Wow, such warm and rich music paired with some sad sobering lyrics. The glorious vocals and sounds win every time... Thanks for watching! ⛄

Wonderfully produced! You picked the correct version! Ian Anderson did a personal appearance with Greg in a glorious church setting. They were backed up by a beautiful choir. Fabulous! Look it up.

Beautiful song. I have bought Christmas as well. We all have. Just have balance, right? Horns, bells, orchestra and the crackling of your fire. Chef's Kiss!!

An iconic Christmas song that I’ve always thought of as an anti-Christmas song. You nailed it. The fantasy Christmas’ of youth, recalled through the jaded eyes of the adult. It is sad, but so beautiful. It stands the test of time.

This was Greg's solo version released as a single. When ELP did it later, they dropped the choir and Keith Emerson did a big keyboard ending.

Wonderful reaction. Such an overwhelmingly beautiful piece. Check out the official video Greg recorded in the Holy Land in the sand with real live Bedouins and the caves where the Dead Sea scrolls were found. It was hotter than hell, and they had to drop him by helicopter into the cave. It was genuinely dangerous. He also recounted that the Bedouins were due for the shoot, and he watched out over the dunes for them. They were nowhere in sight. One of the people he was waiting with said they snaked between the dunes where it was cooler, so they were undetectable until they were right upon them. It was quite the experience. BTW, that's Prokofiev between verses, recommended by Keith Emerson.

I believe this is my favorite Christmas song from any rock musician. Well, you can’t possibly go wrong with the greatest voice by any front man. And this version is even more inspirational than the one off the Works volume 2 album. Greg was truly special. May he RIP.

I remember seeing the video for this song way back when it came out on TV it may have been on the Midnight Special which was rare since they only did live acts. If this was 75 then it would be only two years later that I would see ELP live touring on their "Works vol.1" album.

Ah great stuff one if my favourite Christmas songs it's uo there with Father Christmas by The Kinks, Stop The Cavalry by Jona Lewie, Green Grows The Holly by Calexico, December Will be Magic Again by Kate Bush and God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman by The Barenaked Ladies

Very informative I have found not many people are aware of the 2002 version of the song, I was impressed you had researched it. The record itself became my favorite the first time I heard it and it remains my favorite nearly fifty years later, I play it every month of the year. The record started life as an anti Vietnam war record in 1974 but by the time it was released in 1975 it had become an anti commercialization of Christmas record, but in an interview in 1975 Greg Lake indicated that he wanted the anti war reference included hence the end of the video showing war scenes.

Thank you very much, Brandon! [NB: From one LAKE to another, you will allow me to take advantage of the opportunity for you (who appreciate keyboards, vocal games and harmonies, dubbed, the choir effect) to suggest listening to the British-German rock band called LAKE (another unjustly forgotten group) and more particularly from their first album (eponymous) released in 1976. On this album, you will find three gem songs and earworms: 1. “Key To The Rhyme” 2. “Do I Love You” 3. “Time Bomb” ]

This is such a great song. But it's one of those songs which is enhanced by the video: in the end, we see scenes of warfare that just emphasises the "heaven or he'll" line. Remember, fifty years later, as we enjoy our glass of sherry and mince pies, people in the Holy land are being bombed back to the stone age
