Krishna is a spiritual figure in India. George was fascinated with the idea that many roads lead to the same mountaintop and he was equal opportunity about it. It was about the spiritual connection for him.

The Hare Krishna mantra is a sacred Sanskrit verse, recited as a means to cultivate awareness of a higher power and revive God-realization, known as Krishna consciousness. Rooted in the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism, the Hare Krishna mantra is mentioned in the Kali-Santarana Upanishad, and is central to the path of Bhakti Yoga. This is chanted to realize God through meditative practice in this life,

I always felt this song was a unifying mantra ( of sorts ) connecting Indian and Christian traditions.

I don't think he was in a hurry to get to the afterlife, but he was definitely the most spiritual of the four Beatles, and he also got fairly involved with Eastern and Indian spirituality in the later years of The Beatles and in fact that's why you hearing him starting to play the sitar and other Indian instruments on some of those later Beatles songs. I think he's just saying that he really wants to feel deeply connected with whatever higher power there is. Not so much that he's in a hurry to get to the afterlife.

George Harrison was very good friends with Ravi Shankar a sitar player from India. Krishna, Devo, and the others mentioned are Hindu Gods.

If you hear this song very much, it just gets in your brain and it makes you want to sing along with it so much. It just feels so good. George was just such a sweet soul but he also wrote some pretty scathing and sarcastic Beatles songs telling people to wake the fuck up, which I love. Like, Think For Yourself. But in the Beatles, he also wrote some of the world's best-loved love songs from that period, like Something In The Way, and Here Comes The Sun.

I'm realizing as I get older how this kind of repetition and chanting can be so euphoric and healing, and how almost every world religion has some element of it, at least in their ancient tradition

That's a slide guitar. You take a small tube of either metal or glass or really you can even use a beer bottle, laugh, and then you use it with your left hand along with maybe putting some of your free fingers down here and there and then you can just slide it up and down the neck on the strings and it makes that smooth transition between all the frets underneath. I can't remember if you've done Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd but Gary Rossington uses it infamously in the slower first part of the song to great effect. It's beautiful.

George Harrison -- groundbreaking lead guitarist, composer, and conceptualist for the Beatles -- was one of the founding member artists, along with such figures as Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, and Bob Marley, of the multiculturalism and World Music movements, both in his art and personal life (Harrison was married to the strikingly beautiful and formidable Olivia Arias, a Mexican-American immigrant daughter from East LA). In My Sweet Lord, Harrison unites seemingly different musical genres from different cultures and traditions -- folk, gospel, pop, blues/jazz slide guitar, South Asian devotional -- and entwines different religious traditions, uniting "Western" and "Eastern" religious/cultural traditions, to evoke a common humanity. Well, that's pretty hip and "out-there" today, especially in the face of Trump America and the racist Right-wing. But George Harrison did this in 1970 -- FIFTY-THREE years ago--and THAT is just how far ahead, how visionary, how truly woke an artist he was.

He was also married to Pattie Boyd first, whom he met on the set of their first theatrical movie "A Hard Day's Night" she played one of the school girls on the train. They married in 1966 and divorced in 1977.

@@patticrichton1135 : Yes, Patti Boyd inspired both Harrison's all-time Beatles classic, "Something," and Eric Clapton's signature, "Layla." But it is with Olivia Arias with whom Harrison spent the rest of his life, had a child, and found a partner who stood by and guided him through his post-Beatles/Living in the Material World malaise (drink, drugs, promiscuity, relative loss of artistic fire), back into considerable commercial/artistic success (33 1/3, "George Harrison," Cloud Nine, Traveling Wilburys, etc.); and of course was mother to their musically talented, startlingly canny son, Dhani. I would note that while Patti has written a very popular, if somewhat fact-negotiated autobiography, Olivia has by contrast become both a devoted and very canny guardian of George Harrison's profound artistic/cultural legacy (she was a driving force behind, and easily the most shrewd talking head, featured in master director Martin Martin Scorsese's bio series on George Harrison. And that is no mean feat considering the charisma of Macca, the too suaveness of Eric Clapton, and the immensely insightful and poignant Ringo Starr, the most notable of the other onscreen talking heads). We know quite a bit about Patti through the artistry of her two main men in her life (not exactly a feminist achievement by any measure), Harrison and Clapton, and about her witty writing about HERSELF through recollection of her halcyon days relationship between two among the most important rock guitarist of the 1960s-mid-1970s. BY CONTRAST, we learn more of Harrison's art, his struggles, his canon, and his legacy via Olivia's masterful, adroit, and always careful stewardship of Harrison's staggeringly important legacy and enormous estate. We know relatively little about Olivia -- a Mexican-American immigrant's daughter of East LA, a woman who had NONE of the built-in privileges Patti enjoyed -- not out of lack of interest on our part but rather her willfully and naturally enigmatic presence, one that seems very close to that of her late husband. Given Olivia's mix of brains, beauty, and East LA toughness -- she not only saved George's life in the long run but also literally saved him from an insane marauder who invaded their home--leading a family friend , the late, great Tom Petty to quip, and I paraphrase him closely, "pulling a knife on a homegirl from East LA? NOT a smart move." For these reasons and more, I am definitely Team Olivia...

George Harrison was the lead guitar player for the Beatles. You should check out some Beatles tracks. I recommend starting out with the live rooftop version of the song "Don't Let Me Down", which was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney (who were 2 other members of the Beatles). At 2.3 Billion units sold, The Beatles are the biggest selling recording artist of all time. So many great songs. Another great Beatles song to react to (this time written by George Harrison) is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". But if you listen to that one, make sure you listen to the version off of the Beatles "White Album". There are some cover versions floating around that fool some people, and some reactors have reacted to them by mistake. If you don't see a picture from the inside cover of the white album on the video, then you may be listening to a cover version of the song. Here's the links for both songs: Don't Let Me Down: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHTXq56XgZenlbs While My Guitar Gently Weeps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3enmGCmnKpjfs0 Peace

George Harrison was one of the BEATLES, their lead guitarist. This is his first solo record after the Beatles broke up in 1970, Sadly George died from cancer on Nov, 29th, 2001 at the age of 58. He was born on Feb. 25, 1943. There were photos of him on this video during different stages of his life, while one of the Beatles and during his early solo career. I don't think you saw them, because it was during the instrumental breaks when you were playing your broom, with you eyes closed.

One of the biggest loss's from the 70's, is just how the majority of us, believed in God, and it was a given that peace & love came from the belief.....I wish we could go back, with every fiber of my being 💖💖💖 One of George Harrison's quotes when asked about the names of the Lord & God he used in his lyrics of this song, he replied, *“It does not matter what you call Him, just call Him” That quote helped me* ❤ ❤ ❤

If ya have heard of the Beatles {Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and John Lennon }... you have heard of George Harrison. Ya just didn't know it. The Beatles is the only group that I am aware of that all its members went on to have successful solo careers after breaking up. Of the four, Paul had the most success.

Oh my God I freaking love this song! So Krishna is a I guess, sort of religion, a spirituality. I remember back in the 90s I went to a concert on Miami Beach for a band called Dead Can Dance. It was probably one of the most amazing concerts I’ve ever been to, and the reason why I loved it. The most is because there were so many people from different walks of life there and I mean a lot of different people anyway, sitting directly behind me, was about five or six Krishna members. They were dressed in their attire for hair the whole thing it was really cool.
