Home Free is the real deal. Adam Rupp is the beatboxer (they call him a freak of nature). He was doing the drums, harmonica and other sounds with his mouth. Chance, back left, was doing the mouth harp. Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range so he can sing super low but also sing high too. (Not kidding!). Austin (redhead) is the high tenor and can yodel. Rob (glasses) is a tenor and has a beautiful voice. Rob is not from Kentucky…that was just the lyrics of the song. The song is over 100 years old and has many covers. The boys sing covers but also write and sing their own music. 😍

Best a cappella group out there. With the best vocal percussionist, Adam Rupp. He can basically do anything you need. Every kind of drum, cymbals, wind, birds, insects, ocean waves, harmonica, jet planes, freakin' castanets. Can't get enough of him. Try their cover of the Doobie Brothers' Listen to the Music for a showcase of his talent.

Hi guys. You wondered about where the group is from. Adam Rupp (co-founder of the group, tenor, beat-boxer extraordinaire) is from Minnesota, as is Rob Lundquist (wearing overalls, main tenor and terrific whistler). The guy singing first in this video is Austin Brown (high tenor with an impressive vocal range) is from Georgia. Tim Foust is the bass singer (with a five octave range) is from southeast Texas. Adam Chance (baritone/bass, mouth harp, also called jaw harp) is from Alabama. All are talented almost beyond belief. Besides singing and producing other exquisite sounds, they write songs and do some of their own arrangements. Enjoy!

@@aMUSEingthoughts You'll notice one dude is different in their lineup: Chris Rupp, tenor & cofounder (brother to Adam Rupp, the beatboxer) left the group amicably to pursue other things about a year or two after they won. He was replaced by Adam Chance, baritone w/ deep bass range (bearded dude w/o glasses in this video), a buddy of theirs who was the bass of another group from the Sing Off. Chris has collaborated with some of the guys on a few things since then; everyone's still the best of friends, no bad blood. Chance has a deep enough bass range that he actually sings Avi Kaplan's part, trading off with Tim, when the guys perform "Ring of Fire" at their live shows.

Home Free is incredible. Everything they do is great. And although they are a Country A-cappela group, they can really sing all genres. There is no permanent lead singer. They really all have great voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp who started the group with his brother Chris Rupp. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo but also to start other projects with his sister, among others. Adam Rupp-Beatboxer but is actually an inhuman freaking good mouth artist. Tim Foust- Deep bass but also as a tenor and everything in between is possible. Austin Brown-High tenor with his great runs and high notes. Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice like velvet and so much soul. Adam Chance (back left, who is called Chance) - Baritone/ Bass, a voice so smooth and sexy. And who here also makes the Jaw harp sound. They look at every song whose voice suits it best. This is the best harmony, no egos, no rivalries, great personalities etc. Besides, they can all beatbox (see their live performance 9to5). .. This is one of the many covers they do in addition to various originals, and each one is just amazing. They just posted a video of their live performance of The Sea Shanty Medley on YT. Worth watching and listening

I saw them in Sept. 2022 in Spokane, WA. They are simply amazing! They do use stomps, claps, and loops to attain their sounds but they are all without instruments. When they do a song that includes an instrument, they will show you. We had so much fun! Glad you liked them!

Everything you hear, voice, instruments, beat boxing, etc. is all by the human voice. Even the harmonica. They blow me away. A lot of good songs mentioned here by others already. This was the first song I ever heard from Home Free & I was instantly hooked. It really showcases the talent of these 5 men (their tight harmonies & Tim Foust's bass & Adam Rupp's incredible beatboxing). They are my favorite a cappella group. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.

They have a warm, wonderful sense of humor and have made many comical videos. Check out Champagne on a Beer Budget, Hillbilly Bone and What Christmas Means To Me. The beat boxer Adam and bigger bearded guy with glasses, Rob, are both from my home state of Minnesota. They have always done ALL GENRES, just went "country" to get on the show "The Sing Off." Home Free was started in Minnesota in about 2001 by 3 Minnesota guys, one of whom was a brother to the beat boxer, Adam Rupp. Adam is the only one left from the original group.

I know you’ve listened to the group before but been awhile hope this helps answer your questions. This song is very old but best known from the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou . The group started in 2001 by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp They are the only country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they can honestly sing any genre and they do They won The Sing Off season 4 2013 that's where they became very popular. Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries and are very loyal to the guys. Adam Rupp: Beatboxer Extraordinaire -Tenor can make any sound imaginable (A whole drum kit, harmonica (his Nomonica we call it )plane flyovers, trains, castanets, bugs ,birds etc).Co founder from Mankato Minnesota. Rob Lundquist :Lead tenor(beard and glasses) very soulful voice and master whistler from Minneapolis,Minnesota Tim Foust :Bass (had long dark hair now short with grey ) 5+ octave range can go so low he blows speakers or sky high from Nederland,Texas Austin.Brown:High Tenor ( Long wavy hair ) voice of an angel from Tifton Georgia. Adam Chance(Aka Chance):Baritone/Bass deep, rich voice(Does the juice harp sound in Man Of Constant Sorrow) has short dark hair short beard from Baldwin County,Alabama.Replaced Chris Rupp ( Adams Brother and co founder in 2016) They have collaborated with many singers and legends Don McLean:American Pie Oak Ridge Boys:Elvira Kenny Rodgers:Children Go Where I Send Thee (Please watch the end message) Billy Gilman:One Voice Alabama:Christmas In Dixie Mark Wills:Don’t Laugh At Me ( important message at the end ) Lee Greenwood & US Airforce Band:God Bless The USA Brooke Eden:Delta Dawn Travis Collins & Amy Sheppard: The Horses Any many more. They have 3 amazing songwriters in the group Tim,Austin and Chance So they have a very large playlist of covers and Original songs Go Rest High On That Mountain End of the Road: Boyz 2 Men cover When A Loves A Woman Dive Bar Saints (Original) Helplessly Hoping (5 part harmony) Unchained Melody Listen To The Music Can’t Outrun You One Man Band Brothers In Arms Stargazer Trilogy( All Originals written by Austin) Give Me A Sign ( Chapter 1) Stargazer Lilies( Chapter 2) MR (Chapter 3) Skull And Bones ( original written by Chance for Ubisoft new video game Skull And Bones) Might As Well Be Me ( Original) Playing With Fire ( Original) Remember My Name (Original) Mayday(DON’T WATCH TILL YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE GROUP AND THEIR RANGES ) There's not a song that you pick from their 300+ catalog that is bad I haven't found one yet. Just a bit correction: they started singing all genres and "became" country due to a suggestion from a producer of the tv show The Sing Off. It's good to know this because it's kinda funny that Tim and Rob (you'll learn their names eventually) didn't want to sing in a country band (even though Tim is a Texan and had already recorded a solo country album) because they knew it would become a life commitment after the show. Anyway, they make all genres sound better with their amazing talent.

Check him out in Unchained Melody both Solo and with the band. and also in When a Man Loves a Woman with the band. Adam Chance or just Chance because it is easier with two Adams, is the baritone and sometimes bass when Tim Foust, the deep bass, is singing. Tim is from Texas. Tim has a 5 octave range. The song was first recorded around 1915, and at that time was called “The Goodbye Song or The Farewell Song “. It tells the story of a slave, bidding farewell to all he knows and loves, before running for freedom. There is one reference to riding that northern railroad that shows the meaning of the song. (Not actually a railroad, but an underground group that helped slaves reach free areas.)

Peter does some good colabs with the rest of the group also. These guys along with Voice Play one of their competitors on the Sing Off are among my favorite groups acapella OR the instrumentally backed ones. Pentatonix is another one from the Sing Off but I like these two better for some reason- not to say Pentatonix isn't good they are very good!

VoicePlay is awesome as well. The bass singer Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci has a very similar vocal range as Tim. He would probably say Tim is better. They are great friends. Geoff did some arranging on "Elvira" for Home Free and Oak Ridge Boys and Layne Stein (Voiceplay's beat boxer) helped Adam Rupp with arrangement on Butts Remix. VoicePLay does classic rock, Disney, musicals, movie, video game songs. This year has been their best creativewise IMO.

If you really wanna lose your minds over Tim's bass range, one of the first ones to listen to is their cover of "Ring of Fire," featuring Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix. Double basses! Avi & Tim trade back & forth, one singing the verse while the other sings a deeeeep bass line, then switching. Adam's beatboxing is stellar, too. MUST. LISTEN. WITH. HEADPHONES. And if they have bass assist, turn it on! It makes all the difference with the a capella groups!!!!

Actually they didn't really have an issue with their record company other than people were getting copyright strikes from doing reaction videos. But that's what all record companies do. Austin said that they tried to work something out regarding that, but they couldn't do it. You can't blame the record company for that. That's just how it is. He also said that the record company stayed out of their way and basically let them do whatever they wanted. They had complete creative control over their music. He also said something about they probably didn't know what to do with them anyway because they were a cappella. Austin said one of the main reasons they went independent was so people could do reaction videos and not get copyright strikes on their videos. So anything from their Dive Bar Saints album and after you will not get a copyright strike on. This song is from O' Brother Where Art Thou. If you haven't seen it, you much. One of the best movies ever. I suggest their cover of "End of the Road", if you haven't done it yet.

First off not a original, the songs at least a hundred years old. The beat boxer is Adam Rupp, the bass is Tim foust, the high tenor is Austen brown, the tenor (in overalls) is rob lundquist, the baritone is Adam chance or just Chance. The group originated in Minnesota but now only rob and Rupp are from Minnesota.

"winning" a recording contract from a company that then doesn't do anything for them, having to buy their way out of the contract, and going independent is something Home Free and Pentatonix have in common. I think record companies might not have a "real" category for them and can't figure out what to do, or could even be treating a capella artists as a "buy and bury" category so they don't have to deal with competition for their "mainstream" artists.

You mean a singing group won a singing competition where they got a record deal, only the record deal turned out to be a horrible one? That's just crazy, except that it pretty much defines every winner of every singing competition ever. Pentatonix ran into the same situation when they won the first season. And after it happened with Home Free, I think a lot of the fans started to turn on the show.

Sorry guys, but I actually cringe when anyone says that they are like pentatonix. No, no, no….nope. (This is my personal opinion) These guys collectively and individually absolutely the best out there. They run the gamut of the genres of music that they do….country, R&B, soul, gospel, do wop, even some opera. They are the only acapella group that I listen to.

@sobeastgaming Thank you for reading my reply. No ill feelings intended, but have tried to follow "Home Free" closely after my initial viewing of 'man of constant sorrow' a few years back. Pentatonix is a great a capella group! That's group, but Home Free is a great group AND, can individually show their superior talents in various solo performances and the others support them so flawlessly! Austin, Rob, Tim, Adam Rupp & Adam Chance and Chris Rupp-last two members over course of time have shown great talent, respectively. Over 2 decades and still going strong shows they are a group that adjusts with time and have the ability to find the "EXACT, CORRECT PRODUCTION CHOICES" to promote each song independently along with their multiple talents!! Am trying to pay homage to HOME FREE and my perceptions of this band!! Please keep reacting to songs, cause your reaction comments actually made me pay attention and 'feel some kind of way' ok?
