No, not emo...lol...they are simply modern rock! People talk about how Cobain was a genius, but Grohl goes beyond that. Grohl is the singer, helps write most of their music, and is one of the best drummers in rock music today. Oh, I mention Cobain because he and Grohl are 2 founding members of Nirvana,

Dave Grohl is HEAVILY anti-drug, and the band is active in the anti-drug movement. Hawkins’ death came as a major shock to the band. Grohl has been vocal about his grief and has done several interviews where he spoke very frankly about Cobain and Hawkins and his depression experiences following both deaths.

I have more songs from Foo Fighters on my playlist right now than any other band. Currently at 15. They aren't my #1 favorite band, but you might consider them my favorite since I've never liked 15 songs from any other band this much. I've liked their old songs my whole life. In my opinion, their older songs are good, but their new songs are f###### AMAZING!!! Their best new songs in order for me are: 1. Love Dies Young. First time I heard it was a few months ago in a popular Asian restaurant in Tulsa that is very family-friendly. It's called Roku. 2. Rescued 3. Under You 4. Making A Fire Plus, Dave Grohl is just an all around great dude! I feel like you would love a band called The Killers, so I'm recommending them. They are my favorite band. I'm guessing you also like Flogging Molly as much as I do as well, so that also makes me want to request a very popular band among emo and goth people called My Chemical Romance.

Love the Foo Fighters! Thanks, Diane! Dave Grohl is super talented. More or less taught himself to play guitar and drums, singing came naturally. Besides Foo Fighters and Nirvana, he has done collabs with lotsa others. It's so much fun watching you discover music that I enjoy. Rock On, Irish Girl! Let's Dance!

Definitely not EMO, but it is mature of you to admit you didn't give them a fair shake. They have experimented with so much musically that you can examine their music forever. You should check out an all girl/sister band called The Warning. Their music is along these lines and years ago they did a great cover of this song.

@ieyke 10 ай бұрын
Dave Grohl is the last true rock god. Other musicians are putting on an act. They're trying to seem cool and build a personality, and portray themselves in a certain way. Dave Grohl's not doing any of that. This is just naturally who he is and what he does. He's a super nice, chill, genuine dude who's super charitable and like rolls up to soup kitchens to help and stuff, and he just dresses like a lumberjack or Jesus or lounges around in a t-shirt or whatever, and hangs out with his buds. He was the drummer for Nirvana. He was already part of something legendary before he decided to become his own legend. After the death of Kurt Cobain he went on to found the Foo fighters, and instead of being the drummer he became the guitarist and lead singer, and he's transcended far beyond anything Nirvana ever accomplished. He's happy to be goofy, he knows how to be intense and he knows how to sit there and build the energy in a crowd for like 10 minutes and then make the crowd explode. He's super easy going and rolls with the punches. One time he broke his leg in the middle of a concert, so he just grabbed a chair and he sat there and he played the rest of the concert with a broken leg after they put his leg in a cast. No big deal. So many other musicians put so much effort into trying to rock and maintaining a persona, and Dave Grohl just naturally does it. And other musicians know it. Like if you've ever watched Jack Black's band Tenacious D and their music video for the song 'Tribute', or the Tenacious D movie The Pick Of Destiny, In both cases Dave grohl plays the devil himself, which is a call back to folklore and legends about how The Devil would show up to make deals with musicians and give them their talents in exchange for their souls. So basically Jack Black cast Dave Grohl as effectively the god of music. And the song that you were talking about, 'Learn To Fly', You need to go rewatch that music video, or rather watch it for the first time ever I guess. And there you will see how much of an absolute goober Dave Grohl actually is, because he plays numerous characters in that video, including little girls and stewardesses and the pilot, etc (Jack Black and Kyle G. from Tenacious D are both in that music video too) And even more highly recommended I would say you should go watch 'Everlong'. Which I think is probably pretty universally recognized as their best song. It's kind of got a very different underlying tone and vibe from 'The Pretender'. Where 'The Pretender' is an abrasive challenge, battle cry, and defiance against like political corruption, lies, manipulation, and abuse of power.... .....'Everlong' is dark, smooth, melancholy, somber, wistful, longing.... It's gorgeous. Dave Grohl was also the drummer for The Queens Of The Stone Age at their peak, at THE SAME TIME that he was leading the Foo Fighters. He is also the drummer for Them Crooked Vultures. You should also check out his series of videos where he's having a back and forth drumming contest with a little girl who's an amazing drummer. It's just like a series of KZbin videos they kept sending each other. It was awesome. And then I think she ended up actually playing with the Foo Fighters in the end, at one of their shows. He had her come up and be the drummer for 'Everlong'. The man is just an absolute legend. (FTR The Foo Fighters just recently lost their drummer to drug overdose. RIP)

Okay Diane, I looked back through your videos and it seems you've seen a lot of the American music. I think it's time you were introduced to the music that Rock and Country came from. The Blues. The Blues have birth to our current genres of music and then slipped into the background until a young man from Austin Texas stepped on the stage. His name was Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. For a good introduction, look for a video of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble - Texas Flood, Live at the El Mocombo. Fasten your seat belt and hang on!

I can't hear the lyric "What if I say I'm not like the others" without thinking of Sesame Street. The phrase "Foo Fighter" was also used in an old newspaper comic strip called "Smoky Stover," about a fireman who called himself a "foolish foo fighter" and rode around in a weird little fire engine he called a "Foomobile." It was a truly strange comic, with odd catch phrases like "notary sojac," "scram gravy ain't wavey," and "1506 nix nix." The author claimed "notary sojac" was Gaelic for "Merry Christmas" ("Nodlaig Sodhach" is Irish for "Sooty Christmas," which makes as much sense as anything else in the strip.) I used to think the name "Foo Fighters" was a reference to Smoky Stover. Given Dave Grohl's sense of humor, maybe it was. I really like all those contract riders. The appeal to my sense of the absurd. They remind me of the rider than Van Halen had in his concert contracts that required a bowlful of M&Ms with the brown ones removed. It sounds like he was just being a spoiled brat, but there was a reason for it. Van Halen concerts had a complicated set-up, and they often had trouble with their requirements being ignored. The first thing they'd do when arriving for a concert was look at the bowlful of M&Ms. If there were brown ones, they'd assume the contract hadn't been followed carefully, so they'd have to go over everything to find what else was wrong. Not so crazy or spoiled. I'm glad to hear you like Green Day. They're more punk than emo. They had their first paying gig at a bowling alley in my home town of El Cerrito, CA in 1987. The bowling alley is long gone, replaced by a supermarket. El Cerrito has a couple of other connections to rock history. Three of the four members of CCR went to El Cerrito High School, and the members of Metallica lived briefly in a house in El Cerrito (now known as "The Metallica Mansion" despite its being just an ordinary house). A suggestion: I've noticed that you sometimes don't include the names of the song in your music reaction titles and descriptions. You'd probably get more views if you included them. I know these reactions are all copyright claimed, but more views potentially means more subscribers.

Foo Fighters are a good band to listen to if you need to psych yourself up to face fear. Example like surfing a big set, or if you’re young enough to be playing sports. Also Grohl seems very like-able in real life based on shared music influences and his sense of humor. Several good songs over the years. Good one Diane!

Long time Sub, Never asked for anything, not once, until today. The FF's did continue on after a break, but just 8 days before Taylor's passing, they played a big outdoor gig in Mexico. They chose a popular 3 pc Power trio of all sisters named "THE WARNING", to open up for them. They was extremely kind and supporting of them, and treated them as equals. Sharing the stage lights and full sound system for the 55,000 fans in front of that massive stage, these little Ladies ages 17, 20, & 22 got that massive crowd fired up so well, that the band Muse took notice. When Muse came to Mexico for 4 shows, they asked These gals to be the main supporting act for them as well, in 3 major cites, with even larger crowds. These power rockers didn't disappoint, they melted faces across the country. so much, that Muse took them to Europe to open 9 major shows, and festivals there, including Rock am Ring/Park. They was so well received there, that they are returning April 2024 for a month long 19 show tour, then again for Wacken! Yes, they was in the first group of bands invited there. I would love for you check out one of the two (or both) songs they just played, on the 2023 MTV VMA's. More & Evolve. I know you will love them Diane. 💓

I took a long while to become a fan of them. Went to see a concert and was immediately hooked, they are a very good band, the late Taylor Hawkins was one of the best drummers out there. Grohl is known for his generosity, often invites audience members onstage to participate and has gifted them guitars. There is a video of a tribute concert for Hawkins that is worth watching, Hawkins 16 year old son is also a budding drummer and plays one of the most energetic performances you will ever see.

Great reaction Diane! Foo Fighters have long been one of my favourite bands and this song is my fav from them. Glad you liked it! If I can suggest another band to react to, the band The Warning is a great rock band with music in a similar style to the Foo Fighters. The Warning have opened for the Foo Fighters before in their home country of Mexico and are going on their first full headlining tour of Europe in April. They toured Europe last year doing festivals and opening for various bands including Muse, who invited them to come to England to open for them after hearing them when they opened for Muse in Mexico. The Warning consists of three sisters, Daniella (lead guitar and vocals), Paulina (Drums and vocals), and Alejandra (Bass guitar and backing vocals). They sing mostly in English, but do have a couple of Spanish songs in their repertoire. I'll warn you (pun intended) that they are incredible even though they are still quite young (the youngest sister will turn 19 next month), and they are incredible musicians and song writers. All their songs are good, but try starting off with Dust to Dust, Choke, Animosity, or Survive. The Warning rabbit hole is quite deep. 😀
