Being a kid of the 70s, teen of the 80s and 20s in the 90s… I feel truly blessed. Such great music to grow up with! New Wave and Punk in the 80s clubs was something to experience for sure. Good times!

We must be around the same age. It was an AMAZING time to grow up and I'd kill to go back and do it again. Lol. My parents liked 50s/60s doo-wop - early70s lite rock/country, my sister was Bob Seger, etc and brother was Led Zepplin, etc. I was the new wave/punk music girl. I grew up listening to, appreciating, and loving it all, and raised my girls on it all as well. As much as I like seeing the reactors discovering our music, their experience can never compare to ours. The excitement of a song coming on the radio for the first time, or the brand new music videos, or running out to buy the album or cassette, playing them over and over learning every word. We were truly very lucky.
@seasurfer10
@seasurfer10 Жыл бұрын
@@michelleheacock6326 you are so right. Back in the day when you bought an album you listened to every song. I never kept a journal when I was young but I can listen to a song or an album and it can take me right back to that place in time and I can remember where I was and what I going through in that particular time. Good or bad it was great and so diverse. Depending on your mood you could be listening to punk one day and soft rock or pop the next.

Howard Jones "Dream Into Action", "No One is to Blame", etc. You guys have to do a deep dive into his works. He was one of the first 80's one-man bands. He was a synth innovator and used technology to set up his musical sound. Along with being the vocalist, he played keyboards, drums, piano, and others.

Love HoJo and saw him in concert when I was stationed at Plattsburgh AFB, NY in '87. Amber, I think what you're referring to is how the '80s was a musical Renaissance. Digital instruments like synthesizers with hundreds of instrument voices, digital sampling and multi-track recording to layer, digital media like CDs, and MTV changed music like never before. Everything was experimental and fresh. The '80s were also called the 2nd British Invasion because of all the new groups from Great Britain coming over on tour and appearing on MTV. It was an AWESOME time to be a teenager.

I have to say, I've been watching this channel since almost the beginning and my most favorite videos have been the 80's ones because that was my time, 16 to 26 years old. My favorite was New Wave but I also listened to club, rap, hip hop, punk, and a bunch of other genres. I never really realized how diverse the music was until I watched your channel and you pointing out how wide-ranging the music was. So I wanted to THANK YOU for opening my eyes to how great the music I grew up with really was. Keep rocking! This was a favorite song too. 😊

Some of his other hits were/are "Things Can Only Get Better," (I think you'd probably like that one the best) "Like To Get To Know You Well," and "No One Is To Blame." If you like quirky voices, upbeat 80's tunes, and outrageous 80's styles, you should really check out the group Dead or Alive and their hit song "You Spin Me Round" (the official video). That'll put a smile on your face. lol. I also notice you haven't checked out Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Their song "Relax" played in dance clubs all the time. So glad you got around to listening to HoJo. This was from his first album when he was effectively a "one-man band" on stage; just him and a load of synths (plus an occasional visit from mime artist Jed Hoile). He later expanded to a full band set-up. I strongly suggest you check out "Things Can Only Get Better" from his second album. It features some REAL horns and I'm sure you'll love the vibe! He's still recording and touring to this day.

Mouth wateringly good those keyboard sounds flow like liquid gold and the lyrics flow so well with it Something about this song is incredible and not because it was his highest chart position of number 2 in his home country, there is something very special about this song always has been for me But all his others are absolutely class as well

Howard Jones! He was new wave/synth pop genius. He's from the UK. Even had the new wave/punk hair style. lol. He had many hit songs/videos during the '80s and early '90s. Many upbeat songs from him. Played at dance clubs and skating rinks. He reminded me of ABC, Thompson Twins, The Human League, Kajagoogoo, Book of Love, Pet Shop Boys, Tears for Fear, etc. Check out his other hit videos/songs from him like " Things Can Only Get Better", "New Song", "Everlasting Love", "Lift Me Up", etc.

For solo artists, Nik Kershaw is another UK name that ruled 80s' synth pop.

I recently saw Howard performing as a three-piece with Nick Beggs (of Kajagoogoo) on bass/Chapman-stick and Robin Boult on acoustic guitar. I love the way Howard's songs stand-up in these stripped-back formats.

Truly one of the best from the decade. I still have my vinyl and I love his voice. There are no bad songs. Dance floor in the clubs would be full to capacity when this song was played.

Hojo made me want ALL the synthesizers and drum machines. Now you guys have to watch the movie Better Off Dead with John Cusack for 80s experiences. PS, Hojo is fab on a boombox!

Howard Jones is a British musician, singer and songwriter. He is one of the defining figures of mid-'80s synth-pop and is associated with the 1980s Second British Invasion of the US. He had ten top 40 hit singles in the UK between 1983 and 1986; six of those 10 singles reached the top ten, including "What Is Love?", "New Song", and "Things Can Only Get Better". Jones had 15 top 40 hit singles between 1983 and 1992. The 1986 hit single "No One Is to Blame" reached No. 4 on the US charts. Four others placed in the US top 20. he only uses synthesizer for all of his music.

The album this song comes from, Human’s Lib, is excellent all the way through. You could pick any song and you’ll love it. Howard’s big album in the U.S. was the album just after this called Dream Into Action. It’s also very good. This is peak New Wave.

I remember this as a first, of sorts. It wasn't the first time a singer had heavy synth like this, but his use of synthesizers in this song was really unique. Another of his songs I've liked over the years is "The Prisoner." I think it still stands up well today. Interesting bit of trivia: When I first heard of him, his name was Howard Johnson. It was funny, because it reminded me of the hotel chain. Perhaps like with Prince, trademark lawyers caught up with him, because not too long after that, he changed his name to Howard Jones. Incidentally, it was a mystery to me at the time why Prince changed his name to a symbol. I thought he was doing it just to get attention. I learned many years later that a fruit company called Prince didn't like him using that name. So, rather than fight them in court, he changed his name.
