Sing Your Song is a 2011 documentary that tells the story of Harry Belafonte. must see!!! I have seen this documentary five times. It's hard to believe what a fantastic job this man has achieved...Believe me, you will be grateful to me for this recommendation for the rest of your life

This is a great performance of something that would have been sung naturally every morning as workers handed their bananas to the dockworkers.

With Harry Belafonte's passing a few days ago I was looking for reactions to his music. What strikes me most listening to your reaction is the idea of him as a pop singer or Jamaican singer with famous recordings. I wasn't around in the 56' when the banana boat song was recorded and released, but understand it was a folk song - Jamaica had not yet created its own music genre. Harry was in a class of his own. Because of him I know folk music from around the world - Haiti, Mexico Ireland.. I know all of the words to Hava Nagila! Rest in peace Harry. Thank you for the music and all of your work on in the movement and all peoples of the world.

This style didn’t come from Jamaica. Calypso music originated in Trinidad and Tobago, along with the steel drums.

My purpose in sharing these last three Harry Belafonte videos was just as an FYI for you about the music foundations of the groundbreaking legend himself rather than hoping you’d like or want to replay the actual songs (as I usually hope with most of my other requests.)
