing so that no more damage was done.

If this was like 3 or 4 years ago (I could be wrong on that timeline) he had like a throne built for the rest of that tour that held his leg in a good spot and played the shows from it. That was a super fuckin cool show. They did a cover of Bad Moon Rising as a full lunar eclipse was coming up over the mountain directly behind the crowd. Epic show.

I’ve been writing music and touring for 15 years. Foo fighters is one of the most difficult bands to cover and do justice and it’s solely bc of Dave grohl. His intensity is so insane. Then throw in the fact you have to play the guitar part at the same. Dude is the unmatched.

Unfortunately for this band, they lost their drummer Taylor Hawkins last year. Now Taylor was really one of a kind. I've never heard of radio rock. In the 80s the goal for more pop oriented bands was to sell out arenas so the term "arena rock" was invented. Bands like Bon Jovi fit this description. Foo Fighters continues in this vein but the real genre of these bands is just Hard Rock. They continue the tradition of pop oriented hard rock music like AC/DC, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi just with 90s/00s flavor.

"Radio rock" - Dude, the appropriate term is Alt-rock. I don't know if they were ever truly thought of as Grunge; I feel like that label is only there because people saw them as sort of a successor to Nirvana. Definitely grunge-adjacent at least, though.

I was hoping you'd get to the Foos at some point. They have been my favorite band for nearly 30 years. Theirs was the first concert I ever went to as a teenager and my first mosh pit and crowd surfing experience. And I'm not white! 😆Seeing them live is incredible and you should definitely go for it. Of course it won't ever be the same without their drummer Taylor but I'm so happy to see them touring again with Josh Freese and can't wait to see them again. As far as genre goes I'd say they are the definition of hard rock, post grunge born out of 90's alternative music which the lead singer Dave Grohl helped usher in as the drummer of Nirvana. Their catalog is huge but some definite songs to eventually follow this up with would be "All My Life" "Monkey Wrench" "I'll Stick Around" "Run" "My Hero" "Everlong" "Something From Nothing" "Rope" "Best of You" and "Times Like These" That list gives you a wide spread along their history of albums. Looking forward to the next one you give a try to.

I do love seeing someone getting into FF for the first time, it's just so satisfying. The best part is that FF is never derivative. Does Grohl have the best vocals or talent on the guitar or drums? No, but it's a sum of all parts that makes FF legendary. I liked FF for a long time, but never considered myself a fan until i read about Grohl many years later and got to understand who he was as a man. Seriously, read into him some and you'll have a whole different level of respect for who he is. He's been through a lot, but has spent a huge part of his professional career making sure other musicians don't have to struggle like he did. And while I don't have kids myself, reading about how god damned great he is as a father is so good. He won't take shit from others, especially when it affects his kids.

But they make commercial music that has to appeal to millions of people. I would never say either of the two are my favorite artists or represent their genres best qualities, but they are made to sound good; and for the most part, they do that. Perfect comparison. So, I think groups in all genres do this, but it's most noticeable in rock/metal to me. Bands will write singles that are super catchy and appealing on albums which commercially support the rest of the albums more creative work. Essentially like an "advertising song", which would advertise a whole album you'd buy. That probably drifted off with the popularization of streaming apps, but you might notice that in the albums of the 90's/early 2000's.

Their music is rock. It’s accessible. It’s a drummer’s band with roots in punk, grunge, and the Beatles. Their concerts are awesome. Lots of singing along and dancing/bouncing. I saw them in May, and even though they’re recovering from the death of their drummer, Taylor, and Dave’s mom, they put on a phenomenal show. My voice was gone by the end of it.

The genre is called Post Grunge. This is the genre that came after grunge (Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were Grunge). Nickelback were also Post Grunge.

Loving your channel and vibe. I found you based on your reaction to "Killing in the Name of" and have been going through the rest of your stuff. It makes me love some of my music all over again seeing your energy. Thanks for letting us join in this mind expansion. Would love to see you do Living Color's Cult of Personality or Scorpion's Winds of Change.

With Nirvana they were punk/grunge. The Foos are Hard Rock. There’s been a couple punk songs but it’s mainly rock or hard rock. They are touring soon. They will be here in Florida in May, but I can’t go this time. They are so much fun live!

I'm sure this has been noted a bajillion times, but yeah, the singer for this song was the drummer on the 2 Nirvana songs mentioned.

You absolutely DO want to see the Foos live! One of the top 3 shows I've ever seen, maybe number 1, was Foos. When Dave was in the motorized throne when his leg was broke.

I Happened to come across one of your vids while watching reactions of Falling in Reverse and saw you reacted to a lot of the older early to mid 90s grunge/alternative rock and ended up watching almost all of them. I gotta say. Your reactions are fire. I like seeing people get hyped over a medium that expresses so many different themes and emotions. I'll be sure to sub and see whatever else you have cooking up. I would be interested to see you react to Miracle by A Day to Remember considering your stated likes in previous vids. Keep doing what you do!

I love how your movements during the song is what EVERYONE does during this song, doesn't matter who or how many times they have heard this song.

Yes Foo Fighters is very mainstream. They're like that mainstream that even the underground snobs typically respect though. Really good job identifying that from the sound alone!

If you hit up Foo Fighters again, consider "All my life" ...the song as a whole slows down in the verses, but it hits so hard at some moments, it's sooo worth the time.

He's one of the best drummers of all time turned lead! He actually did all the instruments for the first album when putting out his mix tape. He didn't want to be the guy from Nirvana so he wrote foo fighters!
