Gorillaz has always been an animated band (except for life performances.) Singer - 2-D Male guitarist - Murdoc Female guitarist - Noodle Drummer - Russel 2 white British men are the genius behind my favourite band ever. Damon Albarn does the vocals of 2-D. Another man does the animation and they feature a lot of guest stars.

A lot of other people have explained the mechanics of what Gorillaz _is_ I think the best way to think of it is they're not a band, they're a "music project". Its all over the board with a litany of people contributing as needed to fit the vibe and tone of each particular track.

Gorillaz are... complicated. They are the worlds first "virtual" band, a band that doesn't exist, a lead singers side-gig, and possibly the single largest musical collaboration in music history. Perhaps best regarded as a "Concept Band", where their songs and albums can both stand as individual pieces, while simultaneously being part of a continuity and story. Like I said, it's complicated...

damon albarn is huge on collaboration for gorillaz. their discography is plentiful with features from lots of different genres from gospel, dub, hip-hop, classic and underground rock. its a little corny to say but ive always felt theyve had their own genre!

The band is mix race. Two white guys who are British even if Murdoc is slowly turns green, Noodle is the Asian, and Russel the African American.

(Doing my normal drifting around reactors, checking out people experiencing this for the first time.....) So, the band is the singer (David Albarn - used to sing in a BritPop group by the name of Blur) and the animator (can never remember his name, but he did the artwork for a comic series called Tank Girl) - a lot of the songs have guest artists, in this case, De La Soul, who were one of the trailblazers of the rap/hip-hop scene. Other tracks of Gorrilaz have different rappers and different musicians on them - I'd suggest Clint Eastwood as the next one to check out. The band are... virtual - they originally only existed as cartoons, with even their concerts being the cartoons with session musicians playing the instruments live on stage. As to what type of music it is? Normally, I'd file this under Alternative, simply because there's almost no-one else in the music scene like Gorillaz... And for a track that's over 20 years old now it still feels as fresh today as it did when it first came out.....

nah the rapper is a feature. Gorrillaz do indie music i believe. but they mix it up a lot. they got some mad feautures from different cultures which is great. they did one with popcaan from jamaica( im from the caribbean, south america exactly). they make vybes not music. on a different note aerica is fucked up. why were you so happy to see a black guy. lmao thats some really fucked up psychological shit. im mixed(black, white, amerindian, and east indian) and im from the caribean where racism exists but damn its fucked up how it affects psycho-social dynamics in interactions. back to the gorillaz. their music just makes you happy or hyped. check out saturn bars ft popcaan garage palace ft little simz humility with jack black or the more popular songs clint eastwood dare

I have to recommend Clint Eastwood and Dirty Harry. They're both classic Gorillaz songs. I've been a fan of Gorillaz for 10 years. Also on your own time you should check out their self titled debut album Gorillaz and Demon Days from beginning to end, especially Demon Days. That's all you need to hear in order to get hooked or not.
