Slash's solo here is one of the most heartfelt and melodic guitar solos ever. playing is one thing , but writing it and performing it with this feel is a whole other thing most can't do. That is why Slash is one of the most important guitar players in the last 30 plus years.

Agreed! Slash is a great feel player. He's smooth about it too with a sort of Ace Frehley swagger while he plays. I find Slash to be one of my favorites who can play a little bit of every style and still have it be his sound.

This song is also known, not only for Slash's solo, but the way the camera kept flying past him... remember, this is before drones. They got a friggin' helicopter to keep swooping him as he played. (Hence the hair going everywhere). It was like the first time anyone had done that for a guitar solo in a music video.

I've heard him in interviews say he truly thought he was gonna die the day that was filmed the way the helicopter was dive bombing extremely close to him. Slash being Slash wasn't freaked out...said he remembered thinking well, what would be would be (I paraphrased).

There is a scene in the video that shows a gun store. When she is in the coffin, look carefully and half the coffin is a mirror reflecting her face. Because of the self inflicted gunshot, she otherwise, could not have an open casket funeral. It’s a must rewatch. Also, remember there are no drones back there and Slash’s solo in the desert is filmed with helicopter. We had never scene anything like that before. It’s truly a masterpiece song and video. ❤️

My mom passed away in 2016... and this was one of her favorite songs. She was a local "rocker" for years. Just meaning she went to a lot of local shows and people knew her. A local radio station gave her a very heartfelt tribute and played this song. Makes me tear up every damn time. When the solo starts, I can't help but completely bawl. Rest in paradise Momma. Thank you homies. Greetings from Harrisburg.

If you watch the video again, pay close attention to the lyrics and her facial expressions. She was struggling with depression. You can even see when she gets into the car after the wedding, she's so depressed looking. She committed suicide (via gun to the head), which is why they used a mirror on half of her face in the casket at the funeral. Sad stuff. 😔 EPIC song and video.

Our parents raised us with iron fist and punishment. Every day they instilled within us responsibility, accountability, and actions. We had the best music. We were the youngest to survive on our own. We had the music to help overcome so much growing up, but I think as we get older we realize what hell we went through but it made a stronger and better in the long one. Music like this could never be copied or replayed a thousand times like it was back of the day.

For real. And we were the original “latchkey” kids taking ourselves to school and back home, feeding ourselves after school, riding our bikes and out playing with our friends in the neighborhood until dark. We were raised learning to take care of ourselves from the time we were in grade school. We were the first generation to adopt personal technology, mobile phones, computers, internet, as well as the last generation to know what life was like before all that (it was much better socially). When we die off, there will be no one left to remember what it was like to truly connect with the world around us without the barrier of a screen between us all.

Her death is representative of the idea things don't always work out and nothing lasts forever. It's symbolism that she died. He was happy af and then tragedy struck. Lyrics: "Nothing lasts forever - even cold November rain..." His bride is a metaphor for things begin and end -- its what we do between that counts.

If you notice when they were all shown "happy" it was from his point of view. He was happy so he thought they were happy. He walked by the gun store. Gave her the wedding he thought would make her happy, but it wasn't enough. She used a 🔫 and committed suicide on their wedding day; that is why it was in the same church and why she buried in her wedding dress. The bride in the video was Axel's gf at the time. Slash hated the song, but grew to appreciate the genius of it. I would recommend "Sweet Child of Mine" next.

@Spicy Doughnut I'm saying to the mainstream MTV rolling stone general fans grunge was played & written about ad nauseum. Guns n roses in 91 to 93 were the only band from the 80s that were still played round the clock & written about. Metallica was pure heavy metal. Of course I understand that the other hair type bands survived & made it w/ a huge loyal fan base well after. Grunge was totally dead by 94. I was in junior high at the end anyway. It came in the industry pushed it to get every dime out of it & then it exhausted itself to be finished. I'm only saying those 3 years it was marketed like crazy. The look as well. The grunge look the doc martens chuck Taylor's flannel shirts & ripped jeans & grandma sweaters was everywhere. I look back at me & my friends wearing that stuff & it's dated & funny to look at. I liked some of the songs & it's part of that time period looking back forever & it was ruined. I also thought Kurt Cobain on the cover of rolling stone wearing a t shirt saying " corporate magazines still suck " was not exactly taking a stand when u r still posing for the cover anyway. Ur still using the magazine to schill ur music. I do believe he didn't kill himself & really did hate the whole music popularity scene & having to be a schill & that's exactly what he wrote in his " suicide letter " he was saying he was leaving music not life. It was only the obviously copied 4 last lines written by his wife that hr was divorcing that made it seem like a suicide note. That's obviously a whole other matter. Basically when Kurt died grunge was already over. The post grunge Era just spawned a lot of little bands w/ a couple hits 3rd eye blind , live come to mind. Than the 00s came & music declined. But absolutely the 80s bands can still pack a house not even just loyal fans from then but new ones. Guns n roses my only point was they seemed to be the only band allowed to be " cool" & get the heavy rotation on radio & on MTV. I wasn't saying the other 80s bands like skid row firehouse etc didnt die to their fans they just weren't considered " fresh & new "

My uncles Georges favorite band, and favorite song. He died in 1998 at age 26. I was 12. He was so fucking cool man, and he got all the girls. I am 38 years old, He was just a boy. I have lived 12 more years on this Earth than he did. But he made his mark. This ones for you Uncle George......You showed me what being cool was all about, not being mean or a bully ( but he could throw hands if he had too), but by being funny and charming, I think of you often. And I maybe one day, if what they is true, I'll get to see you, grandmom, mommom, Uncle Eddie, uncle Bubba, Cindy, Poppop again.. And we can be the family we never got to be on this planet.....I hope all my lost pets will be there. Casey and Shanty, Bandit, Frankie the ferret, Aiko the Cockteil, and my babies, my cats Mann, Moose, Lady, Espy Buht and my Meep Doodle. Im fucking crying now. Cherish your people and pets folks, You never know. RIP. I love each and every one of you.

If you look closely in the video, the woman's face is half-covered by a mirror fit to the contours of her face, which hides half her head but makes it seem it's whole. The story goes that Axl is portraying a rock star who is trying to deal with the fact that the woman he loves committed suicide over his repeated infidelity. You can hear the heart-wrenching sound his heart is making as he walked down the same aisle he married her on, at 14:15. The whole thing wasn't a dream, he was waking from a tormented dream about what happened. The nightmare was his reality.

Interesting. I have read 7 GnR related books and have several documentaries, including "the making of" for this video trilogy. I have always read that he killed her (he walks by the gun store as HEAVY foreshadowing. Half her face is covered, well because...). She didn't love him, she was unfaithful, and he felt crushed by pain and trapped. Axl says on the making of videos: " 'November Rain' is a song about not wanting to be in a state of having to deal with unrequited love. 'Estranged' is acknowledging it and being there and having to figure out what the fuck to do…" This heavily implies that SHE was the problem. The video implies that his character ended it in the most final of ways, and is living with the negative fallout from such a complicated and dark and tragic scenario.
@cessxiii
@cessxiii 2 жыл бұрын
for those who may not know, "unrequited" means unreturned love, unshared love, uneven love. You love them, they don't love you back.. At least not as much.
@celticlass8573
@celticlass8573 2 жыл бұрын
@@cessxiii But could the unrequited love not have been hers? Why could the problem not have been that he doesn't love her as she loves him? Then the "most final of ways" would be her suicide, not him killing her.

First of all, Slash was something else. Second, I think this is one of the most expensive rock music videos made. Third, it stayed on the top 10 charts for a very long time. Fourth, I believe the story of the video was based off another song. The bride ended up killing herself because the groom kept going outside the marriage. It was something along those lines. So, he is sitting with the guilt of her death. Fifth, so happy you guys are doing rock songs. Keep it up! 🤘

For us who have grown up in the generation where we had to be accountable, we had to be respectful and we had to deal with our actions. Our parents ensured that we did that with an iron fist and a consequences were dealt with immediately. I think our childhood eventually got the rest of us as we got old enough to realize it. Trauma found us eventually. We just try and like hell to keep fighting mental illness, childhood trauma and everything else went with it. We lived the hardest toughest times. The song title is another hint. Cheers guys, as long as it is, I can listen to this over & over again, all day! This song is a perfect metaphor for Love …. The beginning of a new love is all sunshine , happiness and good times … then you get married and it’s good for awhile , but it’s starts to get get gloomy and darker as one or both of them start falling out of love … thus the wedding is the beginning and since “ nothing last forever, even cold November Rain … once the dark skies move in and then the rain falls … the love is dying and her funeral symbolizes the actual “ Death” of their love as once again … “ Nothing last forever, even cold November Rain”
