Yep. I would love to know how he ended up with this photo instead of the real Glenn. I mean, I know there was a movie (and a good one) with Stewart in the lead, but... really??? Before he posts a picture of Andy Kaufmann as Elvis, my viewership ends here...

A lot of the recent re-makes and alternate sources to the original big-band orchestras of this era are pretty tame renditions (as this was) compared to the original recordings done live in the studio or gig. "Swing" music crossed all socio-economic barriers. EVERYBODY danced. A great era in music history in my opinion.

I'm not a big jazz fan and I'm not a child of the 30s either, but I can understand that a lot of modern jazz and also some blues titles refer to this type of music. Today I like this kind of music that big bands play a lot and especially when modern big bands play these old songs - I used to think it was more for the older generation - now I like big bands with songs from Liza Minelli, Frank Sinatra and of course Bert Kaempfert who wrote some of the best songs like "New York-New York" for Frank Sinatra...and some more. Thanks for bringing the history into today. Best wishes @all from hamburg (germany)

That is why there is so much music. Not everyone likes everything. But, the smile on your face as you were listening told me that you didn't hate it. I'm 78 years old and I enjoy seeing todays young people discovering the older music. The music that eventually transitioned into what is listened to today. Music is much more than just drums and guitars played loudly. This music comes from an era where to socialize with your peers you went to dance halls and clubs This is dance music where you got to hold your girlfriend/boyfriend in your arms and be with your friends and hear great music. Thanks for listening!

"In The Mood" was written by Joe Garland in 1938 based on a riff from "Tar Paper Stomp" by Wingy Manone from 1930. Glenn Miller experimented with the arrangement trimming the song from six minutes to four minutes and generating an iconic piece of music in the process. Its peppy uptempo vibe kept American spirits high during WWII. There is a lot going on with the song musically. The arpeggios glam up chord changes evoking the twelve bar blues, while the rhythm still swings like a fox trot even as it strives towards a rock and roll beat still over a decade away. Glenn Miller's best music reminds me of my grandparents generation -- "Moonlight Serenade", "A String of Pearls", "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "Pennsylvania 6-5000", along with "In The Mood". His lesser music is still fun but it reminds me of a 1950's burlesque show too. LOL.

This is the first CD I bought at age 16. I was a jazz trumpeter and French horn player in my youth. This song is ICONIC to all jazz instrumentalists! I've literally played 3 of the 4 trumpet parts in my musical career! The lower parts are actually harder, fingering-wise. 😊

Glen Miller was a commisioned officer in the US Army Air Corp during World War II and toured European battlefields as the Director of the US Army Air Force Band. He was on a flight to a performance when his plane disappeared. The crash site has to this day NEVER been found and Captain Glen Miller as well as everyone else on the plane are still officially designated by the United States Military as "missing in action" (MIA)

Don't worry about the complaints of the incorrect picture where it is Jimmy Stewart dressed up as (including the glasses) and playing Glenn Miller as opposed to Miller himself. This being a Reaction video where you have never heard of Miller before, why would you question the picture's validity. You are providing a valuable service, my young brother, and us old farts who are aware of errors should graciously point them out instead of ridiculing. Let's all take ourselves a bit les seriously.

Just so you know -- that picture is NOT Glenn Miller, it's actor Jimmy Stewart who played Glenn Miller in The Glenn Miller Story (1954). Miller was killed by a combination of mechanical failure, bad weather and/or pilot error over the English Channel in December 1944. According to the British, the Luftwaffe was not involved. Big Band Swing music was building through the 1930s and reached its highest point with the January 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert featuring the Benny Goodman orchestra and others. It was recorded. Give it a listen -- they blew the roof off the place! It's music to Beat the Nazis By!

Glen Miller would go to black jazz clubs and listen to swing music, copy what he heard, tweaked it, and was named to "king of swing."🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Swing was being played 20 years before(black jazz clubs) being introduced to major white audiences. Just like blues, rock and roll, ragtime and gospel.

Watered down blues? White people"s version of jazz? Time for you to update your apps regarding music.. and a few other things. Rock branched off from rock n roll which already had the beat and the energy. Rock also made electric guitars more prominent in the music from the 1960's onward. By the way, I was there to witness that music revolution.

@@PapaEli-pz8ff So you're a CRT(critical race theorist) So let's talk rock, you're trying to tell the world that WHITE PEOPLE didn't burn BLACK ARTISTS records, announce public barn fires over radio stations!!! You're CLAIMING this NEVER HAPPENED!! Rock music was called "n*gger music" PUBLICLY!!! Read a book junior! My parents were from Alabama and Mississippi(born 1922 and 1909) where WHITE KIDS snuck off to the wood shack clubs to her BLACK MUSIC.(whites were not allowed to play like us...in public) That's were swing, rock originated. Even your boy Jerry Lee Lewis spoke of this! How he'd sneak to the back woods and see BLACK piano players playing with their feet(something he put into his act!) @Liz Brown: You teach sister! Water down music is what they played, cause they lack SOUL! World famous saxophonist, Dexter Gordon tells the story of a white boy, who came to one of his shows. Dexter said after his set, the white boy came up to the stage and asked "Mr. Gordon...Mr.Gordon, what notes were you playing." Dexter replied, "You play," "Yes" he said. Dexter asked, "Do you own a saxophone" "Yes" he said to that...Well, Dexter said, "The same notes that are my saxophone, are on yours!" With that, Dexter walked off the stage! The moral of the story is white people have long history of stealing our music, tweaking it, then calling it theirs. How in the world is Benny Goodman, the "king of swing" when Duke, Count and Cab where doing it 20 years before?
