Not just a great piece of music by Louis Prima, but absolute flawless execution by the band.

I was driving my grand daughter home from high school marching band practice one night a few years ago. She was listening to her iPhone with earbuds. I asked what she was listening to and told her she could pipe it into the truck's audio. It was THIS! OMG at that point, I knew I was raising her RIGHT! lol

Young brother, your reaction to "Sing, Sing, Sing" has finally proven my point - nobody, NOBODY, can sit still while listening to this track! My wife and I are baby boomers and weren't born when these songs were popular, but we absolutely love the Big Band Era. Check out Glenn Miller's "In the Mood", Tommy Dorsey's "Yes, Indeed", or Count Basie's "Jumping' At The Woodside".

I'm a baby boomer, too and I grew up listening to my mom's old big band and jump blues 78s and my big sister's rock'n'roll and rhythm and blues 45s.

This was my parents' music but I've always loved Big Band. Benny Goodman was a highly respected musician and bandleader, He was invited to bring his music to Carnegie Hall, which only featured classical musicians until then. The band members were very nervous and even Goodman was unsure, then Gene Krupa started the drum beat you hear at the beginning. When they were finished there was a moment of silence then the crowd went crazy. i've often thought it sort of led to rock and roll just a few years later. The white bands used to go up yo Harlem and jam with the black musicians after hours, but they didn't appear on stage with each other. Benny Goodman also had a small quartet and one night he brought the other three out onto the stage, including a vibraphone player. That vibe player was Lionel Hampton.

Of course this song is familiar to you! How can it not be? It has only been featured in countless movies/commercials over the many decades that have passed since it was first played. I hope that you'll also consider checking out Duke Ellington. "Take The A Train" is a good Ellington piece to start with.

Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller are my favorites of the swing era. Gene Krupa on the drums! That's all good.

This is the Benny Goodman Orchestra. It was part of the Big Band era. I love the faster paced songs from this time. The bands also started to feature singers that became very successful in their own right, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, and a lot of others (particularly women) with fantastic voices.

I'm glad you heard the whole song. There's a live-on-TV version that's 'clipped' for time and doesn't do the song justice. Benny Goodman and his band recorded this in 1937. It was originally supposed to be three minutes long (to fit on one side of a 78 record) but the band liked the drum solos and extended it to fill both sides of a record. Great performance!

Song has been in many commercials and movies (Casino and the Sopranos comes to mind) Orginal version by Louis Prima but Benny made it his. His band was full of top notch players who could play off eachother. Great reaction as always man!

"Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)" was written by Louis Prima in 1936. Benny Goodman shortened the title to just "Sing Sing Sing" in 1937 and made the song iconic. Gene Krupa plays the drums on his version. He inspired generations of drummers. Benny Goodman is an American musical legend. Numerous artists recorded with him, including Billie Holiday, Coleman Hawkins, and Franny Beecher -- lead guitarist for Bill Haley & The Comets. When you're ready for more like that check out Benny Goodman "Sing Me a Swing Song (And Let Me Dance)", Artie Shaw "Begin the Beguine", Fletcher Henderson "King Porter Stomp", Charlie Barnet "Lumby", Duke Ellington "One O'Clock Jump", Betty Hutton "The Jitterbug", and Lionel Hampton "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing" among many others.

Recommend you watch a video or two of the bands from then to get an idea of all the band sections that are highlighted during the song. They were always arranged ahead of time (often by the band leader) and perfected during rehearsals.

Great to see the wonderful music from my dad's generation being popularized. on channels like yours. Too many young folks today seem dead set against listening to anything but 'rap" or whatever is on the current charts. Benny Goodman was actually trained as a classical musician (check out his work on Mozart's Clarinet Concerto). And all of his bandsmen could read music, and many moonlighted in classical orchestras. Try Glen Miller next. Goodman and Miller were the "sound" of the 1940's and the World War II Era. For thousands of guys on the front lines, this could have been the last music they ever heard before they went into battle, and never returned.

Yep. Good music is good music, no matter what time period, genre, label or whatever. This features the great Gene Krupa on drums. He was one of the first drummers to take the drums from being a rhythm keeping background instrument to being an instrument/musician worthy of leading the band.

Loved this reaction JJ. This was part of my dad's music collection and I can remember as a teenager it sounded so dated to me. Well, I guess if you live long enough you'll eventually learn how to appreciate your parents' music era. Definitely a musical treat - thanks!

Great outside-the-box recommendation. You couldn’t play with Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, or any of the prominent big band and jazz orchestras of that era unless you were a top flight musician.

The drummer for this song was Gene Krupa. Look him up. Here's the type of dancing they used to do to this music. It's the closest I've seen with modern dancers doing hte Lindy Hop and Swing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioCzhHiKd7qarLM
